Man jailed for stealing handbag that contained £2.2m Fabergé egg - BBC News

To wonder why anyone would take a Fabergé egg with them to the pub? Obviously it was a horrendous crime for the man to take the bag and he deserves to go to prison, but what would possess someone to take a bag containing such a valuable artifact to a pub, in Soho no less?

Insane

Although we arent talking your local pub, it was in Central London 😄

Still, if youre placing a bag containing a fabrige egg on the floor, you do need to give your head a wobble sorry

Imagine stealing something and expecting to pick up cash, perhaps a ton, if you’re lucky. Then finding you’re stuck with a Fabergé egg. That would just be a nuisance, wouldn’t it? Not something you could get rid of easily. Nightmare.

No, but he clearly sold it on somewhere and it hasn’t been recovered!

Many questions! Wtf was she doing standing outside, the bag between her feet? Why not take the damn thing home safely?

Why did insurance only pay out £106k if the egg was worth £2m?

Was she sacked?

insanity!

I find it very hard to believe that someone entrusted to look after such valuable items could also be so utterly stupid.

Datgal · 09/04/2026 23:19

I couldn't stop laughing at this. Utterly bonkers

Opportunist....but ends up with a faberge egg...?
mind boggling

driftingdownintomiami · 09/04/2026 23:17

I was so surprised she was still employed, gross misconduct straight off, surely.

Myfridgeiscool · 09/04/2026 23:15

It’s bonkers isn’t it. Leave it at home, probably best in a safe; it’s not a very pretty Faberge egg!

Artesia · 09/04/2026 23:14

Never go out without mine

CalmTheFuckDownMargaret · 09/04/2026 23:14

Beyond daft. Ridiculously careless given the value of it. Who on earth takes an object that valuable to a pub, and why was there no security procedure etc agreed and adhered to?

Croakymccroakyvoice · 09/04/2026 23:11

It's like something from a comedy/crime/drama movie isn't it!

The mind boggles.
