This isn’t an airport , you don’t need to announce your departure

Love it.

Op I’ve read some very measured, helpful and lovely posts and comments here recently, Id say look for more lighthearted ones!

Ah okay so perhaps the OP posted so that people would persuade her not to leave!

Blueuggboots · 16/04/2026 07:43

As others have probably said…this is not an airport. You do not need to announce your departure….

Im amazed at how seriously people take this or any site that are chat forums

They're entertainment, chats, thats all. Nice to look at while having a cuppa.

Ii agree there is a lot of racism and Islamophobia. There are good people who do challenge them but sometimes the racists are overwhelming.

MNHQ obviously are quick to delete any obvious racist posts but a lot of dog whistle posts are left to stand.l because they don’t explicitly break forum guidelines.

youalright · 16/04/2026 07:35

Its social media don't take it so seriously, if it hurts your feelings and effects your real life then absolutely leave. But know that about 75% of what you read online here or any social media isn't real.

lightand · 16/04/2026 07:33

PollyPeep · 15/04/2026 23:06

You only have to look at the responses on here!

Agreed.

But I have learnt it is the same on any social media forum.

I take myself off the internet for about 3 days from time to time.
Come back and see how I feel.

This forum is no longer my main one.
But partly because I have outgrown it.

I’ve been around on here since 2010 and occasionally take longish breaks for my wellbeing. I’ve recently returned and am genuinely shocked at the online bullying, smart-assery and outright aggression & hostility of so many responses / posters. I’m really saddened people now feel they can talk to others in this caustic and heartless way.

I know I can be a bit frustrated and blunt sometimes but the nastiness and casual aggression I see / have been subject to is wild, compared to how people on here used to interact with each other.

It can make the difference between just about coping, and not coping.

I even feel nervous about posting this tbh, as I’m genuinely prepared for some nasty, hurtful and aggressive responses such as the OP has received on this thread. I’m feeling very traumatised from work tonight, and vulnerable in my own severe MH challenges, and aware that opening myself up for the really awful, snide, sarcastic ā€œyou do youā€ and ā€œgo awayā€ and ā€œbore offā€ and ā€œwhateverā€ and nasty emojis will probably make the difference to me tonight between going to bed feeling head and going to bed feeling woeful.

This is just my own experience / thoughts tho, please don’t shoot me down for sharing them šŸ™šŸ»

Edited

I agree, it’s not a nice place anymore and I used to find it far kinder, reasonable and more supportive

I agree with you op. I’ve taken very long breaks from Mumsnet for this reason, but I always find myself returning. I continue to be appalled however at the barrage of negativity that litters the vast majority of chats.

Thank goodness you found something positive to say šŸ˜

What is a flouncers board and why didn't I know about it before?

Is it because I hath not flounced? šŸ¤”

No doubt you will get told this isn’t the place for you or you should get off social media. It’s them that need reminding that their online persona isn’t actually reality. They don’t get to come online and act billy big bx because they don’t have the chest to do it in their everyday life. Some of these need bringing down a peg or 2. No wonder there’s so many awful kids in the world when they are offspring to racists and bullies

ā€œYou have sat too long here for any good you have been doing lately... In the name of God, go!".

ReduceOffer · 16/04/2026 05:51

There is nothing wrong with commenting on the unnecessary, almost gratuitous unpleasantness that sometimes appears on here.

But if you do, you will always get this kind of sarcastic and weirdly defensive responses, and the ā€˜bye šŸ‘‹-type answers, as you have seen here. Nobody really wants to reflect and change their style. And social media is a bit of a cesspit.

For me, the good outweighs the bad. I just roll my eyes at the nasty stuff, and wonder at the desperation to make the OPs feel bad on threads. There are many decent responses too, and lots of boards to choose from. And I am old enough to have a thick skin.

I don’t think people have to be ā€˜kind’ and nice all the time. But many people seem to be horrid to the sake of it. Maybe it gives them a kick? I don’t know.

PollyPeep · 15/04/2026 23:05

No but genuinely, this site is bad for my mental health. I left for a few months and I felt happier and calmer. Started coming back and instantly felt negative and stressed. There's always someone complaining that everything is awful 🄱

They why,and I mean this nicely, are you here? If not being on here makes you feel better, why be here?

Zanatdy · 16/04/2026 05:09

You’re not wrong to point out how toxic it’s become on here. It’s the worse i’ve seen it.

LondonMumo23 · 16/04/2026 05:02

This is sad to read. There are some toxic threads and users for sure but for me this has ended up being a hugely unjudgementsl forum for support. As a brown woman I’m sad to say racists are everywhere but I’ve managed to avoid them (mostly) on here. Maybe I’m wrong tho! Xx

LondonRidge · 16/04/2026 04:51

Mumsnet is not an airport lounge, you don’t need to announce your departure.

MaraladeorJam · 16/04/2026 02:50

I have been here for twenty odd years.

I agree with you that there has been a shift -- there used to be so many witty people, and humor was often the order of the day.

Now, there is condesention, snobbism and just plain meanness.

I think that there is a lot of paid activism now actually - you see it on the FWR, the Royal threads (especially anything to do with the Sussex Two), and Middle East.

It is a pity. It was great to have collective wisdom and wit. It was not always sugar coated but it was not nasty like it is now.

Slightly hoping I might strike a chord with some of the regulars (you know who you are) who are so full of self righteousness, believe they know absolutely everything and have to have the last word. Some of these posters will argue about when your next cycle is. They just love to argue.

I know nothing about your periods! Well, except that you have them, because you've just told us. Are you trying to get pregnant, OP? (comment about evap lines) I know nothing about your sex life either, but hope you'll have been satisfactorily shagged by the time you come back to this thread full of posts about why you're not posting here any more. Try lying on your back with your legs up after sex. Doesn't make any difference, but some suckers are still paying for research to find out if it does.

See, I don't claim to know everything but I do know some things about several things. Did I get the last word??
