AIBU, Is my neighbour a CF?

Earlier this week my NDN knocked on our door to advise he was having some landscaping work done, and the workers would be spraying the garden with weedkiller. We have a cat that sometimes goes in the garden so he was letting us know so we could keep cat indoors.

I came home from work today to find a portaloo with the landscapers name on, on my land right up against my house. We are detached and have a strip of lawn between our houses then I have some paving (basically a path that goes nowhere) and a fence with no gate, as our access is at other side. The portaloo is sited on my side, and gives easy access to their gate so the workers can get in and out.

I'm rather bemused, if I was going to contract a company who were bringing their own loo:
A) I would find somewhere on my own plot to put it
B) if a) was not possible I would approach my neighbours and ask them very nicely if I could put a loo on their land

AIBU to expect that people don't put toilets on other people's land? Are my neighbours CF?

They have a three car wide drive and only one car, so I suppose it could have gone there. It may be perfectly sensible for access for contractors but it's still my land, and not my problem to resolve where they should put their portaloo

Yeah, this is the thing, it is quite a logical place, and in the interests of neighbourly relations I would be ok with it being there, in the hope (and expectation) that the courtesy is repaid at some point down the line if we needed a similar type of favour.

HOWEVER, they absolutely should have asked first.

it’s the fact that it just appeared and they have not acknowledged it which is just not appropriate.

Neighbours sound reasonable (the card and wine and courtesy about the cat), but if the loo goes unremarked upon there’s a chance they might then start taking the piss going forwards. Hopefully not.

So you don’t necessarily want to make them move it, but I think you do need to say something.

“Hello, how’s the work going? I was surprised to see the portaloo on my driveway. Did you know it was going to be there?”

….and then take it from there.

Peony1985 · 18/04/2026 09:27

Maybe the NDN thought the gardeners had checked or perhaps thought that it wouldn’t bother you seeing as that bit isn’t used or overlooked.
They were nice to let you know to keep the cat in. Does your cat ever use their garden as a toilet I wonder.

PrettyDamnCosmic · 18/04/2026 09:26

Call the company the portals belongs to and say that someone’s dumped it.
Ring the company and tell them to move it from your property.

It's Saturday morning. Do you think anyone will be in the office to answer the phone today?

I’d play dumb. Call the company the portals belongs to and say that someone’s dumped it. Probably drunk students or something. Ask them to come and collect it. (Then if your cf neighbours want it back then it will cost them.)

I was about to suggest the same! Only I’d tell the company it must have been delivered by mistake because students wouldn’t bother to move a portaloo. If your neighbours complain, keep up the lie - you assumed it was delivered by mistake because no one spoke to you about it.

The company should come and get it promptly because there’s money in it for them; either to re-deliver/move it or to hire it out to someone else.

moose62 · 18/04/2026 09:24

Ring the company and tell them to move it from your property. Then speak to your NDN and tell them you have asked the company to move it as it is on your property and you don't want it there!
Why are you even thinking about it?

Shinyandnew1 · 18/04/2026 09:22

The fact that the neighbour came round to speak to you about the spraying suggests that he isn’t a total arse and hopefully he hasn’t done this on purpose and will be reasonable. It’s odd though that presumably they’d have seen where it is by now and he hasn’t been round to speak to you though ?!

Good luck with going round there. 9.30 seems a reasonable time!

Whilst the contractors should have asked if they could put it there, it is a logical location so the tools and clear passage for work can take place.
What other places could the toilet be placed on neighbours land that you can suggest it's moved too.
I personally wouldn't be bothered as I know it would only be short term whilst work takes place however I would speak to the contractor to state the area around the toilet is to be cleaned when the toilet is removed

Tell the cheeky cunt faces to bog off with their smelly portaloo. Grin

AlongtheWall · 18/04/2026 08:24

I was going to ask a similar question to pp, have the contractors put it in the only place that is flat, stable clear of obstacles and not affected by the actual works? They should have checked if ok with you though.

OneFunBrickNewt · 18/04/2026 08:16

Builder probably made an error.
Ask them to move it.

YABU to post it on MN. Sort it out yourself like an adult before the internet.

Are you new to MN? If everyone sorted things out outside of MN the forum would close 🤣

OP I hope they're early risers and you can go round soon.

rosiebr · 18/04/2026 08:00

They are relatively lightweight, I would just shove it back over onto their land and tell them not to move it back.

The portaloo has the name of the landscaping company on, not 'Barry's Bogs' or similar, which is how I know it's theirs. I suppose in a strange parallel universe it could be someone else's portaloo! There's only 6 houses on the cul de sac at the end of our road and we have fields opposite so no more neighbours.

Ring the landscaping firm then. Excuse me, you’ve parked a bog on my land. Please remove it.

Is there actually anywhere else it could go though. If they put it on the neighbours drive presumably that means your NDN will park on the road - is that more or less annoying manoeuvring past?

Someone absolutely should have asked you. Maybe the ndn assumed the gardeners had.

Nsky62 · 18/04/2026 07:45

Bluegreenbird · 17/04/2026 21:37

Neighbours may have had no idea they were going to put it there. Do you care?

Of course she cares

Anewuser · 18/04/2026 07:44

How would you know who the portaloo belonged to if your neighbour hadn’t said they would having work done?

As PP says. Feign ignorance and ring the number on the portaloo saying the loo has been delivered to the wrong address.

Peony1985 · 18/04/2026 07:42

ToastSoldiers · 17/04/2026 22:37

Yes, because she’s written a post about it.

I think the poster meant the actual toilet itself, rather than the entailment of sticking it on her land.

MyDeftDuck · 18/04/2026 07:40

Personally, I would be contacting the contractors to get it removed……usually, they are supplied by a portable loo company, not the contractor doing the construction work……..telling them they’ve left a unit at the wrong location.

Then I would be telling the neighbour that the portable loo HIS contractor had booked had been put in the wrong place and his workmen should NOT use it on your land under any circumstances! CF overload!!!!

Duvetdayneeded · 18/04/2026 07:38

Definitely get it moved. They can smell to high heaven, even with a little bit of sun! What a cf they are!

tobermoryisthebestwomble · 18/04/2026 07:30

rwalker · 18/04/2026 05:17

if you bothered about the smell moving it a couple of feet on to there land will make zero difference
from your diagram it not obviously land as presume there’s no fence for them to be able to put it there
they sound good neighbours I wouldn’t bother

It really obviously is our land. It is touching my house and on the other side of the fence where the portaloo has been placed is my kitchen door.

Thanks for the responses, and don't worry, I'll try and keep it to the one thread, unless there is a blowtorch-related accident.

I'm going to go round to NDN as soon as it is a reasonable time. My starting point is that human beings are essentially reasonable and we've had no issues with them at all previously.

I'd only heard "Cheeky Fucker" on MN.
The expression I've always known is "Cluster Fuck", which, of course is used to describe a chaotic event, or outcome, but can also be applied to a particularly scattered person who embodies chaos.

I really like the definition, "Cunt Face" submitted by @Legoleopard Is that Scottish origin, by chance?

And "Crumpet Fucker" really gets a dig in!
Well done American uni friend of @Caniweartheseones ! 👏
