AIBU to expect my partner to flush after a wee?

Just want to rant really 😂
My partner has a really annoying habit of not flushing after a wee.
Our flat is old so the shower temperature if affected by taps or the toilet flush.
He likes to turn the shower on to allow it to warm up and then have a wee in the mornings. Because the shower is running he doesn’t flush the toilet and just puts the lid down.

today I came home and opened the lid to use the toilet and the stench was unbearable. The wee had been in there since 10am when he left for work and the flat is 30 degrees today so you can imagine 🤢

AIBU that he should flush the bloody toilet!

The reason why urine smells if it's not flushed is because bacteria break down waste products and convert urea into pungent ammonia gas. It is myth that urine is sterile. I wouldn't put up with urine brewing for hours at 30 degrees because my partner can't press a button when he gets out of the shower. In fact, it would probably be a deal breaker for me because I'm sure he is a selfish prat in other respects too.

I pay my water bill and I always flush every time. My son is not dehydrated but boy wee stinks! So if he left it sitting in the bowl I'd be annoyed to.

There’s some weird responses here. I would never flush if I wee in the night as it’ll wake the whole house up. So of course it’s there in the morning when I add to it. It never smells bad but I drinks loads of water.
He probably forgot, so be thankful he puts the lid down. You could have found something much worse.

Oh no fuck that. I'm with you op.
I live in a Victorian, like the shower to warm up etc. Go for a wee, flush. Turn shower on, brush teeth. nothing stopping him doing that.

In a toilet it shouldn’t smell. You shouldn’t flush after every wee it’s really bad got the environment- if it smells really bad in a loo then there’s some issue going on

Another thread where people say 'he needs to see the GP' for a perfectly natural odour.

Urine does smell, stronger at times than others like the morning, less so at other times but it will always have a scent. It doesnt mean there is a health issue!!

And yes if its sat a while, particularly with the lid down in the heat, when you open the lid it will be a concentrated scent. Nothing abnormal about that either

I don’t flush after every wee in my own home, as it doesn’t smell.

I will likely flush out of habit during the day but I never flush at night.

when I go in the toilet in the morning there are usually 2 wees from other fam overnight. It doesn’t stink. I then wee and flush.

YABU. It's a waste of water. You can have 2 or 3 wees or more without flushing. Natch in the hot weather it might smell but otherwise let it sit

Urgh I’m with you op and would find this absolutely grim!
I’m so glad I don’t go to other peoples houses and use their loos to discover that they’re “if it’s yellow” people 😂 at least if they are they make an effort to freshen up before guests go round…

I see other posters already said that ;)

I think peeing in the shower is fine too - it gets flushed straight down and I can't see why it's any worse than period blood which must end up getting washed down the plughole for a lot of women too. Or even normal blood if you nick yourself shaving!

A couple of wees left overnight don’t smell in our bathroom so I’m surprised one wee stinks so much. At least he’s toilet trained and not pissing in the shower I suppose but, if it bothers you and you’ve spoken to him, then yes, he should be flushing.

I’ve heard peeing in the shower is recommended actually. It saves on water and toilet roll and is more hygienic because you’re washing after instead of using paper.
I personally don’t, it’s just what I heard.
