AIBU to think neighbours should not be naked in their garden?

For context: Our house is on a new build estate and the houses are pretty close together. It’s fairly easy to see into neighbours gardens because the trees etc are not well established yet.

AIBU to say my neighbours shouldn’t be naked in their garden. They are often out in the garden totally naked taking photos of themselves. They have parties quite often and it’s not uncommon for them and friends to be out in the garden naked / using the hot tub etc.

Am I being a killjoy ? Seems excessive to me.

As I said in my post, I know people who go naked in their garden. Someone complained, the police visited and there was nothing they could do. I'm not saying it's OK and I wouldn't be happy with it myself 's just what happened.

I read what you said about the people you know.
But my point is the law in the matter of nudity is not a " one size fits all" one and just because the police didn't see what was happening in the instance you cite wasn't a crime doesnt mean to say it won't be seen as a crime in the case of OP's neighbours.

As I said. Being naked in public is not against the law.

OP, don't look in their garden and you won't be offended and they will treat you with similar respect. Teach your son this too. I can't imagine he is too interested. People should be able to wear what they like in their gardens. If you don't like it, don't look.

I’m quite surprised at these reactions. I think it’s a bit off when kids can see them. They sound like exhibitionists. Really weird. I’d be having a word.

Who exactly is the driving force behind normalising nudity? Is it women, or men?

Is it a male interest, or a female one? Because wanting a tan without strap lines is a very different goal to everyone accepting having to see your genitals.

Who runs British Naturism, for example. Is it women?

Honestly call the police non-emergency line and have a word. Being naked in public (which includes a garden where people can see you) is hopefully still an offence and they can have a word. The neighbours don't need to know it was you that complained.

Being naked in public isn’t and has never been illegal.

How do you know it's not a crime?

The law on nudity in public is not black and white. It very much is dependent on intentions of those being nude in public and also the effect it has on the people who see the nudity.

OP has every right to report this to the police and they ars the ones who will decide whether in this case it is a crime. I think at the very least the police who have words with these exhibitionists about being more discreet with their behaviour!

Somehow you seem to think that the line you draw is the "correct line"

I'm showing you that it's a continuum, from total body covering, to full nudity.

Somewhere on that line are other situations that you find acceptable yet others do not. If we adopted their "correct line" then women would be oppressed about their permitted clothing.

It gives me a guilty thrill. I do keep a kaftan handy in case I need to go to the door. Yesterday an unexpected parcel came with special delivery so the postie had to wait til put on my kaftan. Your neighbours would not bother me. I have known naturists before.

Since it isn’t me, it’s hilarious! I can see 4 neighbour’s yards from my bedroom window and regularly make accidental eye contact with one from my kitchen. It would be a very bad location for someone to have a naturalist lifestyle. We were proud of one of them having a personal trainer last year, and I assume they’ve seen me in my underwear getting a drink. It would be even more awkward if they were naked all the time. Totally unacceptable to have a naked outdoor party in this neighbourhood.

In my parents’ area where you can see into gardens from some angles but it isn’t in your face, it would be funny but appropriate. If I was 11 I’d peek and laugh
