To think no one can SERIOUSLY want Starmer to go now, it’s media created instability designed to damage the UK.

trump, wars, Israel invading Lebanon, US mid terms…….

it would mental for Starmer to go and it’s a trap.

yabu - of course Starmer has to go, despite what is happening in the world right now.

yanbu - time to move on and deal with trump and the blatant manipulation of the media by Russia, right wing billionaire interests.

I voted YABU because there are hoards of people that want him to go. Posts on here all day every day. Papers are dominated with it. Because of this, before this - they just want him out.

But I’m with you, it would be utter madness for him to go now.

Um the truly truly terrible and corrupt government that was the Tory party under Theresa, Boris, Rishi and Liz, and god I can’t even remember the last one.

David Cameron the eton cockhead who gave us Brexit, with his stupid yes / no choice. Not even requiring a 60% yes or ‘don’t know option’. then he fucked off back to the Cotswolds and his millionaire friends.

urgh

People will just have a similarly scathing list for Labour when they get voted out.

If the right wing media are as powerful as you think, how do you explain Labour being elected?

I don't know about heaven, but Parliamentary rules forbid it. Or Labour party rules. Or both.

Diane Abbot it starting to look like the best of them!

Heaven forbid.

Echobelly · 19/04/2026 17:28

I agree, it's overblown - Starmer is crap in many ways, but it seems ridiculous when parts of the media are all 'This government is in CHAOS!' 'Starmer's Labour is in TOTAL DISARRAY!' 'Britain is FALLING APART BECAUSE OF STARMER' They're just trying to blow everything up and yes, I think there are many unfriendly forces that want to see our government being as unstable as possible. So while I don't like him much, I think it's better to stick with one PM then to get in a revolving door situation like the last Tory government.

Op I agree with you. I’m fed up of the witch-hunt that the UK media is determined to pursue. It’s pathetic, and causes more division in this country than any political party or ideology (well, apart from that of Reform).

Calling for his resignation is going to achieve nothing more than further instability. Whether the media and the right wing haters like it or not, Labour are in power for the next few years. There is no other Labour MP demonstrating capability of the job right now, so perhaps everyone should just grow up a bit and be a little less determined to distract him from getting on with it.

I didn’t vote Labour, BTW. I know the party is far from perfect. But I also think we need to learn from what the instability of the last govt has done to us.

It isn’t just the media and the “right wing haters” who want him gone, many MPs in the Labour Party are plotting his exit.

I may be wrong, but I am getting strong vibes that you dislike Starmer a wee bit. Just a wee bit.

He’s not my favourite politician of the moment. But I take some comfort in the virtually certain fact that I dislike him less than his cabinet colleagues do.

Anyway, as to the thread subject, it’s not easy to think of a politician less suited to lead us in turbulent times than Starmer. I’d put him ahead of Farage, Lowe and that Labour MP whose political mission is to encourage sales of vibrators. But I’m at a loss after that.

True. But Starmer’s not far off. There are three telling things about Starmer’s near divinity.

One is that he shoulders responsibility without a moment’s thought. You know implicitly that the buck stops with him. No ifs, no buts.

Another is that he’s an evangelist: he’s always called for his opponents to live up to the lofty standards that he espouses.

But most of all, he’s a humble servant. He’s so not interested in protecting his own interests. Wouldn’t brief against or block any rival. And he’s certainly not in it for specs, suits or football tickets.

There’s no cowardice or backstabbing with Starmer. And absolutely no hypocrisy. Totally reliable.

At least 75% Christ-like IMO.

Well OP, I can certainly see why you’d want to hang on to Starmer for now.

He’s a strong public speaker who mesmerises his audiences with his language and his persuasive voice, a powerful personality who never bends to any dissent from within his party, a man who’s always on top of all the facts, a straight-talker who answers every question directly with complete honesty, a selfless monk-like figure who’d never take freebies, and someone with razor sharp judgement who’d never promote any minister who then had to resign or any civil servant he then felt obliged to sack or anyone unfit for huge diplomatic responsibility.

Yes, all round a safe pair of hands. Just the sort of sound chap we need in difficult times.

Some on here will think you’re being serious!

I think you would be hard pushed to find any PM in history who would live up to all that! Maybe if Jesus makes a return visit...

You clearly have no idea what communism actually means. Both Streeting and Rayner are soft left, as is Burnham. The entire party is significantly further right than even Blair’s government.

The last Budget was the most left wing Budget in British history

TeenLifeMum · 19/04/2026 13:51

I’m not a Labour supporter but agree the media are trying to create a bit of drama. Keir is a steady hand with enough respect in Europe and very low drama. Getting him out will destabilise the country. I really don’t want Angela Raynor in charge or Reform!

Noodles1234 · 19/04/2026 13:47

This.

I have never and probably will never vote Labour, but right now we need someone like Kier Starmer in charge. He is level headed and calm, Tony Blair would have marched us alongside Trump (his quote was “if America ask you follow”). I loved Boris but he did love a war. Once Iran has calmed down for a while then fine, get him to answer questions, just not now.

Send KC3 over there to Trump, I think quite possibly the only person on this earth that has a chance of Trump listening to amd taking in at some point.

Badbadbunny · 19/04/2026 12:55

@FancyBiscuitsLevel

if the public didn’t want Starmer to be the PM they shouldn’t have voted Labour last election. You’ll get a chance to pick someone else next time.

The majority voted for parties other than Labour. In fact Starmer only got a slightly higher vote than Corbyn 5 years earlier when Johnson got his landslide victory. Labour got in by the back door because the Tory support crumbled, not because people wanted Labour/Starmer.

TBH I think the right wing media are so desperate to get someone in who will allow their owners to keep hoovering up money while the rest of us starve that they would call for his resignation if he farted in a lift.

If the right wing media are as powerful as you think, how do you explain Labour being elected?

I know exactly why communism is. Studied political history extensively at degree and post graduate level.

I am genuinely terrified of what the left are doing and will do to this country.

If you mean the Greens, they are utterly barking
