£610 a week pension demand is insane

Most well kept villages have regular litter picks. You mustn’t live somewhere with much in the way of social cohesion if you’ve never come across one.

But lots don't contribute in other ways either. My experiences are that it's the ones who are working and paying taxes are the same ones that are also doing voluntary work, etc.

When our village have their regular "litter pick", the vast majority are part time/semi retired workers, the unemployed and fully retired are nowhere to be seen. Same with our local town's heritage centre - nearly everyone volunteering for them has some kind of part time job elsewhere.

Oh what a shock: your proposal is that if a correction needs to be made (the data posted already having established that it’s long overdue already and crippling the country) it should happen in such a way that it affects future generations in retirement and not those already retired.

So, just to be clear, those who haven’t paid anywhere near enough tax as a cohort to fund the demands they are making on the state should continue to get welfare that many do not need and which the cohort has not funded.

And those already funding this even though their own living standards are lower should have any entitlement to state pension for their cohort reduced further, to keep you all in the style you’ve become accustomed to due to the largesse to your generation that you’ve voted for continually, at everyone else’s expense.

Is that right?

So basically screw any chance of future prosperity for the young adults and children as long as the pensioners’ demands are met.

The attitudes expressed by many pensioners on this thread, their complete refusal to look at or respond to any of the data, and the spiteful hostility expressed to anybody who challenges their entitled attitudes, are the precise reasons why the country is now spending £120bn per year just on the interest on the debt they ran up and why we cannot fund infrastructure, education, defence or anything else properly. Obviously NAPALT, but the thread demonstrates that far, far too many of them are, sadly.

Every previous generation in history, across all countries whose history I am familiar with as well as our own, has always had the attitude that they want the next generation to do better than they did. Sadly, this particular generation had the deadly combination in a democracy of being very large in numbers and also having a majority mindset of being utterly selfish and entitled, and that is the primary reason why UK living standards have fallen off a cliff compared to those in what used to be our comparator countries and will continue to decline until their stranglehold on the UK is released either by some mass epiphany (unlikely) or by natural causes in the course of time.

Let’s just hope that by then it’s not too late to reverse the ongoing decline in living standards they have instigated and then continually re-enforced for everyone but themselves. I fear it might be irreversible by then.

Like I said, I’ve done my time and paid far more than my fair share of tax already, so I’m retiring.

That would be ironically amusing if they did vote to cut the state pension because then it won’t even cover their weekly shop by the time ‘the young’ are grey haired and dreaming of stopping work before they drop dead.

Oh no. Apparently if you saved and paid into workplace pensions you’re greedy for claiming the “welfare” that you worked for 43 years paying tax and NI for.

I think they’d rather we all disappeared before we hit state pension age.

Those receiving a pension currently are getting what someone else once calculated would be affordable. If that turned out through circumstances to be wrong, then correction needs to be made, but that’d have to be over a long term, and how and when that’d be, who’d have any idea.
The idea that I did wrong by working hard, investing in pensions, saving by doing without I find incomprehensible.
So could the militant let me know just we can truly be to blame?

I would say most pensioners are finding life tough, food costs are a fortune, cost of living is a big part..

Selfish old me has just ordered flowers for my DIL because her Papa died. I really shouldn't use my "welfare" for frivolous purposes like this.

Well, this overpaid pensioner is signing off, you'll be glad to know - off on holiday tomorrow ( not a cruise, a staycation ).
I'm having a holiday from looking after grandchildren 40 hours a week, helping out our kids with nursery costs free of charge, because that's what grandparents do.

I hope to hell my kids don't begrude me my pension.

It cost Theresa May her majority. People just didn't want to hear it so almost in let a raging communist who never missed a chance to befriend Britain's enemies, through the back door.

Ditto, me too. We've had too many soft politicians unable/unwilling to tackle the unpopular, but necessary changes we need. Especially those rolling over so they don't risk the "grey vote".
