Serco Employee Charged With Giving Out Asylum Accommodation Adresses.

A Serco employee has been charged over the recent unrest in Thetford, Norfolk where groups gathered to protest outside houses believed to be housing undocumented migrants.

So he has been charged with Misconduct in a Public Office. But held in custody for misconduct? Is this not a step too far? In what other profession would you expect to be held in custody for misconduct, rather than suspended pending an internal investigation? Even in a public office this seems rather unusual?

Three police officers are pictured standing in a road. They are wearing yellow vests and all have caps on

Man charged with sharing asylum seeker addresses in Thetford

The 62-year-old man is remanded in custody and will appear at Norwich Crown Court on 14 September.

"Officers identified additional evidence which undermined the case against Mr Jobson and the CPS was informed of these developments."

It added that "detectives continue to investigate how information was shared online which led to a number of addresses being targeted".

The CPS found there wasn't enough evidence to charge him, so he has been released, as he should be.

If there had been enough evidence for the CPS to prosecute, then it would have been right and proper to remand him.

Not sure what your point is? The justice system has operated exactly as it should.

Clearly not, the BBC link up thread says;

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has apologised to a man who remained in prison despite charges against him being dropped.

He is likely entitled to compensation.

Oh look. Released without charge. Yeah, I’ll wait……

Genuinely though, that has nothing to do with your OP.

Your OP was around the severity of punishment for misconduct in a public office, which as most people know has always been high - eg prison officers in relationships with inmates.

Wait for what? You really don't seem to have a clue how that justice system works at all, based on this thread.

Sorry to disappoint you. Some of us have lives outside of Mumsnet. Maybe give that a go? 😉

Lol! Worst come back ever! You start a thread on Mumsnet and then mock the people responding by implying that they have no lives outside Mumsnet unlike you! I'm surprised that you even have time to post on here. Don't you have a rabble to rouse?

pointythings · 19/08/2026 07:20

concertinacornflake · 18/08/2026 22:43

It might if the person revealing it deliberately gave it to people who then staged a protest that required police intervention.

Or, for instance, if you were fleeing an abuser or stalker, and someone in the police gave them your address. Which is a pretty good analogy right there.

But essentially you are saying it's OK to give racist thugs the address of vulnerable asylum seekers so they can go and terrorise those people. Says all we need to know about you, doesn't it?

UncannyFanny · 18/08/2026 22:37

Like Rhiannon Whyte you mean?

The man who committed that murder is in prison. Please do explain how it is related to facilitating vigilantism against numerous completely different people.

Very revealing however, @UncannyFanny

I don't think I'd want your life, given it seems to either be one of supporting others who stir up racial tension, or attempting to do it yourself with goady opening posts and zero meaningful follow up. I'm not sure which of those two is worse really.

👏 👏 👏

Not even when a mob shows up and damages your house? You would be fine with that happening?

The OP would be fine with it, as long as the people responsible only got an internal suspension at work of course, wouldn't want it to go any further than that - it would be a step too far!

Revealing my address wouldn’t land anyone in custody.

It would be if the result was that a mob tried to burn down your house.

JaniceBattersby · 18/08/2026 22:56

What an appalling abuse of his. I’m glad dangerous people like him are held in custody ahead of trial. The consequences of his actions could have been catastrophic.

ColdAsAWitches · 18/08/2026 22:44

Now that you're back, can you give a reason why the employee might have leaked immigrants addresses that don't involve harassing or intimidating them? If you think this was only a minor leak that should be dealt with internally, you must have believe that there must have been no malice intended. So try to justify why this guy should be dealt with leniently.

It's a line from a film, but seems apposite.

It is a matter of time until someone gets killed in a vigilante attack and anyone promoting/facilitating such needs the full force of the law. I know there is the popular idea that it is only young men in such accommodation but there are children too.

How would you feel if one of them dies because of the actions of someone like this man, @UncannyFanny ?

Like Rhiannon Whyte you mean?

What a terrible and shitty thing to do. I think his actions resulted in violence held him being held in custody. Is that because he broke a law in disclosing this information or how he accessed it?

Edit: sorry read if he has been charged with an offence then he did break the law and custody seems reasonable.
