Has anyone else seen the "Butt Face Chester Cheeks" toy at Smyths? Surely this isn't right for 4-year-olds?!

Hi everyone,
I recently saw an Instagram clip talking about a controversial new toy, and I honestly couldn't believe it was real. I decided to check my local Smyths to see if it was actually on sale here in the UK, and to my absolute horror, it was right there on the shelves.
The toy is called "Butt Face: Chester Cheeks" (by Goliath Games) and it is aimed at children aged 4 and up.
I’ve added some pictures below, but essentially, it’s a plastic face shaped like a pair of naked buttocks, and the whole premise of the toy involves children squeezing and spreading the cheeks.
Am I being completely unreasonable, or is this incredibly inappropriate for early years? Children learn through play, and at age 4, they are just starting to grasp vital concepts like body safety, personal boundaries, and consent. Normalising this kind of interaction under the guise of "cheeky humour" feels entirely wrong and confusing for toddlers.
I know that major Australian retailers like Big W have already pulled this toy from their shelves after a massive backlash from parents and child safety experts, yet Smyths (and a few other UK retailers) are still selling it.
I've already sent a formal complaint to Smyths customer service asking them to review it. Has anyone else spotted this, or does anyone else feel the same way? If you want to complain too, you can contact them through the Smyths Toys Support Portal.
Would love to hear your thoughts.

This is the worst thing I’ve seen since that big sausage you have to vigorously shake back and forth.

I've just tried to find a video of it in use to see how it is played with and what it does and came across this video ad for a 'ninja' variant called Kung Pu, which I think is even more problematic. It's not just me is it, this is not ok?! https://youtube.com/shorts/hdefMTQtZY8?feature=shared

You haven’t met my grandson…

Yes, he loves Lego and Pokémon and goodness knows what, but a bum would be a very popular stocking filler…

Edited

But the world is burning - why do you want to fill a stocking with disposable plastic tat. I’d rather our kids have a world to laugh in when they are older

Boreded · Yesterday 21:38

I’m 39, I saw it in Smyths yesterday, gave my husband a look that said ‘what the actual F is this’…then squeezed the cheeks and had a good laugh.

probably not appropriate, but made me giggle

Aw, how adorable. Getting young children involved in sexytime play under the guise of puerile childish hilarity. Quite smart of them really.

What's next? Giant foam penii to battle with? Press the rubber clit to play a different tune each time? 🙄

Gotta love sexualisation with a handy 'get out' if anyone dares to object.

Only someone with a really twisted mind would make that connection.

Give over. It's the sexualisation of everything and people are too accepting of it. Kids should be encouraged to play with proper toys not puerile shit like this.

Would they though?
I can see a 6 year old maybe enjoying a momentary rush of it being naughty/rude to play with a bum, but I can't imagine a 10 year old wanting to play with this?

I just haven't met any 10 year old boys who would want to play with a bum.
A fart noise is funny for a couple of minutes maybe, but 10 year olds want Nintendos and lego sets and nerf guns not to fiddle with squeezy bums.
I just can't see the market for this, it's so weird.

Okay? Not all kids like all toys. it's not a big deal.

10 year old boys love farts and anything gross.

I’m sure my Gdcs (esp. the 6 and 10 year olds) would find it hilarious. If there was one that made a fart noise too, even better.

Who is buying this for their kids?

Is it aimed at 4+, or is 4+ the safety guidance? I tend to think the age on a toy is for physical safety issues, small parts etc and that it's up to the buyer to decide if a toy is suitable in other regards for their child's age or not.

Portmore · Yesterday 18:13

They're obsessed with bums & toilets at that age anyway. They can't go through a play time without laughing about both

It's really Important to talk about boundaries/private parts anyway at that age & would be old enough to understand bums are private

StressyMcStressFace · Yesterday 18:11

I'm not sure if I really want to know but what does it actually do???

Because when an adult then touches their bum and tells them they’re just playing like with the toy they’ll think it’s normal. Rather than assault.

Gawd I didn't think of that! I can see what you mean now.

WerewolfOfLoudon · Yesterday 17:30

It's not a bum though, it's a "butt face".

Only if parents don't teach their kids the difference between, y'know, a plastic toy and real life.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · Yesterday 17:23

Do the people who think it's going to encourage inappropriate touching also think Whack-a-mole encourages kids to beat wildlife?

as a parent I tend to, well, talk to my children?

More of the earth’s precious resources going on a 5 min wonder and then straight to landfill. 😔
