I don't like the names but it doesn't matter: why would anyone say that??? Did the "friend" want you to feel inadequate or anything? I just cull people like that from my life.

YABU. I don't understand why people get upset about people not liking certain names, especially if the parents choose a name they know is outlandish. If someone said they didn't like my name, I wouldn't take offense, I didn't like it myself growing up lol.

I was wondering this? To me Beyoncé, Taylor, Arianna, Lorde, Monroe? Show girl names. Is there a theme of ‘famous names’ when all 5 kids are together. I only ask as a few years ago there were multiple women at work on the same floor pregnant and due at the same time and when the birth announcements were shared! Separately, someone pointed out we had all the names of the lads from one direction! They would all be teenagers now! Office humour!

Life is too short. If this is all you have to worry about, then you are very lucky. I personally would not give it a second thought. The important thing is, your family like the children's names and that is all that matters xx

I think if you are going to boil over like a jam pot over trivial things like this - I'd rather you not be around children. My preferred was of dealing with things is to ignore the trivial stuff, use humour, etc. Really you'd be doing your self no good if you let a lot of trivial things bump your blood pressure up - it's really not worth it. I guess if your friends really get to know and like the kids it's never going to come up again and if they get on with them and like them then that's all that matters isn't it. I'm actually not keen on my grand daughters name but she's a great kid to be around and I love being with her so I don't care about the name.

I met a woman on holiday when DS1 was a baby. She was very posh, confident, glamorous- I was bedazzled by her. Her children were called Rafferty and Lola, this was 25 years ago.
Lola makes me think of her, or Charlie and Lola

oh god. I sometimes say this to people meaning it as a compliment i.e. its a glamorous, famous person type name. Now I'm worried I've been offending people for years unintentionally! Especially to people with those names which were the exact three I guessed when I read your post.

I think they are all lovely names - though my family is a little theatrical. It is a little odd for someone you've never met to make such a comment but I'm sure she didn't mean to offend you - probably thought she was being witty and clever. I expect, if she has any, her children and grandchildren don't have unusual names. My DD is called Aria - so that's pretty theatrical !

I would be annoyed if someone suggested my children were named after topless dancers with big feather headdresses. Because thats a rude and unfiltered thing to say out loud.

However if I had given them "stagename" type names like Fifi or Roxy then I would only have myself to blame I suppose. High School is a merciless place, far worse than a gaggle of awd biddies. Fifi could call herself Fiona, Kitty - Katherine, etc. Perhaps the parents were going for a Boho vibe. Oops.
