AIBU to think neighbours should not be naked in their garden?

Simple nudity does not equate to sex.

Well, nowadays I have young grandchildren. I would prefer for them not being introduced to nakedness by watching the neighbours frollicking in their (own) garden. But then I guess it would be up to me to not let said grandchildren see this happening? If needed I will keep the children away from any stairs or ladders to avoid being confronted by dicks and/or boobies.

Clothes are actually very useful/practical, it turns out. I don't really undestand naturists for this reason; who would cook naked, fix a car, or do sport in the nud? It'd be stupid. Clothes protect us and they keep stuff in place and keep us comfortable 😉

Anyway, if we were all naked they'd have to invent anti-macassars for our bums 🤢

it is because there is no law against public nudity in the uk. It is only illegal if it is done to cause alarm, distress or for sexual gratification. If you’re just naked and going about your business it is not illegal.

i think you misunderstood all those years ago.

I studied law decades ago but distinctly remember some case law basically saying if you are naked in your own garden and you know for a fact your neighbour can see you, and they are known to look out of their own windows (ie they can’t make an excuse saying you guys never look out of your own windows so they didn’t know you might spy them starkers) then they are 100% in the wrong and you do have legal recourse against them.
All these years since I made sure I was never naked on or in my own property if there was even a chance that neighbours might accidentally see me, because I was convinced I’d be breaking the law if they did and they could report me. I tried googling it and “Tate Gallery” case law came up that might apply in your situation.

So essentially yes OP, the fact they have naked parties and are fully aware that their garden is overlooked by other houses simply isn’t on, and I’m a little shocked that the majority of replies here are telling you to mind your own business. Perhaps new laws came out since as we’ve become a far less prudish society than in the past, but I’m pretty sure it’s just that people today don’t realise their rights. Courts take into account the consequences of their rulings, and they want to protect people from neighbours who would deliberately flash them and hide behind “it’s my private property so I’m not doing anything wrong”

If this post had been "AIBU for being naked in my garden where children can see me" the answers would all be telling them they are flashers and need to put privacy measure in place.

Bit odd yeah but it is their property so I’d suggest not looking into their garden. Different story if they are striding around the streets naked

I wouldn't care, personally I wouldn't do it because of all of the insects crawling around!

It's like nudist beaches, gave them a try just for the experience but ugh all the sand and risk of jellyfish stinging you without a bit of protection.

You’re a period property person OP stuck in a new build. The walls in our semi are Victorian. No sound has ever permeated them. It’s very cool inside in summer too.

it’s expensive to live here, so everyone is a bit up themselves. No one smokes or vapes, plays music or swears in the garden. Were way too posh for that sort of thing. I’ve not smelt a bonfire here ever, or a BBQ, the latter being a bit odd. Kids play but no one screeches, and footballs are kicked around in the nearby park not gardens.

That depends on the layout of the house & garden. Every house in our terrace was originally built with the kitchen upstairs, the kitchen windows offset from central, and the worktop & sink placed under & adjacent to the window, respectively. Consequently if I'm cooking, I'm facing the window, and can see about 90% of next door's garden, but I can't see our DC playing in ours. It's a bloody silly design, but we can't afford to move the kitchen.
