AIBU to speak out after another parent assaulted my son?

So really long story I’m summarising as best I can.

My son was assaulted in January by another parent. We were at a birthday gathering. I’ve no idea what possessed her to touch him but I didn’t realise how bad it was until the following day. I made contact with the mother who’d done it to discuss it and she basically cut me off and said “I’m the adult…!” At this point I contacted the parent on the child whose party it was and explained what had happened. I accept I was upset during that call. However now they’re casting me as the villain basically encouraging their kids to bully mine and they’re not speaking to me which I couldn’t be less bothered about but the lies they’re spreading are grating me. I always said I wouldn’t ruin another parent’s reputation to defend my own but I am getting a bit exhausted with it all…!

I have reported to police but they’ve done very little At this point.

Based on what you've said - talk to school re bullying and let the police do their work. I'm not sure what you mean by 'speaking up', but getting into it with the alleged assailant and other parents isnt wise. If someone really did grab your little boy and twist his wrist enough to show an injury on an x-ray, they are nuts and dangerous.

WallaceinAnderland · 06/04/2026 18:23

Ok, so the police are investigating. In that case leave them to it.

JustGiveMeReason · 06/04/2026 18:22

wrist, not waist

SunnyRedSnail · 06/04/2026 18:19

@Jazzyted you just need to let the police do their job.

Its not for you to start telling other people what happened as this could hinder the police work.

Why on earth was an adult grabbing a 7 year old around the waist? Some sort of game or messing around?

Honestly, the more you post the more utterly farcical it all sounds

I’m trying to anewer questions as they pop up maybe I needed more in original post.

In what context did she take hold of his wrist?

Doing it out of the blue just seems like a really, really strange choice.

Jazzyted · 06/04/2026 18:18

AintNoPunshineWhenShesGone · 06/04/2026 18:17

So there was no interaction at all?

She just randomly took it upon herself to grab his wrist?

My son had something her child wanted (it was my son’s item) he had said no to giving it up so she grabbed him.

Cross posted, sorry

feathermucker · 06/04/2026 18:17

Why did this happen as in what happened directly before?

Jazzyted · 06/04/2026 18:17

Evaka · 06/04/2026 18:14

OP, what was the nature of the assault? How old is your child? What did your child say happened in the lead up to the assault?

He is 7. He said he had something her son wanted and he’d said no. That’s the lead up nothing more, that part is also visible on the CCTV

No my child was still and the injury was from the adult grabbing him around the wrist and manipulating it. No other child was involved. I’ve watched it and the place have a portion of it on cctv. The police are doing interviews slowly because we don’t live in the area in which it occurred. He is 7

JulietteHasAGun · 06/04/2026 18:17

So why does she say she grabbed him By the wrist? With nothing else going on. Do you suspect she’s a total psychopath who likes hurting kids? Because it all sounds a bit odd…..that a parent would just do that for no reason. Obviously if that is how it happened then you’re doing the right thing getting the police involved. Is it likely to be on CCTV?

Yep

It's weird that this hasn't been stated yet in the thread....

Sorry am trying to keep up and the police used the term assault I didn’t want to go into too much detail. I’ve put it below

assaulted how? I ask because it’s unusual not to include that and if it’s a case of your child was held back off another child or grabbed to stop them from hurtinh themselves that’s very different to punching them in the face.

How old is your child?

What actually happened?

Yes, this vital piece of information seems missing from the post and follow ups.

WappityWabbit · 06/04/2026 18:12

Is this parent known to have a short fuse and be angry and violent?

I wonder whether it’s a case of the other mums being afraid of retaliation so are keeping quiet and hoping it will blow over?

Lots of people are basically cowards so won’t want to get involved. At least you now know they’re unreliable and not your friends.

KilkennyCats · 06/04/2026 18:12

Jazzyted · 06/04/2026 18:10

Very much downplayed it. As we were at an animal park I don’t know who else saw it. Police are acting just slowly - they’re collecting CCTV and statements from that staff which takes time. My son has had scans and X-rays. I knew what had happened but my son did t tell us how bad the pain was until the next day. Which was when we took him to the walk in

What actually happened?

Jazzyted · 06/04/2026 18:12

BlueMum16 · 06/04/2026 18:09

This was severe enough to need a hospital visit? X-ray AND a scan?

Yes. The following day he was in a lot of pain. They did two X-rays to check for fractures/breaks and then sent him for a scan to check for ligament damage.

OP posts:
isthesolution · 06/04/2026 18:12

So the assault was bad enough for your child to need X-rays and scans? But the police aren’t interested? What was the assault exactly and who witnessed it?

Tillow4ever · 06/04/2026 18:11

Jazzyted · 06/04/2026 18:08

No idea as I was focused on my kid being upset but I believe what I saw and I’ve seen the X-rays and scans that show inflammation and damage, I told party just so they heard it from me rather than on the grapevine as if it happened at something I’d hosted if want to know.

sorry - I was typing whilst you posted this. That’s not ok and I’m sorry this happened.
