AIBU to be angry that my husband is unconcerned about women’s safety?

Are you about to try and say that the men arriving in Europe from Afghanistan are leaving because they don't like how women are treated in their own country? Does that really make sense to you?

Creating awareness. There is men patrolling areas in the cities in Ireland. They would be referred to as far right but they’re parents who are sick of immigrants sitting in children’s park, using drugs, smoking crack, leering at women. They don’t approach anyone as there has been a few occasions if immigrants carrying knifes. It’s more to create a visual awareness.

Why do we assume that all the men in Afghanistan agree with the Taliban? I mean obviously some do, and we don’t necessarily know who. But to assume that those running away from the Taliban are somehow in agreement with every mad thing they’ve done is surely not reasonable?

The Afghan men you hear about are the ones who do awful things. Do you actually know any Afghan men in person?

I grew up in quite a well off area and I was always frightened of those Cockney/Essex geezer type men, assuming they’d be racist and violent. How ignorant of me, because now I know that’s not the case.

We all have prejudices, that’s normal, but it seems self harming to cement them based on horror stories.

How is it whataboutery to compare to Afghanistan, when many of the men arriving here are from Afghanistan? The same men who are abusing the women there. We can see clearly their attitude towards women and girls from the way they behave in their own country. I don't understand why you want that shutting down.
Would you prefer to discuss the way men treat women in Eritrea instead? Lots of men from there are now in the UK. They don't lose that attitude as soon as their feet touch British soil.

Sudan and Congo aren’t much kinder when it comes to women, there has been mass slaughter, rapes, barbarism, yet many who carried out these attacks are running from persecution not prosecution.
The jailbreak in the Congo where 100 women were raped before being burnt alive. The Christian community in Nigeria butchered by machete attacks, babies too, yes, I know, it’s not just Afghanistan and Iran. There are sooo many countries that human rights against women are violated, we’re bringing the issue to Western Europe.

In a population of 60 million people yes, it is rare.

Of course, so where has similar rights for women and girls who will then get the leaflet?

They’re not just coming from Afghanistan you know. so why keep comparing the UK to Afghanistan, genuinely would like to know your rationale on this?

Even if every single illegal immigrant was removed from the U.K. right now we would still have an issue with male violence and SA.

There needs to be a proactive approach, it’s sadly never going to be something that can be eradicated. Women’s safety could be massively improved if the police were funded better and had regular presence on the streets 24/7. Literally patrolling in circuits day and night.

Not really given the op was talking about men arriving and the handy leaflet to stop crime.

Sadly those crime stats aren’t always reliable as I have noticed many news articles state a man from Dublin accused of rape only to read on to find he required an Arabic interpreter.

That’s the thing, it’s increasingly on the rise sadly. I wish the government would take it more seriously. I feel like writing to my local MP about that lousy leaflet, absolutely ridiculous.

We do need to crack down on VAWG in its entirety. That includes educating boys in schools, tougher punishments for British nationals, AND also tackling immigration and perpetrators’ who clearly come from cultures that do not align with ours.

There needs to be a large task force dedicated to the spectrum that is the problem of VAWG….

I doubt the young lady in a London park stargazing with her date felt safe when the two Afghanistan men attacked them, holding a knife to his throat while they took turns raping her, they were suffocating her in the act, she truly believed she was going to die. Or previous to that the young mother who fell asleep on a park bench, he orally raped her, choking her with his penis until she went into cardiac arrest and died from oral rape, there is more, many many more.

And what actual difference would that make to women’s safety? Because the figures around rape and assault have largely remained constant. Statistically the effect is insignificant. And yet, we see over and over again, way more prominence being given to the “problem” of asylum seekers assaulting women than of it happening by British men. Why do you want to focus only on that? It’s like closing your bathroom window in a downpour when you have a fucking great hole in the roof.

It is absolutely not rare, that’s the point. It was a rare occurrence as were gang rapes being carried out in the public parks, beaches, roadsides, it is now a common occurrence.
I can think of at least 30 without using google who have been sexually assaulted by a stranger.

I really despise it when people compare the UK to Afghanistan 🙄 Whataboutery at its finest. Of course, we aren’t the same as Afghanistan but it still doesn’t make it right what goes on in our country, and it’s not wrong to want to try to improve that either.
