Airbnb guest let her dogs loose in my garden

Doesn't surprise me one iota. This sort of thing is commonplace in today's United Kingdom. The Entitled Ons . Who can do what they want, whenever and wherever they want.

As for Airbnbs. I think that they should be made illegal. Lots of scams, some seem like death traps.Little supervision or standards. Do local Authorities inspect them?

A magnet for Overseas Criminal Investors. Tax Dodgers heaven. Reduces the already chronic shortage of housing.

I absolutely hate air bnbs. We had to move out of our beautiful peaceful seaside town because of the amount that took over. The people who stay there don't care about the place or that people live nearby permanently.
They're ruining beautiful locations.

I've had parents parking in my driveway, primary school children picnicking in my front garden - there's a hedge and a gate - and dog owners letting their dogs run about my back garden.

The same happens at one of the secondary schools here. Dog walkers have taken to FB to complain about being told to move on.

What is it about some dog owners? We have a neighbour who's dog gets out every week. Their excuse is that it keeps finding gaps in their fence. We all complain. It even made it's way into our kitchen once, much to the disgust of our cats.

Sorry - but very unfair 'general' comment - yes, some are, but responsible dog owners aren't - I would never ever allow my dog to just wander onto private property, & I do comply with any 'dog restriction' orders / bylaws & would be as angry as the OP if someone else did allow their random dog to do this on my property. (Plus report to Airb&B as well as taking the issue up with the owners). Maybe mention insurance issues as well - eg what if children were in the garden etc. with this apparently 'not under control' dog?

With her coming out immediately without fuss when challenged by your (slightly ineffectual!) DH if the woman was in a bit of a trance and not really concentrating when she saw the opening without a gate she could have very possibly naively assumed it was a sort of communal area, maybe even for dog walking? 🙄
After viewing the diagram I do find it hard to believe that it would have happened if she had given it any serious cognitive consideration and obviously these sort of things do happen but she could of course just be an entitled CF?! 😡

A random dog wandered into my garden to be surprised by my small but very feisty cat. She swiped the dog right on the soft bit of his nose .The dog was yelping and there was quite a bit of blood. To be fair the owner was very apologetic and accepted it was the cat’s territory.

My daughter went to an Airbnb recently, there was a little rule book, about not annoying the neighbours, no fag butts on driveway, not dogs allowed off lead etc.
I suggest you talk to the owner of the property about putting something similar in place 🙂

I’m guessing that the Airbnb owner has a rule about picking up dog poo in the back garden and the entitled muppet couldn’t be bothered to comply so thought she’d let the dog shit on someone’s else’s garden.

I’m sorry that was your experience. I have to say, though, not everyone who stays in airbnbs is like this. DP and I have stayed in many, and we are responsible and respectful and don’t do anything loud or antisocial. I’m sure we’re not the only ones.

Have you found the listing for the house? I wonder if the owner suggested there was a nearby park or somewhere where her dogs could roam free? by the sounds of things though, he feels entitled because he is renting the air bnb. This is why I hate them in residential areas, why should residents put up with random people every week and their weird behaviour. Is there a way to block your garden off from the drive etc? I would be doing so.

I despise them. Whole generations can't find a house where they grew up thanks to air bnbs too. The people who own them in my area are usually wealthy and own a lot of them, and don't give a crap about young people affording a house.

Dog owners are getting more and more selfish these last few years. I clean holiday lets, and middle aged 'respectable' retired couples are usually the skankiest entitled arseholes we have to deal with. Even though they're not supposed to let they're greasy ungroomed sweaty little dogs upstairs they usually let then destroy the beds, cover them with hair, dribbles, piss.. I seriously have begun to detest dog owners now. My boss, and a few other holiday let owners have now started banning dogs altogether.

Dog lady was being a cheeky twunt, especially as they have their own garden.

There are two types of dog owners. There are the normal, respectable people and there are DogPeople. Over the last 20 years or so, a huge percentage of dog owners have turned into, entitled, thoughtless arseholes. They think hairy arsed, grown adult animals are their children. They're all wankers.

Can you not get a scent or a light chemical or something that repels animals from your garden? ( and one for Muppets as well)

They used to say that if you have mice you don"t need to buy a cat, you can borrow a cat from the neighbour for a couple of hours and the scent supposedly repels mice for months? Maybe you could borrow a Lion from the local zoo and get it to crap in your garden a couple of times, surely that would scare off most dogs?

I have long found "respectable" middle aged people to be a pain in the arse. 50 something men are the ones who always complain about things and it's also that demographic who walk along hand in hand and won't move over to give you space on a pavement unless you force the issue eg by stopping and forcing them to go round you. It isn't remotely surprising to me that they're the demographic most likely to be annoying guests too.

I walked out into my back garden one day to see 5 kids sunbathing in it!
I was flabbergasted!
We live in a semi detached on a housing estate
At the time we had no gate between our driveway and garden. Plus the garden is in 2 parts, one on level with the back of the house and the other is dropped down, the dropped down bit has a low wall separating it from the estate at the back of ours.
These kids either walked down our driveway past our cars or hopped over the wall. Either way it is very obvious it's our garden!
I've also been sunbathing in my hammock and opened my eyes to see a hold stood next to me staring at me! He'd come to get a ball but hadn't shouted out before walking into the garden so scared me to death!
Other fun visitors were people who walked their dogs on the estate at the back and let their dogs scramble over the wall for a poo in our garden...
Needless to say we now have a gate, a high fence at the back and have had no more visitors
