Turkey teeth are the new norm?

Yes, the standards of treatment aren’t always great. My friend is a dentist and when I needed implants, I suggested I might go abroad for cheaper treatment. She implored me not to as she has had to treat some horrendous dental fuck-ups that people have had overseas. I’m sure someone will now post to tell me that there are lots of excellent dentists in Turkey and Eastern Europe, which I’m sure there are, but the problem is that if something does go wrong, the patient is by then back in the UK with no easy way of getting the problem resolved other than flying back out to wherever they had the work done, or paying a UK dentist ££££ to fix the damage.

They’re completely ridiculous. But I feel the same way about many of the cosmetic treatments people have these days. Some people look like cartoons or AI images rather than humans.

I had some whitening at the dentists last year and at the end of the treatment, he examined my teeth against a whiteness chart and told me mine were now one shade whiter than the average which surprised me because they really aren’t super-white at all, just ivoryish. I had assumed I would still be in the ‘less white than average’ category- I think because I’ve got used to seeing unnaturally white teeth on people who’ve been to Turkey or Eastern Europe for treatment.

I think this depends where you live. Come up to Liverpool and you'll see plenty.... alongside lip fillers, fake eyelashes, hair extensions, fake tans, fake nails, Botox and fillers. Must cost a bloody fortune to keep up with it all!!

Yep. Dentists in the UK have warned them that their crowns (they describe as veneers) will need replacing. Every time they replace they have to file the stumps down more. Those who have them will likely be toothless by 60 if they are getting their first set in their 20s and 30s.

So the people going to Turkey have their own teeth filed down to stumps and then have white veneers attached. They are not designed to last and so then what? Their own teeth underneath are wrecked/gone. People are fucking mad.

I don’t know anyone who has them. I had some composite work done a few years ago, in England not abroad, and you can’t even tell they’re not the real surface of my teeth. I did it because my jaw alignment meant my teeth chipped when I ate. I had the alignment changed and then the surface rebuilt.

Of course my teeth weren’t shaved down or anything of the sort.

Turkey teeth are crowns pretending to be veneers. Teeth whitening is just… peroxide. Nobody is pretending they don’t whiten their teeth or trying to get one over you with it.

i have veneers done by my dentist - my dentist mentioned they usually are expected to last 10 years though mine are at 12 year mark

I have not and would not have Turkey teeth. That said I have always felt my teeth were yellow-ish despite being straight. A colleague has lovely teeth so I asked her if they were natural one day and she recommended whitening strips from the US (I’m in Wales. You can buy on line) I now have white teeth. Not over the top white and not in a way that lots of people would comment (though a couple of friends have asked me what’s different about me) . It’s a million miles away from Turkey teeth but I now feel confident openly smiling In photos again.

Turkey teeth are a whole different look and it’s like they want to stand out. They don’t even look like they have individual teeth half of the time. I agree that this will become the new standard norm for younger generations sadly and anyone who cares about their appearance will ‘have’ to do some sort of treatment so they don’t look like Grotbags (even though they don’t in the first place. They just feel like they do compared with all of the illuminated teeth that surround them)

Why isnt it Turkish Teeth? This,I think, annoys me more than the actual teeth.

We have 2 members of the family with UV Turkey teeth and a friend's DIL has them too. Not celeb type people at all,just normal jobs.

I say gpod for them if it makes them feel more confident why not. Not different to any other cosmetic procedure. Ie having false nails

See this just isn’t true. Well done composite bonding or true elegant veneers can’t be detected easily. The massive crowns they’re fitting badly in Turkey are not good dentistry.

I've just spent a lot of money on dentures (historical upper jaw trauma, won't detail as DV) and the most important thing to me was natural looking colour. I'm really, really happy with them- matching to my lower teeth took the clinician a while but very white would look totally wrong on me.

Agree! My DF use to have a pair of joke teeth that he’d slip in unexpectedly and we’d fall about laughing, and whenever I see pics of Katie Price that’s all I see!

‘Turkey Teeth’ are when people go to Turkey to get cheap dental veneers. They are usually perfectly uniform, absolutely enormous and a shade of white so bright you can see them from a long distance away. In Liverpool they’re not an unusual sight. My exH had them over 25 years ago, hence his nickname “Ross”. They have become very popular lately.

I really hope it doesn't become the norm, it's not a good look!

I agree that the natural look is much nicer, although orthodontic work can make a hugely positive difference. It did for me. I do whiten mine from time to time but other than that I have no plans to get anything done to them unless a dentist recommends it!

Recently house sat for a dentist who is/ was appalled at the number of people who have been to turkey to get implants ( not like here process which takes months) but four in a row put in all at once cos cheaper. Hugely unregulated sector some absolute horror stories about when it goes wrong/ infection develops/ bite is asymmetric etc

Yes - I saw quite a few people with them in Manchester airport a few weeks ago. The quality of the work was shocking but I guess it was the best they could afford.

When you look at someone you mostly look at their eyes where there is also an expression of friendliness, fear, whatever. Brilliant white teeth distract so you look at them rather than their eyes. So can’t engage as easily.

Normal teeth aren’t one colour - front ones being whiter than incisors and lower teeth (slightly)

I whiten my teeth. They are shade B1 and I love them. They're not perfectly straight, though, which doesn't bother me.

I live in an area where loads of people have them. They are awful, they are often too big for the facial features and they change the overall shape of the face and the way the lips and mouth move. To me they look like dentures that your granddad would wear.

When I think about how much it must have cost to look so awful it makes me wince.

Is this the effect people are after?
I presume they don't think it looks like dentures, although I agree it does.
My mother had full dentures and got them privately made so that they didn't look perfect and, therefore, fake.

Never heard of this (not a thing where I live (yet)) but after googling it’s quite shocking actually. Teeth get naturally a bit darker as we age so blindingly white teeth surrounded by a 30+ face look like cheap dentures. Is this the effect people are after?
