Tbh I’ve not noticed anyone wearing short shorts where I live so am wondering if this thread is rage bait. Or maybe I’ve not noticed because I’m not interested in what others choose to wear.

I went to an all girl school and rolled up my skirt. I still wear clothes I think make me look nice, even when I know I'll only be with other women. I am really uncomfortable with accusation that every woman not wearing a baggy top, loose trousers and sensible shoes must be trying to attract the 'male gaze'. Maybe they think they look good, maybe they've been working out hard and want to show off a body they're proud of (body positivity, anyone?), maybe they're just copying their friends, maybe they're just really bloody hot and want to wear as few clothes as possible. I spend precisely no time wondering what men might think of me when I choose outfits. Nor when I dye my hair, go to the gym, put on a bikini, remove my body hair - or even wear high heels. The only women I ever hear talking about the 'male gaze' are women attacking other women and claiming they are trying to attract sexual attention. And presumably if they get sexually assaulted, it's at least partly their fault for wearing clothes men might think they look nice in. If they'd been wearing a nice comfortable, practical outfit of jumper, jeans and trainers, they wouldn't have attracted the 'male gaze', after all...

I don't want to see too much of ANY person. Male or female. Not because I think they're asking for sex, because it looks dirty and sweaty and smelly and I don't want to be near other people's dirt, sweat or smell. Especially if they're sitting somewhere I then want to sit! I would object equally to a man's bottom poking out, and not because I thought he was dressing for the 'female gaze', nor because I was uncomfortably aroused or thought I might sexually assault him. I think social norms about acceptable dress is fine, I think claiming woman must only be wearing shorts because they're trying to attract men is revolting. The same was said about mini skirts. The same was said about calf-length skirts, and about showing ankles, and hair. That way burkhas lie - and that really is dressing for the male gaze.

I don't "look" at girls in very short shorts, but it is almost impossible to avoid seeing them. I don't walk around with my eyes closed.

It was only a few years back that boys had jeans slung so low their arses were barely contained. At least ladies bottoms are less offensive. It's fashion-this too, shall pass...

There’s a festival on locally and every second teen girl/young woman is wearing these shorts. Every single boy/man is wearing baggy shorts believe the knees, t shirt and socks halfway up their legs.

The ones in that photo have about twice as much fabric as the ones I’ve seen lately. I wouldn’t have an issue with those. They come up the top of the thighs. The ones people are talking about are cut away so that half of each arse cheek hangs out.

Ergh I hate it to OP, I don't want to see anyone's arse. I also hate when men walk about without t-shirts on, especially in places like the supermarket. It just looks grim.

Nipples, arses, vulvas and penises should all be covered up as a minimum.

I think teens can probably wear what they like in their own time, but school skirts so short they show arse cheek makes a mockery of the uniform system - and I think that whatever the gender, no-one should be in a school uniform which shows arse

My local secondary thinks it’s really modern and hip by having no uniform and it’s arse hanging out shorts or ‘leggings’ that are just 40 denier tights that are the fashion with the 11-18 year olds. It is indeed a paedos dream.

It was better round here when the kids wore PE kits - the PE skirts are naturally quite short but they are pleated so hard to roll up, and looked fine. The usual skirts are supposed to be longer, but get rolled up to show arse cheek, so the PE kit looked a lot smarter

Like a recent thread explains there is less respect for others in general now. I see people wearing clothes that show the outline of their boobs/bums. No there is nothing wrong with their bodies but some things are private and I think it's rude to impose it on someone else. But I've realised it's what's easiest to buy, trendiest or easiest to put on that leads people to buy those kinds of clothes. I don't like any clothes that even show the outline of my bum. So for example, I wouldn't wear leggings without a long top or dress. My bum isn't flat, so I wouldn't wear jogging pants either. I only wear skirts if it's warm and I'll have a long top over that too. I wear natural materials that won't cause me to sweat though.
