I read this quote and it encapsulates exactly how I feel

'I never thought I'd see the day when the Right became the cool ones giving the finger to the establishment, and the Left became the snivelling self-righteous ones going around shaming everybody'

AIBU to think this is what many people think these days? We didn't leave the left, the left left us.

*the quote is from John Lydon aka Johnny Rotten. He's deliberately provocative in lots of ways, but he meant this one. I fully expect some people to come on the thread to tell us all how he's a horror and said he likes Donald Trump. That would be them missing the point.. but.. Let Them..

Why do you think there’ll be an election in 2027? Are you still hanging on to the idea a new PM would do it to get their own mandate? Pie in the sky. Labour has a historically high majority and know that they wouldn’t get the same again even if the change brought enough voters back to win. It would be political suicide. Won’t happen.

Oh dear @SlumChum you are definitely one of the labour loyals for eva and eva. You can't imagine that someone used to be a labour supporter (and member in fact), and now will vote Conservative due to how utterly mindbogglingly incompetent the latter day labour party have become.. Hilarious. But it's not a surprise. More a symptom.

Leaving the EU has only made us more vulnerable to other foreign powers. Sovereignty cannot be thought of in terms of absolute. If we don't get closer to the EU again, we'll end up a vassal of the US. When we were members, we were at least equal to our peers within the union (in fact a bit better than that because we truly were among the top influential powers within the EU). Now, we're hoping we won't get crushed in trade wars and other wars that keep raging. We cannot thrive in a completely autonomous manner. No country does, not even the US.

Sorry but this is my thread so slight diversion - wtf are the labour party doing right now? What a bunch of inadequate idiots. They are doing Nothing to help the electorate - who do they think they are?

Streeting's just resigned, Rayners muttering about how she's sorted her tax dodging status so eligible for what, burnham is in london (not that unusual but it's coincidental). What a mess. I knew labour would be bad but I never imagined they'd be this catastrophic, and incompetent. Grubby ambitious little people.

You'd think after their local election drubbing, they'd regather and come up for air united, telling the electorate how they will sort their mess out. Instead they are doing the opposite.

Still, good news for KB.

Thanks. Last time I heard 'wibble' was on Blackadder I think, when he was pretending to be mad (catch 22 etc). Anyway, 'wibblings' fits well with bella pasta.

Yes that’s true but it always seems to be a reaction to right wing supporters - though I’m happy to be corrected on this and I know Brexit wasn’t voted for exclusively by the right.

I think this view is quite widespread. I’ve seen on mn a number of times after Brexit and when right wingers parties do well, posts saying voters should have to pass a test before they are allowed to vote. It’s remarkable how few posters object.
InstantlyBella said that there should be no more secret ballots, eg how people vote would be made public. I realise she was probably taking the pee but there wasn’t that much pushback.

I know not everyone from a working class background votes for right wing parties but I have to ask, what exactly are you and people like you doing to stop people from your fellow council estates voting for these charlatans?
