Has anyone else seen the "Butt Face Chester Cheeks" toy at Smyths? Surely this isn't right for 4-year-olds?!

Hi everyone,
I recently saw an Instagram clip talking about a controversial new toy, and I honestly couldn't believe it was real. I decided to check my local Smyths to see if it was actually on sale here in the UK, and to my absolute horror, it was right there on the shelves.
The toy is called "Butt Face: Chester Cheeks" (by Goliath Games) and it is aimed at children aged 4 and up.
I’ve added some pictures below, but essentially, it’s a plastic face shaped like a pair of naked buttocks, and the whole premise of the toy involves children squeezing and spreading the cheeks.
Am I being completely unreasonable, or is this incredibly inappropriate for early years? Children learn through play, and at age 4, they are just starting to grasp vital concepts like body safety, personal boundaries, and consent. Normalising this kind of interaction under the guise of "cheeky humour" feels entirely wrong and confusing for toddlers.
I know that major Australian retailers like Big W have already pulled this toy from their shelves after a massive backlash from parents and child safety experts, yet Smyths (and a few other UK retailers) are still selling it.
I've already sent a formal complaint to Smyths customer service asking them to review it. Has anyone else spotted this, or does anyone else feel the same way? If you want to complain too, you can contact them through the Smyths Toys Support Portal.
Would love to hear your thoughts.

It's not a bum though, it's a "butt face".

Because when an adult then touches their bum and tells them they’re just playing like with the toy they’ll think it’s normal. Rather than assault.

Only if parents don't teach their kids the difference between, y'know, a plastic toy and real life.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · Yesterday 17:23

Do the people who think it's going to encourage inappropriate touching also think Whack-a-mole encourages kids to beat wildlife?

as a parent I tend to, well, talk to my children?

More of the earth’s precious resources going on a 5 min wonder and then straight to landfill. 😔

Does it fart when you squeeze the cheeks? If not I would find it very disappointing.

It’s your lucky day: “Press down on the head for hilarious jiggle wiggles and fart tunes.”

I don't see the issue? I mean it's tacky. And ugly.

But children find bums funny. Obviously they don't see them in a sexual way.
Bums, farts, poo etc are amusing to small kids. It's part of their development and understanding of the human body. In an age appropriate way.

Not saying I like this toy. But I can't see how it could be harmful.

I mean, it's not tasteful but 4 year old boys aren't generally into tasteful things 😂

Boomer55 · Yesterday 16:38

Tacky, but kids of a certain age will love them.

"But children find bums funny."

I find bums funny and I'm a lot older than 7.

katmarie · Yesterday 15:03

My 8yo saw it and wanted it, thought it was hilarious. I said a firm no way, unfunny and likely to be very irritating. But 8yo a do thing bums are hilarious, so I can see where this has come from.

It's distasteful but I am pretty sure by 7-year-old would desperately want it and find it hilarious if he knew it existed

This is exactly what I thought when I saw it 😬🤣

Also, if I'm really honest, if it had been around when I was that age, me and my brother would also have found it hilarious.

Really inappropriate. Breaking down boundaries In children and teaching them it’s ok to touch parts of the body they should be learning not to touch, and not to allow anyone else to touch them. Of course they would think it’s funny because they know it’s naughty/wrong, ie they shouldn’t be doing it.

It's grim but my 8yos would 100% want one.

I was recently supervising a gathering of 5-8yo relatives, and one of them said "buttcheek" - the entire table erupted in cackles, with one little girl unable to breathe from laughing.

Sadly I think they know their market....

Well I certainly won’t be buying one of those for any of the DGC. I can’t imagine who thought this would be a good concept for a toy - it’s really distasteful.
