AIBU to feel fed up with my husband on holiday?

My god I need to vent! On holiday, OH just cannot come around in the mornings. I know it’s supposed to be a holiday for everyone but how much sleep does one person need? Technically the kids aren’t up so he doesn’t need to be but it’s hard to find a man attractive that needs 10 hours sleep every night and that sets an alarm to sleep through! He also would be upset to miss breakfast (I wouldn’t) so I’m making sure he’s up (I know I should leave him but I can’t stand the grumbling if I didn’t)

And if he tells me he’s sweating and red hot one more time so help me god! Constantly telling us what food he’s had like we can’t see.

I don’t like him, being this close has made that more obvious 😭

If he asks me if I’m having a nice time is it cruel to say no?

i recommend not going on holiday with someone you don’t like

Mooselander · 22/08/2026 09:39

YABVU. Sleep is incredibly important; if he’s sleeping then his body needs it. It isn’t laziness.

You don’t need to get him up for breakfast. If he’s upset then so be it, he’s upset.

But blimey, the kids aren’t even awake yet. Do you realise how horrible you sound?

Maybe he's staying in bed just to avoid you? I would.

I’m actually very popular, you just don’t like what I said to you so you can only resort to insulting me. I know what I am and I am happy with it.

Sounds likely.

If you don’t like him, you won’t like any of his behaviours either , at home or on holiday. I assume the close proximity of the holiday is making it a lot more obvious. Time to reassess your relationship.

As you like to be busy and have internet access, you could use the time he is sleeping in the morning to find your divorce lawyer, compile a list of all joint and separate financial accounts and policy numbers, apply for a mortgage if you will be buying him out of your home or finding alternative homes for you both. Wouldn't that be more productive and satisfying than grumbling on MN?

BunkBedsArePeopleShelves · 22/08/2026 09:37

Now he's fat too?

You're a fucking peach, aren't you?

Marroon · 22/08/2026 09:37

Fuck me reading comprehension skills need a little work. He is literally setting an alarm and sleeping through it. He would be upset to miss breakfast. He is sleeping 10+ hours. I don’t care if he’s on holiday, it’s lazy to sleep that long every night even on holiday. I don’t care if that offends you. If you’ve found someone that thinks you aren’t lazy for sleeping that long on holiday every night, hang onto them because it’s crazy.

Why aren’t you ranting about your children then who were also asleep?
Its actually your pov that’s crazy, you’re absolutely in the minority for being so over the top enraged about someone sleeping for 10 hours on holiday.

Itsa10fromLen · 22/08/2026 09:36

Marroon · 22/08/2026 08:59

That’s a you problem.
It’s a holiday, perhaps you would enjoy yourself more if you lightened up rather than forcing your routine on others.
He’s asleep in the morning when the children are also still asleep, the horror, not sleeping until 2pm.

It’s not. He’s fat and lazy. Anyone sleeping 10+ hours on holiday (whilst setting an alarm that wakes their non fat / non lazy partner up) is selfish.

I don't think his behaviours are awful, I think you just don't like him anymore. Holidays are very intense when you decide your companion is too annoying - stop focusing on the behaviours that are irritating you and decide what you want to do with your life going forward.

ChalkOutlines · 22/08/2026 09:30

"I don’t like him, being this close has made that more obvious 😭"

Probably shouldn't have married him then...

XMissPlacedX · 22/08/2026 09:27

LTB (just for the day) and go and do something fun

Duckiewasthefirstniceguy · 22/08/2026 09:26

it’s hard to find a man attractive that needs 10 hours sleep every night

That is one of the strangest things I’ve ever read.

Catza · 22/08/2026 09:26

Itsa10fromLen · 22/08/2026 08:54

I think it’s lazy 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sounds like a you problem. I guess your kids are "lazy" as well as they are also not awake...
People need different amounts of sleep. 10h a day won't be unusual for me. And I am categorically not lazy - I have full time job, running a small business on top of it and also have a diverse set of interests and hobbies. I am out and about all day and if my partner told me I was lazy just because I need more sleep than average (which was the case for me my entire life) I don't think I'd like him very much either.

doitwithlove · 22/08/2026 09:25

Some people sleep longer than others, I am that 9/10hrs sleep a night,(when I am not working) you may think it is lazy, no problem with that.

If he misses breakfast, that is on him. He has two choices if self catering he can cook himself something and tidy up the areas after eating.

If food is supplied by hotel, he will either have to wait till lunch or get something from the snack bar.

From reading the op there are more deep rooted situations to be looked at

HumptyDump · 22/08/2026 09:25

If you don’t like him you might as well divorce him.

Martymcfly24 · 22/08/2026 09:20

So the kids are allowed to sleep in but he's not.

backformoreofthesame · 22/08/2026 09:19

10 hrs - well you know

id be annoyed if he stayed up till 2 and then didn’t get up till 12 because I like to get going by lunch but we would communicate

itsgettingweird · 22/08/2026 09:17

Itsa10fromLen · 22/08/2026 08:54

I think it’s lazy 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes but that one is a you problem.

He is also an adult and gets to decide how much sleep he has.

If he doesn’t wake up for breakfast then that’s not a you problem and i wouldn’t allow him to make it so. I’d take a book and go and eat alone if the kids were also still asleep.

I think the biggest issue is you don’t like him. So you’ve decided to judge perfectly acceptable decisions to justify that.

ErlingHaalandsManBun · 22/08/2026 09:16

Well you admit you don't like him. Therefore everything he says and does is irritating you. Not entirely the guys fault here that you dislike him. Does he know this?

Do some things on your own? Why do you have to get up together and do everything together anyway? Especially if you don't even like him.

That way you will stop stressing and focusing on all the negatives about him and maybe even enjoy yourself a bit.

Once home I think you need to be honest with him in how you feel about him as he must feel he can't do anything right by you.

Then you can make the decision to split, which surely must be your only option, if you dislike the man you are married to.

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 22/08/2026 09:16

In a jokey way, think gavin and Stacey, I always tell my husband he’s boring me if he starts to repeat himself about something totally boring. You don’t sound like you want to joke though so you really need to do something about it. Life is too short to be lumbered with someone you tolerate. I adore my dh and the best part of my day, any day, is being with him. You need that.

ExtraOnions · 22/08/2026 09:15

Isn’t being lazy part of being on holiday ? I am
just heading home from 2 lazy weeks - I’m back at work Monday, and need to be up every morning for that, so holiday lie-in’s are great.

Luckily DH is on the same page

Wishimaywishimight · 22/08/2026 09:14

I would be very irritated if my holiday lie ins were being monitored and deemed "lazy".

Tell him you are going for breakfast at 9 or whatever. If he moans about missing breakfast just tell him to give it a rest, if he wants breakfast with you he needs to get up in time.
