Tbf I wore some skimpy outfits in my time. I was a teenager when Britney and Christina wore bra tops and low cut jeans. I obviously copied the trend on occasion as much as my parents hated it.

Desperation/need for attention, but if everyone else is doing it it gets harder to stand out so the clothing gets less and less until it just becomes ridiculous and people are laughing at you and making threads online about the sad case they saw on the high street.

Young people have always pushed back against their parents, its human nature. Its how fashion has changed.

But for the current generation, there isnt much the generations before havent already done (especially GenX of which I count myself a proud member!) so they either have to dial it right back in a Saffy kind of way or go even more extreme.

Their parents are old and stupid and they need to prove that they are not like their parents so they go to extremes. They will learn, like we all did, that comfy is best!

It's never a good look, even for someone with an incredible body, it just looks trashy. Short is fine, but no need for arse cheeks hanging out

Hmm I own a pair but only wear them on the beach or around the house/garden as they feel a bit wrong! Today at a local park with rivers, waterfalls and swans etc there was a girl who must have been about 13-14 in a thong bikini paddling. It felt so wrong!

I wore some terrible shit in my youth but now, this too would be my prevailing concern.

I’m 49 and perimenopausal. I have a saggy arse. So no of course I wouldn’t wear them.

But if I was 18 and perky? Hell yeah. And no one would stop me.

Boundaries? That's surely gymnasts wearing bodysuits not ultra high cut leotards or women wearing trousers and flats. Not having both cheeks on show whilst walking up the escalator

Come off it! There was nothing even remotely similar in the 70s to what people are talking about here. Nor did people swan around in thongs. If your skirt was short enough to show your pants, you were very careful how you walked/sat etc. I was prime trying-to-be-shocking age in the 70s, so I remember it well.
