Bums hanging out of the bottom of teeny tiny shorts

This is what I don’t get. Why they were fine in the 1970s but why the women who were born in the 1970s only have an issue with girls wearing them today.

And I speak as a conservative dresser.

I think men walking around high streets/supermarkets/public transport etc with no top on is actually worse than butt cheeks.

I don't find it any worse than the mums on the school run in their sports lycra flashing their camel toes tbh

As humans, I feel its is very normal to have critical views about lots of things other humans do. I am equally judgemental of men. I don't want to see any arse cheeks when I am going about my day, male or female. I dont like short shorts, I don't like seeing men walking around days with no tops on on hot days either. Doesn't mean I want to ban dental floss bikinis but I don't appreciate seeing naked and semi naked buttocks when going about my business. I think its crass. Why are women immune to people being critical of their 'attire' ?

Having said that I was swimming recently and thong bikinis seem to be fashionable amongst the teens and twenties

It's bloody awful but it's the fashion, what can you do? Like those up-the-bum leggings and thong bikinis, it's just TMI in clothing form.

The pendulum will swing back the way sooner or later and it will be polo necks and maxi skirts.

I saw a girl in Nando's wearing these, bum cheeks clearly visible. I've got knickers bigger than those shorts. She was only about 14/15. But thanks to mumsnet I see it's applauded that a young teenager walks around like that so men can gawp at her because she can wear what she wants and it's nobody's business 🤷🏻‍♀️

Are their genitals and arsehole covered? As long as the shorts are covering the area normal swimwear or knickers (full, high leg, bikini etc, not thong/string) would cover, then they aren't indecent.

It is a fashion choice i certainly wouldn't make myself, but a bit of lower/side bum cheek is hardly obscene, its not labia or bum crack/hole.

I think its a terrible look, also sometimes dont I think tbey realise how terrible it looks from the back.
For those saying dont look, they walking in my eye line, im presuming they want people to look...

I've seen 2 people in big knickers today, just like the old school PE knickers. One had it paired with a matching crop top, the other had it paired with a matching dress that split from the navel. I've not even come across these shopping but it must be some new fashion trend for me to see two in one day.

Agree! Male or female, any shorter than Daisy Dukes wouldn't be a nice idea on seats.

I am 58. If I had a bum that looked good hanging out of teeny tiny shorts I would do it. Sadly if I did people would think I had a growth on the back of my knees.

There’s a sign on my local supermarket door saying clothes must be worn no swimwear - apparently they have had issues this week, including a lady in just a “very skimpy” bikini hence the notice (I’ve been away through the hot spell)

This is true. On a recent holiday a lady in a tiny thong bikini sat on a wooden barstool. The staff disinfected it after she moved!

If it's not your kind of fashion - don't wear it.

However, you don't get to bitch about what other people wear and then expect to be able to make choices for yourself.

Either we choose for ourselves, or we have some sort of forced uniform that is decided by ?who - is that what we want? Clothing forced upon us by others.

Yes, I think the bikini wearing on the high street is a stage too far. Though not sure why.

Driving in Tesco car park on Friday, we found ourselves behind a woman wearing a teeny pleated skirt. We could see her bum cheeks below the hem (she was a stocky young woman, and there was quite a bit of bum visible) and both my partner (female) and I (ditto) exclaimed "I don't think she's wearing pants!"

She suddenly leaned over the trolley her bloke was pushing and we could see she was wearing a thong.

It's story as old as time. I rolled up my skirt in the early 90s, and some girls/women want super short shorts now. As PP said, it's for the male gaze, of course, but some people occasionally like having the male gaze and I don't think there is anything wrong with that. Doesn't excuse any sexual violence or unwanted attention.

Yep. And I don't want to sit on a seat that someone's naked bum cheeks have been on. Or sweaty thighs.

It annoys me as it’s one extreme to rhe other .. girls/ women so desperate for male attention they want to attract it by wearing unattractive and obviously sexually provocative clothing because some 16 year old has seen it on SM . To women clad in head to toe cover ups because a religion has been interpreted this way by .. men ! Who mostly ignore the same religion requirements for themselves..

I don’t think it’s anything new. My best friend used to wear teeny tiny denim shorts back in 1985… My mother was appalled 🤣 but to be fair she had a figure like Kylie Minogue, so she could get away with it.
