To ask why SHEIN clothes have increased in price?

Thanks, I tried to have a look, but I don't use Instagram. But - I don't think this has happened over the past 2 years. I remember people regularly buying absolute rubbish quality/fake clothing in markets 30 years ago.

I think the real issues started at least 10-15 years ago with the high street decline. There was suddenly a lot less choice, and the shops that were left started reducing standards significantly.

Places like M&S and Next, who used to be decent quality are now very variable, and no better than Primark, New Look, etc, who used to be lower end. Everyone is producing the lowest quality they can get away with. Even the people charging a premium. IMO, the issue is that the majority of people just don't have the spare cash to pay what M&S would have to charge for a better quality pair of jeans. And they have to buy new jeans - because the £30 pair they bought in spring have worn a hole in the crotch.

Most people are not buying wear-once items from Boohoo. And paying £120 instead of £30 for a 100% acrylic jumper made in Indonesia is not a superior position.

Oh this is thrown out all the time. Shein as not created to provide clothing to people who are poor and on a budget.
People who buy from Shein are spending aprox 300e a month on clothing, they are not people who are poor or on a budget, they are people earning good money with disposable income and this who Shein is aimed at
People who are genially poor and on a budget, wear clothes to death repair when need and source clothing from charity shops vinted etc
Because they don't have bricks and mortar shops etc like Zara H&M Primark, the also dont have to comply with trading standards for what chemicals factory standards etc. So what your buying is also so dangerous for you. If your dressing your children in Shein clothing please please stop now

Apologies i should have said 20 years not 2 years, it has started years ago but has accelerated since 2000 big time Shien and Temu are new
Places like M&s ect did have good quality but then new players came onto the market like zara like bohoo etc, consumers were moving to them and they decided instead of standing out they followed their same processes
Yes there are high end retailers also making poor quality nad this is something Andrea Chong does on her mindful Monday series, she goes into a shop, any shop from Primark to the designer ones and shows people the labels shows them the construction of sewing, hole buttons pockets how it fits etc, its eye opening and this is what we need to look at before price

Bohoo is shocking , they have ruined all the labels they took over inclduing karen millen coast oasis etc

Shipping costs. It takes far longer to ship from China and Asia around the bottom of Africa than to cut into the Mediterranean via the Middle East. Plus fuel costs for shipping and for factory machinery and lighting and so on, and raw materials for synthetic fabrics, have rocketed.

Those of you that are all snooty and holier than thou about Shein, you do realise that the majority of high street/online retailers in the UK use the same suppliers?

They don't use mythical ethical suppliers where the clothes are made on magical clouds by golden unicorns paid £100 per hour!

That's not actually true. Shein, for example, has it's own factories in Guangzhou that exclusively supply Shein. Factories which routinely break Chinese labour laws.

It's an easy cop-out to say that Shein/Temu etc are no worse than other more credible retailers, but it's not actually true. And it's still pretty easy to shop in places that don't routinely exploit desperate people.

It's also pretty wild to describe people on a parenting forum who object to goods being made by forced child labour as "snooty" and "holier than thou". I mean, come on.

If you scroll back and read the whole thread you will see that this is not true - There is proof actual proof Shein suppliers and high street suppliers are not the same. This is why France are imposing this levy and many more will follow suit.
Everyone has access to google, easy to find other websites that are better than Shein.

Those of us who are snooty about Shein have enough brain cells to rub together and work out which retailers match our values, and know that not all retailers happily use child Labour and modern day slavery practices. There is always an alternative. HTH.

I’ve never understood how people can justify forced child labour. Would they be fine if it was their children?
