To think the providers of ebikes in cities (hello Lime and Voi)

If they are double yellow lines thry are not taking up a car space so what harm are they doing there to pedestrians or drivers

Lime ask for a “safely parked” photo.
That doesn’t stop people dumping the bikes

In theory Lime will collect them anyway, but it will
depend on how long they are left there

As they are on double yellows they are illegally parked and can be reported via the Lime app

Got back from holiday yesterday to find 8 Lime bikes illegally parked on the double yellow lines outside my house. Apparently you can only contact Lime - the council isn't interested. So I have done that. I wonder how long it will take for them to be removed.

Btw I thought you had to take a pic of the bike safely parked at the end of your journey. But 8 people have done this!!

Thank you for that. My council actually runs Forest Bikes, which are a bit smaller, but I live on the cusp of another local authority, which does have Lime and of course users don't care they are dumping them over the boundary. So my LA doesn't take anything to do with the Lime bikes.

Didnt sound like a rant or racist, sounded truthful and I’m grateful you didnt stay silent because it’s ‘ taboo’ to admit difficulties about refugees. I see the same thing that you see and it’s this that makes me think these bikes shouldn’t be ridden without helmets, it seems crazy. I’d rather they didn’t exist, but seeing how unsafe they are is horrible.

Here they seem to be mainly ridden by our refugee community who I doubt have ever read the highway code. Not a racist rant just an observational truth.

I blame bad riders not the bikes which many people use to get around.

@Arran2024 a couple of tips:

• If you lift a Lime bike's back wheel slightly (easiest way to do this is lift using the handle that most of them have at the back of the saddle) you can roll it out of your way on its front wheel. Only the back wheels are locked.
• if you download the Lime app and create an account there's a section under Help to "report improper parking".
• reporting to your council may or may not be worthwhile, depends where you live

No, you shouldn't have to, and I'm sorry that some people are inconsiderate with the bikes in your area. But it seemed worth mentioning.

How did i just know you would have a go about picking up the parcel? In fact, this is the first time I have ever picked up a parcel and it was due to a misunderstanding with the delivery company. Having said that, my adult daughter has epilepsy and I use the car to transport her around - no way will she be using an e bike.

So they are being used for v useful journeys poss more useful than picking up parcels that can be mostly be delivered to your door

I don't either,I very nearly had a similar accident with one when a woman sped round the corner on the pavement,a second later and if I hadn't realised then I think I'd have been in a similar situation as that poor woman.
You can't use electric scooters on pavements but you can use these things without helmets? Madness.

I just drove to our local parade of shops (to pick up a large, heavy parcel before I start getting hassle for using the car).

There is a parking bay for electric bikes right outside the newsagents. It was empty. But dotted all around the parade were Lime bikes, at least 20 of them, just dumped wherever.

We are quite a way from the railway stations and it seems that people hire Lime bikes from outside the stations to get home, then just dump them, which is why we have so many in such a residential area. Then the school kids take them to school.

Outside London they probably have driving licences too. The issue is that they are clueless In London because there's little reason to need to drive.

@Nodirectionhome The riders of the e-bikes and e-scooters are not even getting any exercise. It is like having motorbikes on pavements.

Ebikes need you to cycle before providing any assistance so it's utterly wrong to say that riders aren't getting any exercise.

I have my own ebike. I have a growth on the bottom of my foot that means walking more than a short distance is impossible due to the pain. My ebike has transformed my life, has made me able to exercise without pain and keeps my elderly joints moving. I cycle mainly on quiet back roads - I've had a few near misses with cars overtaking me where the road has narrowed due to parked cars. I wouldn't be without mine though, and shame on those wanting them all to be banned - you have no idea what it's like to have the solution to a disability, and then someone wants to get rid of that solution.

It's a bicycle. The bicycle itself hasn't done anything wrong?! They're good for getting around for lots of people.

I can't use them as I am too scared but I don't think they could be considered death machines because one person on one crashed into someone. What about manufacturers of all motorised vehicles? Much more dangerous!

This is the equivalent of sending all car manufactures to prison too. Fault lays with the operator of the vehicle not the maker.

I have successfully used lime bikes in a number of cities without hurting anyone or causing any accidents.

That's what is needed. We already have bays for electric vehicle charging.

Btw there are currently 9 Lime / Forest bikes on the pavement now.

The comparison with cars is not a very good one, as people own their own cars and are 100% responsible. In this case, it would be like Hertz lying and saying that they didn't know who had hired a car, which had been in a crash.

This is what Lime have done, when it's evident that they absolutely must know, as they can only be hired, by paying with a card.

Someone said that she has gone to the Motor Insurers Bureau, which, from personal experience, do take ages, ignore facts and lie about it, keep demanding paperwork they already have etc.

I think it should be mandatory for the bikes to have a cycle helmet attached. They could add a sensor so it needs to be attached back properly or there will be a fine, in the same way there is a fine if bikes aren’t put back in the same place.

So give up some of that 'nose to tail' car parking space over to bike parking. Problem solved.

No. They are all parked legally and correctly. Not on the pavement.

My point is that pedestrians can't get past because you have walls on one side cars on the other, and bikes on the pavement.

I hate all these bloody bikes on the pavement and the ones which speed through red light. I was almost hit this week crossing the road opposite my work. The big e bikes need licencing and riders should pass a road test I think as they are so dangerous.
