AIBU - to ask you for your worst girl and boy names

Asking on behalf of DD who is expecting. What are in your view the worst girl and boy names. for me they are the made up ones like Nevaeh and Jayden

Never been a fan of Millie / Molly / Maisie. Cute names for a toddler, but not a grown woman.

I know an adult Molly, she's great.

My DS had a first name and two middle names that can be surnames as well. Luckily his actual surname is one I've never seen as a first name.

Any hyphenated girls name such as charli-mae or something similar like that

My mum always said to see how the name would look on a business card. Or if you are in court what was the judges name compared to the defendants

I do know a girl called Isis named after the Egyptian princess but this was around the time when Isis were 'big'.

Nevaeh is terrible. Always followed with ‘it’s heaven backwards’. We know, everyone bloody knows. It doesn’t make it better.

Normal names spelled ridiculously so they’re near enough impossible to get right and suggest their parents are a bit thick!
I dislike the names Wayne and Ian, I knew a paedo called Wayne and it’s all I think of.
I also really don’t like the name Theresa, not sure why just think it’s horrible and also Teri for a girl!

I like names such as Jesse for a boy or girl, older names like Rosa and Mabel and also Kit!

(Very lighthearted) This has managed to both insult me and please me at the same time! My name is Teresa and I’m known as Terri. On the other hand my son’s name is Kit 😂

I don't mind the full names, just dislike the nicknames as full names. But that's just my opinion, my best friend has used similar. I just said lovely and carried on cos it's not my choice when not my child

A 40 plus man called Barry is not odd. A 20 year old would be odd, and a young man in 25 years called Barry will be odder still.

I agree, my uncle is in his 60s and called Barry and I find that relatively normal. However one of my friends boyfriends (late 20s) is called Barry and I find it a little more… unusual.

I really don’t like Albie and Rudy. I actually despise Rudy. I just don’t get it. It just sounds like you’re calling the child rude.

Ah, all three of my DCs names are on this thread 😆.

The “worst” names for me are ones that sound either very wet or very harsh. We all have our own opinions and that’s fine.

I dislike surname ones, cutsey ones or names that are difficult to spell or spelled wrong in order to be 'unique'. If you want to call your child Chloe, spell it like that rather than Cloweey or something equally hideous.

Surnames used as first names are always a bit sad… Harrison, Taylor, etc
idk why but I think Hannah is a very depressing name though there’s not many of them nowadays. Dylan strikes me as a pretentious name, I hate Bob Dylan though so I have a negative association with it. Ruth is a very abrasive name, to me. I think we have enough Bella’s to start their own country, so I’d veto Bella for the foreseeable.

Jayden comes from Jadon which is literally in the Bible. All names are "made up", that's what language is.

I think this kind of ire should be saved for names that are actually unkind to the child. I know a teenage Anakin - A literal Star Wars villain, not even the hero or a likeable side-character!

My son's class was full of boys with those names. It sounded like a mediaeval village: the tiler, the cooper, the carter, the fletcher, the shepherd.....

I dislike the made up names and those with weird spellings as have already been described upthread. My personal favourites over the years have been Rainbow Dash and Franzwar. Shouldn't be allowed!

I've heard parents calling, numerous times, their unruly children. Temperance was bellowed constantly by her father in Pets at Home and Atlas with a full nappy and runny nose in a London museum by his mother.

Theres one of these threads regularly and it always get taken down as it descends into the inevitable scrap on racism.

I’d avoid any name trends as inevitably they date badly. The Jill’s of the 60’s are yesterdays Anna’s and the next generation of Otille.

When my grandma was at school there were 6 Susans in the class. No doubt named after Susan Haywood, USA actress.
