In a man:
Muscles
Height (sorry)
Aura - are they strong or weak?

I think straight men notice:
Skin (does it have that dewy look)
Shape
How much you care for yourself (manicure, hair, etc)

Impossiblyme · 10/04/2026 13:35

OP you’re so wrong.

Men don’t care about “dewey” skin or fingernails. They literally couldn’t give a toss.

It’s boobs, body shape, a nice smile and being approachable/friendly, but not too loud and garish. It’s not let me down so far!

MidnightMeltdown · 10/04/2026 13:35

As I’ve got older, I’ve realised that men notice clothing a lot more than I ever thought too. In my 20s I tended by shop cheap fashion brands, and when I got into my 30s, I got more picky and started buying higher end and putting more effort into outfits. I expected women to notice, but I was truly shocked by the number of compliments that I got from men. Prior to this, I honestly thought that men didn’t really notice what women wore (unless it was something tight and revealing).

I am nobody's type 😭

I'm scruffy (I do try to look nice though!), short, a bit chubby and I get excited over cloud formations and planes 😂

You sound nice whether you're male OR female. 😍

KimberleyClark · 10/04/2026 13:29

Intellectual curiosity
Kindness and empathy
Humour

Blueyrocks · 10/04/2026 13:28

Ooh, for me, in all honesty because it's anonymous, what I find attractive in men is:
Height - nothing silly, but 5'10 + please.
Build - strong and broad. IRL, that basically means I don't find skinny men remotely attractive. But I also don't find fat attractive. There's a fairly wide range, but it has definite limits on either side! Drives me wild when I see DH lift something heavy, oh my...

Eyes and hair I'm not fussy. I like decisiveness and competence, like a feeling that he can take control and sort it out (it being pretty much anything - broken dishwasher, puking toddler, missed flights, sad PMS-y wife etc etc).

I like tattoos but don't require them. He has to be funny and generous, and have interests/ hobbies that aren't phone or watching sports. And has to be sufficiently sized (which doesn't mean silly big, just, you know, at least bit of a mouthful so to speak 😂) and know what he's doing.

Lucky me, DH ticks all the boxes.

I have no idea what men find attractive. I'm guessing slim, good shaped boobs and bum, long hair, ready to laugh, enthusiastic about sex, and not grabby?

Slightyamusedandsilly · 10/04/2026 13:27

I like in a man:

  1. Intelligence
  2. A reader
  3. Socialism
  4. Facial hair
  5. Not obsessed with his appearance but is clean and hygienic, smells nice
  6. Keeps his own house clean and has no expectation of my getting involved in that
  7. Can cook

Men like in women:

  1. Slim OR sexy
  2. Pretty
  3. Long hair
  4. Job that doesn't over shadow their job
  5. Some money but not more money than the bloke
  6. No children

Basically, I'm not fussed about appearance or height in a man as long as he's clean, solvent and a fully functional adult. But I'm pretty sure most men want an attractive woman who won't out earn/over shadow them and is at least a little submissive although maybe not as much as dude bros want us to be.

My husband is a builder and not academic at all. He absolutely loves that I'm more intelligent than him. Apparently that was one of the reasons he was attracted to me. I think it's a certain type of man who is basically scared of an intelligent woman. My ex was like this. The fact that I was way smarter than him pissed him off no end. One of the reasons he frequently beat the shit out of me I'm sure

I agree. I think insecure men are put off by intelligent women. I’m glad you found someone who values you for “you” and I’m sorry your first partner was a shit.
I am definitely more intelligent in an academic way than DH is, but he has other smarts that I don’t. So
we compliment each other.
Physical attributes I like in a man are being taller than me and having nice eyes with dark, visible lashes
A deal breaker would be small piggy hands 😆

YerMotherWasAHamster · 10/04/2026 13:26

What I love is an intelligent man with a good sense of humour, who's kind and gentle but has really strong hands and kind of looks like he'd throw you onto the bed. His eyes twinkle when he grins and I get goosebumps when he whispers in my ear.

I dont know what men like. I assume its as varied as what women like.

Holymolyrigmorole · 10/04/2026 13:23

In a man, I’m physically attracted to

broad shoulders, narrow waist and hips

eyes that can speak

a freely given smile

strong hands

clothes that fit

Other attributes that make me go weak at the knees:

academic and emotional intelligence

acts of service towards me and others

a large community of decent long-standing friends both male and female

Creative/artistic - plays instruments, writes, that sort of thing

Things that men have said they find attractive about me

my shoulders to waist proportions

naughty eyes

big smile, huge laugh

party-vibes

big brown eyes & curly brown hair

Bum

appetite for life

intelligence and seniority at work

confidence

Freckles

manateeplushie · 10/04/2026 13:22

Physically - I like a nice back. Chests, muscles, arms etc. do very little but I melt when a man has a shapely back and shoulders (a nice bum helps as well!)

I also won't glance at a man over 6ft, shorties only!

MidnightMeltdown · 10/04/2026 13:17

In a man I like:

  1. Decent sized shoulders (I’m less fussed about height (as long as they’re not smaller than me), but small shoulders is a deal breaker for me)
  2. A good jaw (no round chubby faces)
  3. A nice mouth (as shallow as it might sound, I’ve been put off some lovely men by their mouth. I just couldn’t imagine kissing it!).

I don’t really know what men look for, but they often compliment me on my hair, which is long and thick, so I guess that they must at least notice that. I think they also look at body shape and proportions (boobs, hips, waist, bum etc).

NorthernJim · 10/04/2026 13:16

As a man, I don't tend to notice skin, unless it really leathery and over UV exposed and makes you look older than your years. I notice a woman's shape, but to me it's not really a yardstick for attractiveness, I'm attracted to lots of different body shapes, except maybe the extreme ones. No interest in manicures or salon fresh hair, or over groomed/perfect presentation. If anything I find that slightly off putting/intimidating. Long, pointy nails look like talons and are somewhat terrifying!

It's taken me til my mid 40's to realise it, but I'm a sucker for blue eyes. Not saying I don't find women with other eye colours attractive, but for me having blue eyes is a trump card.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 10/04/2026 13:10

I find nice eyes, good smile, kind nature very attractive.
My DH is 6’1 dark, handsome and overweight.
He wasn’t my type when we met, I used to be attracted to 5’8 men, good arms, not muscular, cheeky chaps but they were mostly dickheads.

Wipeywipey · 10/04/2026 13:10

Intelligence, ability to laugh when women are funny, ability to put aside ego and listen rather than assume criticism is a battle commencing.

I personally don't like bald men or men with excessive body hair, but some women are drawn to these like moths to a flame, so your responses will be wide and varying!

Men I don't think are too picky, even the ones who like the barbie doll look would bang something over a size 12/flat chested/brunette if they got a chance I suspect. Men are more visual however, so having a personality is usually not a prerequisite.

I like a man who is " practical" Find someone doing physical work such as carpentry, city etc much sexier than a suited bod at a computer

As for physical attributes no beard and not skinny Oh and hairy chest

Edited

Are you me? I married a clean shaven, bald but very hairy bodied builder. Seeing him all filthy in orange hi Vis still makes me weak at the knees🤭 oh and he's definitely not skinny either

RaininSummer · 10/04/2026 13:04

In a man... Strong , dependable and with a good sense of humour in line with mine
Valued by a man... Nice smile, independent, trustworthy

cupfinalchaos · 10/04/2026 13:04

It used to be all about looks fo me, height etc.. but now (I’m old now) it’s all about intelligence and the mind.

Physical: I like a ‘man mountain’. 😁

Non-physical: Kindness and generosity. And oh if he’s practical and able to ‘do stuff’, bonus points.

A man mountain 😄 - hard agree

I really don’t think many men notice manicures at all…

I have found lots of men hate intelligence. They don’t want a smart woman who can call them out, stand on her own two feet, defend herself, squash them in an argument. This is not all men by any means, academic men tend to prefer the company of academic women. But yes, I think a lot of men prefer a less intelligent woman or at least one who acts the part…

My partner is nuts in many ways but is also:

  • tall
  • incredibly clever
  • hairy
  • well endowed
  • kind
  • a lovely singer
  • sexy
  • in possession of sparking blue green eyes and curly dark hair.

He's ruined other men for me.
