What purchases make your life a bit better recently?

i don’t want some paid influencer to tell me, i want real people to!

  • cyberjammies- the best most comfy pj’s I’ve ever had I now have 3 pairs
  • snag tights. I’ll never wear other tights again
  • Laura gelled face powder makeup- specifically bronzer to go which has a poof and a mirror built in

My chub rub shorts from M and S. They’re quite thin so don’t make me hotter, I have been able to wear dresses all summer in complete comfort. I’m a size 12 with pretty chunky thighs, these have saved summer for me!!

It’s a Bosch (series 4?). It can’t do loads on that Setting but if you’ve just got a few bits it’s blooming handy! It can do a full load in about 2 1/2 - 3 hours.

I second the person who said coverless duvets for the kids. I have a child with a medical condition and it means that night time dryness is very hit and miss and mostly miss. I can bung the duvet in a quick setting in my washer dryer and it’s done in an hour which is a huge difference!

A holiday. Just a cheap and cheerful caravan by the sea, but wonderful. A week off caring duties. Although buying some new paint brushes, arty ones made me feel good too. Chocolate too.

The new HUDA beauty loose powder.
Been absolutely brilliant at smoothing out my makeup finish, keeping my face from looking too shiny and disguises my ever increasingly sized pores. As an added bonus it smells lovely too.

@IfyouStealMySunshine it says this is a setting powder also ? Would it work on a nose ! A shiny red nose ? To keep concealer there ?

Ninja Slushi, the XL model, been a lifesaver in the heat. I can have cold slushed squash all day and just chuck wine in in the evening. Irs currently on sale with an extra offer in the discount section. If the extra discount doesn't work, phone them.

I don't get on with snag tights, I don't understand the love for them. Mine tore in seconds. I also got persuaded by those shorts they sell to wear under skirts and I don't get the appeal they just made me horribly hot and sweaty

I’m really hoping dp’s mum will agree to a lift at some point @TrickyD. There’s a school of thought that she should move into supported living but I think a lift would fix most things that are fixable and give her a new lease of life.

A real lift, not a stair one. Every time I get in it I think ‘Thank God’ . I love everything about it, the way the light comes on when you open the ‘stable door’ and goes off a minute after you exit, the fold up seat though I haven’t needed it yet, the way it aligns perfectly with the floor to make getting in and out easy but a grab rail just in case, when we are on our way out and I suddenly realise I left something in the bedroom but don’t need to climb the stairs to retrieve it.
Luckily we had the perfect spot for it, a small ‘study’ used for dumping post and an identical room above for spare bedclothes.
It cost exactly £17,000.
I am 82, large house with high ceilings and stairs to match.
It hasn’t made my life a ‘bit better’, it has transformed it. I’ve mentioned it on here before but as I love it so much here it is again.

Fancy tomatoes on the vine.

Small in the grand scheme of things, but I'm trying my best to lose weight and overhaul my diet and having yummy tomatoes makes me look forward to my salad much more than the cheap, bland cherry tomatoes we always normally buy.

I agree, tomatoes are the one thing that you can definitely taste the difference when you have bought better quality

Robot mowers are great. Get one that doesn't need cable laying - it's a faff and they break.

Well I mowed the lawn before the robot did his first cut, so it wasn't too long, and as we don't have GPS the mow is very random, had I left it for the mower to cut then there would have been lots of weird paths through the grass until it had covered the whole lawn.

Another benefit for me is the relief that I never now have to look at the lawn and think 'that needs mowing'. It's strange as I have only gained a few hours per week, it just feels more (mental load etc).

Yes they do work. They work best on medium-big weeds I think. Small/young weeds can still work too but it brings up a lot of the soil around them. Also, best done after some rain. It doesn’t work if the soil is baked solid.

We don't have a normal mower, just the robot.
She coped fine with the first mow. Although I had left her plugged in all winter which killed the battery, but after replacing that it was fine.
Usually they leave very fine grass cuttings all over the lawn, which just turn into mulch, but after the first mow there were long grass cuttings everywhere so I did actually do a quick rake, which I don't usually have to.

I do however love my Fiskars Xact weed puller. It has totally transformed my enthusiasm towards my garden.

A rice cooker, recommended by a friend who is Chinese.

I thought it would feel like cheating but actually it's amazing. I'll never cook rice any other way ever again (well, except biryani).

This was mine too! I was raised eating rice and so find it easy to prep on the stove. I never understood the need for a rice cooker but all my friends of various East Asian descent use them. Colleagues of mine (Malaysian / Chinese) convinced me to get one and I wish I had got one years ago!
