my boyfriend just sent me this photo of himself, but why does it have a heart at the bottom?

He hasn’t, it’s because you’ve clicked on the image to enlarge it and it’s showing the OP’s original post with the image underneath the enlarged image.
So from what you can see, both images will have OP’s boyfriend blocked out with the large white box, that’s OP blocking him out for Mumsnet, he wouldn’t have screenshotted blocking himself out and sending a selfie of his arm.

I absolutely stand corrected, can’t believe I missed that!

in that case, there is literally nothing to see here 😂

Is that an arm?

😂😂😂

What’s the forwarded symbol for then at the side OP? Did it look like that when you got it in which case its been forwarded to you?

In fb messenger I see that arrow and it throws me overtime, it looks forwarded but it just shows I've sent the photo (not forwarded - one I just took). Now I’m going to have to look at all my other messaging apps to see how they look 🤯🙄

Fends · 08/04/2026 21:24

I love the self righteous poster coming on to explain how great she is at tech. And getting it completely fucking wrong 😂

The heart is a caption he added before sending the OP a photo of his presumably naked body. Thank you for covering it with a fridge OP. I think the volume is hers, from when the OP screenshotted it to share on here.

And apps have slightly different versions depending on your phone. iPhones are different to android so we will have our arrows for forwarding in slightly different places or other features depending on our phone and even whether we’ve got the same version updated.

Note that there is then a heart underneath, so two hearts total. The first heart is part of the screenshot where he had sent the message to someone else. The second heart is then included in the message he had sent to OP.

he has sent you a screenshot of an image he had sent to someone else. In that message he put a heart emoji with the photo too.

Has anyone gone to help him? It looks like he’s trapped his willy in the fridge door 🙈

It's been the hottest day of the year so far. This was bound to happen.

That’s exactly what it is.

There are so many people on here who aren’t clued up on social media. So frustrating.

What he’s done:

He’s sent a screenshot to you via WhatsApp. That’s all obvious.

The screenshot shows:

Boyfriend (BF) receiving a message from Unknown person (UP). If he sent it to someone else it would sit on the right side of the screen, not the left.

UP has sent a picture of BF, to BF. Followed by a heart emoji. On what looks like Instagram DM, Facebook Messenger or iMessage.

BF has then screenshotted this. And sent it to you on WhatsApp.

Shut up. This is a picture the BF has sent the OP and has captioned it with a heart. As in, he added the heart with the picture. It’s on the left because he sent it to her. She’s receiving it.

AnonSugar · 08/04/2026 20:48

Meant to quote a poster.

PinkCrab · 08/04/2026 20:32

L0bstersLass · 08/04/2026 18:33

It really isn't. He's sent her a picture and added the heart emoji as his message. The heart is not a reaction, it's the message.

Note that there is then a heart underneath, so two hearts total. The first heart is part of the screenshot where he had sent the message to someone else. The second heart is then included in the message he had sent to OP.

Looks like a banister. What is the photo actually of?

I hope so!

LOL! I thought exactly the same thing!

I’ve just trialled this with my own boyfriend who is in the house with me and thinks I’m now randomly sending beef messages.
I added the heart in the message bar and it sent along with the picture.
So he’s sent it directly to you 😁

This thread has really made me laugh! Some very funny MNers!

Sidebeforeself · 08/04/2026 19:47

I wasn’t sure what I was seeing so was asking for clarification. I have absolutely no idea what her boyfriend is or isn’t up to

DrFoxtrot · 08/04/2026 19:42

@Sidebeforeselfbut why did you mention the arrow at the side in the first place then? It sounded like it was a way to prove that OP’s BF had done something shady, when in fact the photo she has provided in the OP is just a screenshot of normal WhatsApp photo that she has received from her BF.

Do you do uber eats that beef looks amazing!

DrFoxtrot · 08/04/2026 19:33

On my photo below, it is a photo my daughter took of our cat then sent to me. So the same as what OPs BF has done.
if I send a photo, or forward a photo on then the arrow it still appears at the side so I’m not sure why other people’s phones are different?

You are misunderstanding me.. The arrow appears at the bottom when you are about to forward a photo .. not after.

DrFoxtrot · 08/04/2026 19:34

Every single WhatsApp media I receive or send has the arrow at the side 🤔

I think we are talking about different things? So if I have a photo in a WhatsApp thread , I click on it and the Forward function appears below. But if Ive actually forwarded it appears at the side. If I receive a forwarded photo that also appears at the side.
