Does anybody else dislike Pride?

Does anybody else dislike Pride?

We have one in our town for the second year running, and it's just really off.

Now before I get the "don't be homophobic comments" I am very much live and let live.

It's just that it can be very adult in the middle of the day.

I don’t really notice it, but my husband has gay friends who say it’s become overly sexualised/fetishistic and focused on TQ rather than LGB these days.

Dontevenlookatme · 04/06/2026 13:56

Yes me, but not because of its themes. I just don’t see why it’s worth making such a fuss over or why everyone else is supposed to get on board. I wouldn’t ever oppose a Pride event but neither am I remotely interested in it.

MrsMcGarry · 04/06/2026 13:56

I'd more concerned by the fact you think your children automatically assume leather strapping and skimpy outfits are a sign of sexual perversion. How do they know this?

ERthree · 04/06/2026 13:56

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 04/06/2026 13:18

Oh Lord save us from adult outfits!

So much worse than the actual violence that takes place at right-wing events.

A few years ago i saw two guys with the backside cut out of their jeans and their full arses on show. Do you think that is acceptable for children to see?

Did you miss the bit about the paedophilia flag? I’m not seeing any joy there, are you?

I don't want to Google... paedophilia flag?

I don't like Pride.

I'm straight, but my 3 gay friends say they don't identify with the image of gay-ness which Pride promotes. They're quiet, gentle, private people and they don't identify with the extrovert, in-your-face flamaboyance of Pride.

Personally I don't think it represents all gay people, who are individuals first and foremost.

It's like all the stupid drag queens going into schools to read stories - it's a very extreme form of sexual identification which gets far too much publicity.

My piano teacher is a lesbian and I think that she would feel extremely out of place in a pride event, for those reasons you've stated.

Do you get equally upset about young people wearing skimpy clothes around the beach? You’d have had a field day around here during the heatwave, girls in thong bikinis walking up the high street, boys and men with their shirts off. Just not on is it?

Because that is exactly the same!

Yes as in live your life how you want, but I don't think it's right to be walking through the middle of a town at lunch in full on bondage gear.

Pride is a wonderful celebration, but some people just don't like to see joy, I guess.

Pride used to be wonderful, inclusive and fantastic atmosphere.

In recent years it has become a very different atmosphere.
Men in furry outfits
Men in gimp masks
Men in bondage
Men playing womanface aka derogative drag

No thank you!
It used to be fun.

I’m bisexual and I absolutely hate the way you’ve tried to make this about homophobia rather than about valid concerns.

Thank you for this sensible comment.

For some reason, my town holds its Pride event in August. My mistake for not checking last year, but we ended up coming back from holiday on the day of the parade. The train station was packed with men scantily clad in leather shorts, with far more visible than I wanted to see. I had to get my two young daughters away from there as quickly as possible. I’m not sure why some middle-aged fat blokes thought it was fine to impose that on everyone else. I’ve checked the dates this year so we can avoid the town centre on the day.

Tell me where your other posts are about the protection of children and I will believe you that this thread isn't about gay people and your dislike of them.

Doubledenim305 · 04/06/2026 13:52

Totally agree. Very sexual and not something for during the day. U are allowed an opinion and I don't like it either and totally disagree with drag queens reading stories to children in library.

First off, I’m bisexual so I’m not homophobic before anyone stops reading and starts banging out an accusation on their keyboard.

OP, you are right. Some people on here are worryingly naive and uninformed. They are defending the notion of Pride - equality, acceptance, inclusion and the way that Pride parades used to be: family friendly, colourful, creative, happy.

Modern Pride, as you rightly observe, is quite often nothing of the sort. I’ve seen (first hand, as well as second hand via uploaded footage) adults urinating on each other, using spanking paddles, wearing bondage gear, wearing strap on dildos, exposing their genitals, going topless, displaying death threats to feminists, men getting children to stroke them while wearing furry fetish outfits etc etc etc. This is not indoors, in private, or in fetish clubs. It’s on high streets during the day. If anyone doesn’t believe me, simply Google any of the examples I’ve stated and you’ll see thousands of pieces of evidence. Several Pride organisers have been convicted of sex offences, including against children. We used to take these things seriously.

Pride is no longer about being proudly lesbian, gay or bisexual. It is largely about the celebration of sexual fetishes and cross-dressing and it is not appropriate for street parades in front of children who should not be exposed to adult sexuality.

If posters are lucky enough to have a Pride parade that’s still family-friendly in their area, then good for them. Most LGB people I know have distanced themselves from it. I certainly have. I used to attend London Pride every single year.

Ding ding - this is exactly it.

Of course, no gay man's ever been violent or murderous, have they?

No, it's not live and let live - when it comes to children seeing sexual outfits in the middle of the day! That's just wrong.

I do get it. Not even everyone who is lgtbtq enjoys them. They are a bit too chains a whips rather than just pride sometimes, haha. I've been before but I find them a bit of a chaotic parade/day.

Always disliked it. And before anyone chimes in, I'm bisexual and have attended many in the past. Particularly now, it is overly sexualised, obnoxious, and ideological.

It doesn’t interest me one way or the other. It’s not compulsory to attend. Let people enjoy themselves.

Couldn't agree more. I've also been involved in London Pride in the past, but wouldn't do it now I don't think.

It became a binfire of infighting, where quelle fucking surprise, women/lesbians/feminists became the main subject of hatred.

And the puppy fetisishts were often met with bemusement. Among many of the gay people I know, it's seen as as much of a straight thing as a gay thing anyway.

So as open minded as I am, if I had a young child, not sure I'd be over the moon at them seeing a grown man with a massive leather cock protruding from their fetish outfit at a daytime 'family friendly' event. Let's save it for the evening, eh?
