Animal cruelty - lack of support on threads

theyhavenovoice · 23/04/2026 00:31

so am posting here because I’ve tried on other threads ( keep getting moved). In light of the last few days and what we’re learning. Testing on animals/ Beagles in the UK. I’m feeling heartbroken and have been so unaware. Anyone else?

it is absolutely horrendous. What is your alternative? the pharma industry is working very hard to get away from the (hugely expensive and highly regulated) testing on animals model.

In the meantime, it will carry on. What is the alternative?

😱😱😱😱 I don't believe it is ever ever justified, EVER.

This in absolute fucking spades.

I think a lack of traction is partly due to the fact that there are far, far worse things going on in the world at the moment. Plus people might not think the same as you - I don’t like animal cruelty for the sake of it but I’m not against it when life saving drugs or operating procedures are being tested.

People can care about all kinds of things. How is animal cruelty NOT absolutely horrendous?

I have to agree. Many millions of us would not be here now had life saving drugs first not been tested on animals.

But using animals for testing for make up/shampoo is a no no.

AngryHerring · 23/04/2026 10:14

ok but what do you want us to do?

theyhavenovoice · 23/04/2026 10:14

I didn’t post that image. I’m very aware for some (including myself) it’s very distressing.

Being more descriptive moves the thread it seems.
Ultimately I’ve got people talking about it more on AIBU so I don’t care about some of your arsey comments.

My posts were previously moved because the links and comments alluded to campaigns / petitions. the Daily Mail article was taken from public view very quickly.

Thank you to those who are being thoughtful in responding.

They’ve filmed undercover footage. It’s the same in US and MBR acres ( Beagles farms) recently. It is horrific and cruel and I don’t believe people working in this industry are doing their best as REDWINECUPCAKES suggests.

Exactly that.

I had not seen this image. (Or the news generally as I avoid it) And I genuinely have had a little cry upon seeing it. His poor face, the little cute legs being restrained, his fear, his helplessness at what is about to be done to him 💔

However, I thank the poster for posting it and bringing up to my attention because ignoring doesnt mean it isnt happening.

I have text a few friends about this just now.

OK so you have shared that image among your friends.

What is the end game her? are you exhorting all your friends to stop using all modern pharmaceuticals? to distress them? What is the actual reason?

I'm ok seeing pictures, i am ok seeing pictures of battery hens tbh because i don't use them and i hope it persuades others like me not to buy caged eggs.

But what about the pharmaceuticals? i have asthma. I use an inhaler. I know how it was tested. What do you think pictures of the apes do apart from wanting to make me feel guilty about using my puffer to stay alive? Do you want your diabetic friends to stop using their drugs? what is the intention?

AngryHerring · 23/04/2026 10:10

Dinosnorous · 23/04/2026 09:57

if you are happy for your drugs to be tested on animals you should be prepared to look at the consequences.

I personally am ok with it. But there are several people on this thread who really didn't want to see those things.

The point pp was making "they are so like us" is the very reason the primates are used in testing. I wish it wasn't so, but what do we do instead? Test on people? who? are you going to volunteer?

EveryKneeShallBow · 23/04/2026 10:07

I and I suspect many people are alive due to drugs tested on animals. It’s naive to look the other way and say la la la, I won’t look.

I just can’t bear to read anything about animal cruelty and I admit I hide threads and and turn the tv over when those awful RSPCA adverts appear, I know it’s cowardly but the images haunt me and I find it really distressing, I try to help animals as much as I can in real life and volunteer for an animal charity, others may feel similar and maybe that’s why they don’t get traction because it’s just so awful?

I agree with this. If I see anything animal cruelty related, I can spiral so fast if I’m in the wrong head space, it’s awful.

I try my best to support cruelty free. I feel like a coward that I can’t do more because I’ve tried, and failed to watch videos miserably. I even had to exit the cinema and cried like a baby in the toilets at the last guardians of the galaxy film. I’m not think sensitive to anything else.

Guessing you have been reading that frothing Daily Mail article targeted at guilt tripping women using WLI.

All drugs are tested on animals, they have to be or they cannot be licensed.

Most people who work in the labs testing new pharmaceuticals are extremely caring and compassionate towards the animals that are used. They recognise that suffering can be a problem and do their utmost best to minimise it and treat animals with respect and dignity. But, as long as Regulatory Agencies insist on toxicity testing in order get products approved, the pharmaceutical industry has to comply.

There is nothing new, nothing has changed to make things worse. The industry is actively working to reduce the number of animal studies.

Oh come on! Anyone that does this as a job is not in anyway caring and compassionate to animals that have absolutely no fucking choice but to abused like this. That is the exact opposite to being caring and compassionate. If you recognise a living being is suffering, you don’t continue to make them suffer.

YABVU for not putting that as a "sensitive image" - there are several posters who have already indicated distress

The simple fact is that as long as pharmaceuticals must be tested on primates before going to human trials, this is going to happen.

What do you think the alternative should be? TBH i am not keen on the WLI industry, but it really seems to be helping a lot of people. Taking a utilitarian view of this, you'd have to decide (for yourself) if you think the harm to the animals outweighs the good outcomes for WLI and not forgetting the people those drugs were developed for in the first place: people with diabetes.

As for food: in the EU at least meat packaging must indicate how the animals were kept prior to slaughter. I never buy anything under a 4 and prefer a 5. I only buy local or free range eggs and milk. It is expensive so i do that for me because i can afford it. I am not going to sneer at anyone who can't afford to be as fussy as i am about animal welfare.

This is so upsetting. Who the fuck do we humans think we are.

That poor primate - they are really not that different to us.

Those images need to be plastered everywhere

AngryHerring · 23/04/2026 09:49

what is it that you are railing against exactly?
The only testing on animals in the UK is tightly regulated and while it is obviously awful for the individual animals, it doesn't happen for no reason.

But plopping an emotive, vague post like that? automatically makes you unreasonable IMO.

GentleSheep · 23/04/2026 08:12

I know which thread you mean OP - re weight loss injections. Animal experimentation is truly awful, I agree. Unfortunately some life-saving medicines have only come about through this practice but I don't condone it.

ALL medications have been tested on animals. So if you feel that strongly about it, then don't use any drugs. Not even paracetamol.

Howmanycatsistoomany · 23/04/2026 09:42

january1244 · 23/04/2026 08:42

But there are alternatives now, more expensive and more training in personnel, but until there’s pressure I guess drugs companies will keep the status quo

Non-animal testing methods can provide a complementary approach to traditional animal testing but they cannot replace it entirely.

LappingLouisa · 23/04/2026 08:09

I can’t even open that link OP because it will upset too much, but then I feel the same about intensive factory farming where we’ve created a system that prioritises 'cheap and fast' over animal welfare and health - just to produce low-quality meat that a lot of the time ends up in cheap UPF. What those poor animals go through just to end up in a wrapper on a supermarket shelf.

Pepperedpickles · 23/04/2026 07:58

LastHotel · 23/04/2026 07:48

What are you talking about? What “last few days”? What are we “learning”? I read and watch and listen to the news every day and I don’t know what you mean.

I suspect it’s related to the testing on monkeys etc related to weight loss jabs. There’s been a lot of stuff in the news about it and many threads here about it.
