To think Count Binface is doing a great job in the Clacton by-election?

Count down to Bin Day!

Count Binface has been out bigging-up Clacton and drawing attention to its potential.

It’s a really positive campaign.

I don’t think he’ll win but I’d love it if he did. I think he’d be brilliant.

And if he doesn’t, I think other candidates could learn a lot from his approach.

All I know is that NF has increased the volume of my paper recycling recently, the amount of crap that’s been posted through my door is ridiculous.

TBH, I am probably relieved that the main parties didn’t field candidates. It gave me a chance to register what, for me, was a protest vote. Because I feel like a lost voter - mostly a centrist. What I’m definitely not is a supporter of any of the rhetoric that comes out of the Reform party. If another by-election is triggered following the conclusion of the inquiry, I really don’t know how I’ll vote!

A little less posting and a little more reading would help you.

Point out any error in my post.

The figures are taken from the BBC News website, as are the details of those who went to support Binface.

Tricky isn't it when the facts don't support your agenda @ClarkeandNewman and you have to resort to vagueness.

By the way, are you in charge about how many times a poster can post?

Are you on Mumsnet staff or just someone who would be something if they could...a little like Binface in fact!

Well if you think that the people of Clacton deserve someone who will turn up and make a difference then why on earth didn't the Labour and Conservative parties field sensible candidates with attractive policies and try to win?

They didn't because they both (justifiably) felt that they would lose to reform.

and @BIossomtoes you have no idea how ridiculous you sound with the "drinking Kool aid" remark. We live in a democracy and I have to tell you that people are allowed to think differently from you.

So you admit Farage can’t make real change and other parties could if they stood?

Well they decided not to. As is their choice. The same way Reform has decided not to stand in other by elections in the last. As is their right and choice.

The other parties wanted Farage to win AFAIK as they want the investigation to continue. For them it’s a long game.

Plus Labour have been too busy actually lowering immigration.

LuckyHazelFox · 14/08/2026 09:37

piscofrisco · 14/08/2026 07:36

I’m not embarrassed in the slightest. I would be if I’d voted for Farage.

You'd be embarrassed at your democratic choice? That explains a lot.

BIossomtoes · 14/08/2026 09:32

Binface got more than a quarter of the vote. 🤷‍♀️

I’d like to know what he has done for the people of Clacton so far

Sweet FA as far as I can see - I’m in his constituency.

They didn't stand because they refused to take part in Farage's circus. I hope you know that and your naivety is faux. The alternative would be tragic.

Just remember Nigel Farage has won a greater share of the vote than Burnham did in his by-election (both polls engineered for political expediency). All the main parties have achieved by being too frightened to stand against him is hand him a bigger majority.

And maybe we should remember that people are innocent until found guilty?. He's being investigated. Save your criticism until we actually know what he's done.

Therefore, please take note that CBF increased his number of votes by around 10,000% - he got 95 votes in the Makerfield by-election. And this was with the longest ballot paper in history - it was ridiculous opening that recently (I do postal voting).

NF created this mess and the ensuing public scrutiny and comment. If he’s so sure of his position, then why not just let the investigation continue and conclude? Instead, he’s created more scrutiny from more people and wasted tax payers money.

To all of the NF supporters on this thread - would you vote for him to be your local MP? If so, why? He’s definitely more “Establishment” than CBF, right down to the salmon-coloured trousers he wore yesterday - the staple out of office attire of plenty of city boys.

"Humilated."..hmmmm!

I'm sure Burnham wishes he had won 63.3%, the figure Farage won.

Just to remind you, Burnham won 53% of the Makerfield vote.

Rather than feeling humiliated, Burnham, felt that that was enough of a mandate to automatically become PM.

Yes, I know there will be a lot of "What If the Labour and Conservative had stood."

Well, the thing about "What ifs" is that we will never know.

What if Burnham had immediately called a General Election, as many thought he should by the way.

By the way, it's a moot point that Labour didn't stand-I think most people knew Binface was a Labour Candidate in all but name,

That was one of the reasons he only won 26%, despite having the backing of many Labour Luvvies, including Alastair Campbell, Andy Burnham and what probably sank him, Carol Vorderman!

A little less posting and a little more reading would help you.

He doesn’t turn up for constituency meetings - I’m not surprised he didn’t turn up to stand next to a bin who got nearly half the number of votes as he did.

He’s hiding because he’s humiliated.

He couldn’t win this election even by winning and that’s why it was so delicious from the start.

Called because he thought the investigation into his money would stop.

Except it was only postponed until the by election.

He won - it starts again.

He lost - it’s to a bin!

He won - it’s to a bin

His party and advisors are so dim they don’t even realise if he won they’d restart the investigation.

The “man of the people who will save you money” has cost the tax payer £350k for a by election that achieved NOTHING.

The people Of Clacton DO deserve someone who will make a difference for them. There are some real areas of extreme socio economic deprivation.

But someone who doesn’t ever visit and make real change on the ground and just tells them “it’ll all be better when we stop the small boats” isn’t someone who affecting REAL change.

I have a Reform MP. I don't like her or the party. But at least she is here and making changes which she feels are for the greater good even if I don’t agree with a lot of her rhetoric.

He literally swamped the town in paid for propaganda, that others couldn’t afford.

Uricon2 · 14/08/2026 09:25

Shouldn't be forgotten that Reform threw all the manpower and resources they could at this, including pulling people off the campaign for Manchester Mayor, to ensure the Great and Ever Popular Leader won. Slightly different level of resourcing to an Independent with a bunch of £3 donations and no real team.

Interesting and encouraging that a couple of the local Independents got more than a handful of votes.

We know that he was given £5 million within the twelve months before the 2024 election which he didn't declare, contrary to parliamentary rules. We know that after receiving the money, he changed his mind about standing as an MP. Do you suggest we pretend that didn't happen?

One of his manifesto pledges was to fill the potholes with copies of Labour’s manifesto.

what a bellend. He beat a man dressed as a bin, in a pointless by-election

What a leader. What a statesman 🤣🤣🤣🤣

On a higher turnout, against all the main parties. You’re really struggling if you seriously think the two are comparable.

There are some crazy people out there who kill MPs. You think it's a laughing matter after Ann's brutal murder. How do you know what threat he faces on a daily basis. None of you give a fuck about Clacton, it's just another outlet for you to show your intolerance. How dare Clacton not vote for a candidate YOU thought they should.

What was his excuse for not showing up in Clacton before Widdecombe's murder?

Why did he need £5m?

Yup.

He did get a greater share of the vote.

But Andy Burnham's main competitor wasn't a bin. And he was standing against all the main parties. Farage was standing against none of the main parties.

So you can twist it that way if you like, but it is disingenuous to suggest that it is in any way comparable.

The main parties were quite happy to save their breath and let him face the music.

Count Binface did us all a great service by keeping the attention on Farage’s exercise in vanity and petulance.

The only laughing stock is the 87 per cent of you who seriously thought the comedy candidate would win. You even thought a Punch and Judy show arguing the toss about the cost of ice cream was a good idea. What happened to the grown ups being back in charge? Oh well, another result for you to scratch your head about, until the next one.

Your comprehension is lacking.

The 87% vote was for Count Binface 'doing a great job' not 'going to win'.

This is a quote from the opening post 'I don’t think he’ll win'...'

BIossomtoes · 14/08/2026 09:13

On a much smaller turnout with no serious competition. Are you really so deluded that you believe the motivation of the main parties in not standing was fear? You really have drunk the Reform Koolaid.
