AIBU to feel fed up with my husband on holiday?

My god I need to vent! On holiday, OH just cannot come around in the mornings. I know it’s supposed to be a holiday for everyone but how much sleep does one person need? Technically the kids aren’t up so he doesn’t need to be but it’s hard to find a man attractive that needs 10 hours sleep every night and that sets an alarm to sleep through! He also would be upset to miss breakfast (I wouldn’t) so I’m making sure he’s up (I know I should leave him but I can’t stand the grumbling if I didn’t)

And if he tells me he’s sweating and red hot one more time so help me god! Constantly telling us what food he’s had like we can’t see.

I don’t like him, being this close has made that more obvious 😭

If he asks me if I’m having a nice time is it cruel to say no?

OP you can call it a dark sense of humour - but I'm willing to bet in real life you're a bit of a bully...

friedaklein · 22/08/2026 19:27

If it's 40 C, you should have gone out on your own before he woke up.
You are not joined at the hip.

BirthdayTrash · 22/08/2026 19:25

So you’ve gone somewhere where it’s too hot to do anything after dawn with someone you clearly despise but can only be bothered to complain about it rather than take any positive actions. Mind you, at home you spend the week seeing people you don’t want to see and just carry on who going about that as well.

You can’t be that old if you have young children (but I think you also have adult children). And I doubt you’re actually that popular given the way you post on here.

You can carry on being the modern day Sisyphus if you like of course…….. or you can woman up and sort your life out.

I can’t even believe you could be bothered to type that. Not changing a title that makes zero
difference to the post is not lazy and you know it. It could be my wife, husband, partner and it would still be the same issue.

It’s not though, because it’s far less hassle for you to do something about it than if you were married.

I was on his side until I read this. I was also catfished into falling for a man who supposedly loved exploring, excursions, activities both at home and on holiday.

As he has got older the is less keen to maintain the lie, barely leaves the house, and is happy to never leave the resort on holiday. I wish he had told me the truth rather than being someone he wasn't for 20 years, as it's a shock to adjust now.

I just do stuff without him at home and, on holiday, we balance between active and chilling. The difference is that you are saying you don't like him, rather than him just irritating you. Is it something you can talk about and get past or have you had enough and want out?

Still think that there is nothing wrong with 10hours sleep on holiday though. Just don't wake him and he will have to learn. If he doesn't, then he misses out.

What makes you think he was maintaining a lie for 20 years? Do you think that maybe he is just going though a normal process of ageing?
20 years ago I would have told you I was a party girl. Was it a lie? Not a bit. At 43 years old I am categorically not a party person. Not even close. Doesn't mean I would be lying to you at 23. People change, their needs change, their interests change, their energy levels, health and capacity change. If you can't accept this simple fact, you are really going to struggle in life.

FloofyKat · 22/08/2026 17:44

I would turn off the alarm as it clearly doesn't wake him up. Don't try waking him up for brekky. He is an adult. Do your own thing. Tell the kids to wake him when they get up and leave them to sort themselves out.

And when you get home. I'd be re-evaluating the marriage. Do you really wet to spend the rest of your life with someone you seem to despise? His sleeping 10 hours a night is really not the issue here. Although I love a good sleep in ….

VioletSeagull · 22/08/2026 17:44

Itsa10fromLen · 22/08/2026 09:39

I’m actually very popular, you just don’t like what I said to you so you can only resort to insulting me. I know what I am and I am happy with it.

I can't believe an adult wrote, "I'm actually very popular." 😂

It isn't lazy to sleep for 10 hours if you need that amount of sleep. If you're on holiday, why not sleep as long as you like, especially if you need to be up early for work most days? Is that the case for your husband?

But you've been quite upfront about not liking him. Are you planning on a divorce in the near future? I hope so, for his and the children's sake.

Itsa10fromLen · 22/08/2026 17:35

No

You sound awful. I am sleeping in until 9am every morning. My kids are asleep. My husband gets up and his alarm goes off at 815. I think hes selfish for waking me up. But he gets up.

I work my arse off at home and so do my kids, enough stress at home holidays are generally about relaxing.

Why did you come away with someone you clearly dislike

I'd just stop now OP. Each update makes you sound more and more unpleasant. Just divorce the guy and stop wanging on. You very obviously hate him, in addition to pretty much everyone who has commented. Although I am absolutely certain we'd love you to bits in real life (not).

Your poor kids.

No

I’ve been to the gym already. I don’t want to go for a walk lol. It’s 40 degrees!

Complaining about the heat when it's 40 degrees is reasonable. I'm a heat lover and I certainly commented negatively during this year's heatwave.

Sleeping in til 9.30 on holiday is completely normal. If your kids are also still asleep then why is it even an issue? I wake before 7am naturally (not proud, often quite annoyed by this) and I just potter around or go for a run or read a book until other people wake up.

Whaleandsnail6 · 22/08/2026 17:29

Some would think you lazy to still be asleep at 8am... Different people, different opinions.

Let him sleep till the kids wake up and you crack on with your morning in future.

No they wouldn’t at all, you’re reaching.

The only selfish one is you. Jesus let the man sleep. You sound absolutely awful calling your partner fat and lazy. Go on holiday by yourself

We wouldn’t be friends then. I like my friends with a dark sense of humour. No Disney fairytales here I’m afraid. You keep your pleasantness and I’ll keep my realism, none of your colleagues / friends / family said to you ‘I’m going to chuffing kill him when I get in!’ What a charmed life you lead. Hold on to your hubby, if he’s so good you’ve never felt murderous towards him he must be a catch, I’ll take his details.

I’ll bet you’re one of those people who boasts that you ‘tell it like it is’, aren’t you?

No matter how hard you try you are just coming over as unpleasant here, whatever the rights and wrongs of the situation.

I don’t know how long ago you started hating your husband (please don’t say ‘hubby’, it’s cringeworthy) but every day you’ve stayed after that is a betrayal. Tell him how much you hate him, leave the relationship. Even if it’s not the optimal time for you. You like honesty so much, it’s time to start practicing it a bit more.

Venting is one thing, viciousness is quite another.

My DH can piss me off but I'd never tell the world he's a fat lazy loser I'd like to murder.

Honestly this would drive me mad. Just been away for a week with friends. Me and DH were up early every day and got our kids out for mountain hikes. Friends didnt get up and out til hours later. That works for both our families but I couldn't be married to someone who lazed around for that long (unless health reasons)
You sound incompatible. And you dont seem to like him. I'd be looking to separate

Itsa10fromLen · 22/08/2026 16:14

Random321 · 22/08/2026 10:32

It's his holiday too!

People sleep when they need it.

If someone was trying to wake me up early on my holiday, it would do my head in.

Holidays are meant to be relaxing!

Your level of contempt for him is something he can't be unaware of. I'd sleep too to avoid you.

Is it so hard to believe that some people are lazy?

Why are so many people with partners they don't like or who don't like them? As far as sleeping 10 hours - maybe he has an underlying health condition or maybe he has a tiring job or maybe he has decided he wants to lie in on holiday. Whatever - communicate with the man OP, tell him to get himself up in time for breakfast, tell him you know what he ate, tell him everybody's hot, if things don't improve then figure out whether you want to stay married or not.

Hopefully an underlying health condition 😂 I’m a rotter I know 🤷🏻‍♀️

But you said the kids are asleep! So it doesn't matter that hes on holiday with small kids and asleep if they are too.

You think laying in is lazy. He doesn't

Although its funny you say hes lazy but you must also be asleep as you are moaning his alarm is waking you up?

His alarm woke me at 8am, I had to wake him at 10am snd he struggled to ‘come round.’ You won’t catch me out here, I’m not lying 😂

It really sounds like you should break up.

I love sleeping and I don't get enough sleep in term time (I'm on about 4.5 to 5 hours a night then...). My kids were just on holiday with their dad for 10 days and I'm off work. I went out once for the day to scatter my mum's ashes and other than that basically read and slept the whole time, other than a stroll each evening. At least 9/10 hours at night and a nap in the day (2 naps some days!). My DP didn't give a shit, despite me definitely being lazy. Incredibly lazy really. We're well suited - he's disabled and needs a lot of rest anyway and is rarely up to a proper day out. I work and care for him and the kids, but ANY time my kids are with their dad and I'm not working I'm basically asleep or lounging around the house. I firmly feel there's absolutely nothing wrong with doing absolutely fuck all! I like time in my head, not time doing things.

You'd obviously hate being in a relationship with either me or DP. You need someone busy and active and he needs someone butt lazy in their down time. There's nothing wrong with accepting a relationship is just not well suited and ending it. My exH and I were appallingly badly suited, but only really noticed a year or so after we married... We work well as friends and co-parents but explosively and vindictively as a relationship. It sounds like you've reached the end of the road.
