Anyone else sad summer is drawing to a close?

I loved the rain yesterday 😍 And am looking forward to some more ☔

Yeah I’ve had a nice summer too and although my ds is 17 now he’s really made the most of it. Lack of light and long dark evenings are what I dread about Winter - and the rain of course 🙁 it all makes me feel trapped.

I'm sad summer is nearly over. Although at times it's been too hot I've had a lovely time with my kids. Lots of time in the garden, paddling pool, water play, beach trips, picnics. I find Autumn and winter hard because of the cold and lack of light. I want to try and embrace as much as possible for the sake of my kids.

Had a shit day today. DS usually does archery on Saturday mornings but I turned his alarm off as it was torrential rain from 4am (which woke me up 😡) and I didn’t want to stand in that for 2 hours being cold and wet. I bloody hate autumn and winter.

I loved today. Garden got a lovely soaking. I got soggy on my dog walk and now my hair is curly. I love getting a bit soggy then having a warm shower when I get in. Dd and I did some baking. I am delighted the rain has come. Maybe I won't be in a few months when the fields are too drenched to walk in but for now I'll enjoy it

Hate it. Hate that I'm wet and the coats are wet and shoes and I can't dry them.

Problem is we won't have the right amount of rain, we will have too much and then all the farmers crops will wash away/flood.

Hate it today's been awful.

I am very torn, as ever. Ok the one hand my husband is home more in the winter months due to the nature of his job but on the other, I LOVE summer. I’ll miss the long days in the sunshine in the garden, at the beach, in the woods etc etc with my children terribly. My eldest starts school on Thursday and I’m not ready, I don’t think I’d ever be, I hate the thought of it. It’s been a really special summer for me, and I hope for the kids too, although they won’t remember it.

And sadly that’s the future for our weather I suspect, stroppy teenager forever 😱

Having watched the washing line from the confines of the house, my tumble dryer is having its moment again. Several moments.

Don’t be dense. It’s possible for the poster to understand we need rain but hate a day of continuous wet weather and gloom.

Ideally it should rain every night with nice bright days.

It’s been fairly shit. Mostly grey. Lots of rain. Only 5/6 decent days of weather. I’ve had my central heat in a bunch of days because it was cold.

That doesn’t mean I have to like it though, me hating it and it being needed can both be true.

I can’t wait for the schools to start as my garden is surrounded by (mostly nice) 7-10 year olds. Incessant screaming, trampolines both sides, footballs against the fence and in the garden. Bliss today with the heavy rain plus it’s much cooler. I like Autumn the best.

Christ, do you not understand how critical this rain is after months of drout? It's essential for the crops for a start or we won't have enough food...

Plus round here the kids went back to school- varied from school and the school year. No more screaming.

I’m so bummed out with today’s weather. The miserable rain, it’s an insight of what it to come and I hate it. I hate not being able to to do things because it’s wet. I’m in a foul mood today.

Too hot, too cold, too wet, too dry, too calm, too windy, too bright, too dark.

It's just in our nature I think to talk about all things weather isn't it? Anyway I'm off now to check how awful this El Nino thing is going to be. And for sure it will be hyped up no end so we enter the Winter terrified. Again.

It looks like “El Nino” is going to become the new gloomy buzzword 😩, and we’re going to hear it all year, 25 years after Bridget Jones turned it into something funny.

There's an edge to the mornings now. The squirrels are going bonkers. This time of year always reminds me of going to uni for the first time and of all the parties I went to that summer; walking home at daylight as it got cooler.

I agree. I love summer and spending so much time with my daughter. If it wasn't for having to earn a wage I'd homeschool her. I don't like the romanticisation of autumn by people who've seen too many pictures of hedgehogs knitting by candlelight in treehouses or American movies featuring sunny days with flame coloured leaves and cute jumpers. Not what we get- endless rain, a few destructive storms and relentless, depressing darkness.

Working term time is so lovely when your children are primary age. I used to love planning all the cheap / free activities and days out.
