Rise in male posters…

loverrrr · 22/08/2026 08:02

Ive been on mumsnet about 6 years now & over the last 6 months or so Ive really noticed a massive rise in male posters, or at least posters who call out that they are male.
Has anyone else noticed this & does anyone have an opinion to discuss?
My opinion is probably that I would prefer this to be a female only site & I usually skip over any posters or responses that are obviously male. I understand I dont own the site though, and anyone is free to post!

It's hard to think about what kind of man does this...they know this is a women's forum, they know they have Dadsnet and other blokes forums. It's a control thing isn't it. Same as those blokes that invade our SS spaces.

I don’t think it’s like that at all. Why do some people have to relate everything back to trans issues on this website? There are plenty of men who just post looking for advice on parenting issues . Yeh you get the some weirdo incel type posts as well I’ve noticed but they are usually very quickly deleted , like all troll posts .

I'm always surprised how many posters on Mumsnet aren't parents, or wanting to be parents tbh. There was a thread the other day about why would you bother having children and many posters were saying they definitely didn't want children - a valid choice, but what are you doing on Mumsnet?

Edited

Not really me as I do want a child, but mumsnet is the only place for 30 something women on the Internet really. And classics are hilarious.

ImmortalSnowman · 22/08/2026 10:50

Have been around for a few years too, there are definitely a few men that I consider regular posters (using those usernames at least) and don't think their opinions are any more or less valid than any other poster. Normal seems accurate enough @summater

Have even had disagreements with a couple and manage to joke about something else at the same time without the world imploding.

Been accused of being male too @dinoderry, always for disagreeing with what I consider an unhinged opinion.

Don't think I have ever been on the sex board so that might be why, easy enough to spot the obvious trolls on the relationship board who just join to talk about sex but can't post on the board. There don't seem to be too many on FWR though.

Pretty sure it's not all men that post the most ridiculous threads on here. Have reported many that would appear to be women.

Caramalised · 22/08/2026 10:49

I forgot...PigletJohn. He's the only male that should be on Mumsnet.

rumplestiltskin88 · 22/08/2026 10:48

I don’t have an issue with men posting it’s a site for “parents” yet plenty of people who aren’t parents post and I don’t have an issue with that either .

I don’t mind at all, but I have been on MN for over twenty years and there was some rather unedifying flirting and silliness in the past when certain male posters turned up. You could see through the screen women preening and pushing, and the lucky men strutting around like the lone cockerel in a massive hen house.

TeenToTwenties · 22/08/2026 10:42

There are some very helpful male posters on some special interest boards, one in particular on school admissions springs to mind. It took me a long time to realise their sex as it isn't relevant to the advice they give.

Activelife · 22/08/2026 10:39

Iv`e not noticed it, but i have noticed the bullying towards men and boys on here as got worse.

The bullying in general is worse, ive been torn apart on here because i dont have kids so why would i be on here.
Along with my 2 stalkers ive had.
I once had a 3 day stalker sending me abuse because i am bi she was a teacher so she said.
List goes on.

Did you just come along to prove our point?

ours or yours?

summater · 22/08/2026 10:32

There are a few men on here that post quite normally,

dinoderry · 22/08/2026 10:29

I don’t think male posters are as easy to spot as people believe (unless they announce it themselves). I have been told I’m male before which is completely false.

grievingme · 22/08/2026 10:28

ConfessionsOfAChocoholic · 22/08/2026 10:22

Is that the only type of thread a man makes on Mumsnet? How would you know? If they don't announce their sex and they start a boring thread about the neighbour parking outside their house, how do you determine that they are male and so not worthy of your input?

Also, there is very much an attitude (from some) on mn that a woman can start a thread moaning her dh and get support, with no-one questioning on the background, or accusing her of not pulling her weight etc. Whereas if a man starts a thread complaining about his wife then he is simply trying to get a bunch of women to moan about her, and he plans to show her what other women think of her. His word is never trusted in the same way a woman's is by (again, some) readers.

Men come on here and read what woman think of them and then post to say ouch, there’s a lot of stuff online about woman by men which if I wanted to join the forums and read I’d probably read things I didn’t like to hear but then I wouldn’t read it knowing that and then argue about it.

LarkspurBlues · 22/08/2026 10:26

I have noticed yes and I don’t like it.

"By parents for parents" it litteraly says at the top of your screen.

Im a male ( how dare i! ) and a single parent and ive been here a while, its already a holier than thou left wing echo chamber in here, although thankfully decreasingly so, what a selfish idiotic frame of mind to say it should only be for women - its for the kids if anything.

Did you just come along to prove our point?

Indeed.

I’ve been on this site for 15 years now, and it’s always had non-parents as well as parents - and this includes dads.

I wonder if the ones complaining are mainly “newish” posters who come to Mumsnet expecting to find “only mums” or certainly “only women” and are shocked when a man says a few words?

It doesn’t bother me in the slightest and I’ve chatted to men both on and off threads in the past. Some do have an agenda here (sex board!) but there are many others who are genuine. Same as women I suppose!

Their threads are ridiculous, always follow the same script. My wife is distant, I miss how we used to feel so close….. She doesn’t want to have sex with me how can I make her?

I completely agree. I hate it that men post on here. But there's nothing we can do about it as Mumsnet says they are welcome.

I find some of them are OK, but some of them are obnoxious and talk down to women and mansplain quite a lot. Men cannot possibly know what it's like to be a woman, or what we have to suffer and go through - some of it at because of men!!! When you bash men, (often with good reason,) they dash onto the thread to tell women how 'wrong' they are.

Men have always intruded on woman’s spaces, there’s other topics on mumsnet that are intended for specific people such as different cultures/races etc and it even says so on the topic and that’s fine I wouldn’t post there
out of respect there’s also dadsnet so why isn’t there a woman’s corner?
I would love the site to have a woman’s only space or even a similar site just for woman who genuinely don’t want men’s input.
I don’t think I’ve ever made a thread hoping a man will come along soon.

Minasama · 22/08/2026 10:16

I found this odd as well. At the same time excluding people sits badly with me.
My husband would rather pull his own teeth out than engage with Mumsnet so it does make you wonder what kind of man is on here - maybe an intellectually curious one in fairness.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 22/08/2026 10:12

There are a lot of men, particularly on any threads about sex in relationships. It's really obvious.

I’ve been on mumsnet on and off for over 10 years and it was a problem back then too. Their threads are always annoying and I tend to skip them.

How do you know if they don’t say ?

I have mixed feelings. In my head Mumsnet is a women only site and I feel really comfortable with that. It’s always a surprise when I find out some posters are men. But there are some excellent male posters. Pigletjohn on anything to do with household repairs, prh47bridge on legal, BezMills (BezMark?) and SingleSexSpacesinSchools on FWR. So men in moderation. I don’t like the ones who storm into threads with ‘man’s perspective here’ but I agree they are best ignored. What does concern me is the threatening trans women who regularly come to FWR. One - now banned - had posted elsewhere threatening corrective rape with a splintery baseball bat. Those are the ones I would like to ban.

Others have several posts deleted for calling women names when they disagree with them.
