Is this a porn addiction?

15 mins or so a day, most days.

Would you class that as a porn addiction?

If you’re worried about it, cut back a bit. You come across as eager to justify behaviour that you’re not quite at peace with. Get to the heart of what’s bothering you about your usage of porn (you’re not addicted but I wonder if you fear the downward spiral and/or your habit inhibiting your drive to find a meaningful relationship with someone).

You seem to think some exact definition of a porn addiction exists, and people can tell you whether you fit it or not, and if you don't you are fine.

Or doesn't, and they can't. All they can do is tell you whether or not they would define you as addicted. They might all have wildly differing definitions - with respect, others' opinions tell you nothing.

Your relationship with porn is what it is - comments on this thread don't change it. And something about it must have worried you enough to post....
.
I know the ethics of porn weren't the main purpose of the thread, but is it possible that the guilt you feel about potentially wanking to trafficked women being raped is what prompted your doubt and worry in the first place?

Would you be posting it you were wanking daily to an erotic novel, or a mental image or memory?

Edited

I posted it because porn addiction is a thing, and I worried that my frequent use may be viewed by lots of people as an addiction and therefore worthy of action on that front.
It turns out that it's not.
I have never heard of erotic novel addiction, and whilst people can be addicted to masturbating generally it obviously isn't the case with me. So in answer to your question, no.
I do feel guilty sometimes, but that's not why I posted.

It's not every day, it's most days. It wasn't yesterday, for example.
I suppose I could cut it back like you suggest but I don't want to and the consensus seems to be that I don't need to.

15 mins x say 5 days a week = 1 hrs 15 so x 52 = 65 hours a year. Nearly 3 days a year wanking. Time in hand literally. Still, use it or lose it!

Edited

Think of the enjoyment though not to mention health benefits, it’s got to be one of the best uses of time there is.

Yes but 260 orgasms.

That depends.

If it’s:
• Causing you to lose your erection while you’re inside your wife (Porn induced erectile dysfunction)
• Making you snappy and irritable with your wife day to day
• Making you suggest to your wife she wears more make up (but offering no support to allow her time for self care)
• Makes you scan every woman’s boobs and arse in public, no matter her age (worryingly young)
• Stops you from orgasming unless using your hand in death grip fashion
• Makes you withdraw from family and day to day life
• Ruins your body clock
• You lie about it
• Causing social anxiety
• Stops you from touching your wife in an affectionate way for months/years
• Makes you crack wildly inappropriate lewd jokes
• Makes you wonder if you’ve accidentally viewed videos of child sexual abuse material
• You’re unable to stop even when faced with divorce

Then yes. It’s an addiction. If no to all of the above, probably not, just a grim hobby.

Spoken from painful experience.

Unlikely to do several of those things in my case due to me being an unmarried woman, but sorry you went through that and are evidently not over it.

It really is. Because you can’t tell
the difference and all demand is feeding the supply. It’s easier to lie to yourself that you’re not perpetuating the problem.

I second this, but I find there's very little point in telling anyone that. As you say, everyone justifies it.

I thought you may be curious to know if you could, hence your post.

I know I can, and occasionally I do. My dad is addicted to smoking yet can manage to stop for long flights.
The issue is my regular usage. In a regular week. Of course there are some weeks that are irregular (holidays, sometimes my menstrual cycle or whatever). I think the fact that I do reduce usage sometimes proves that I could if I wanted to.

This kind of absolutism isn’t helpful and it’s not true, and also not relevant to the thread topic

You like to masturbate every day, you like to watch porn as you do so, can you manage without it, you said you can in a one week holiday? To know if you are addicted try watching it every other day or only in the weekends and see how this makes you feel.

With respect, the ethics is a separate question (as a pp has pointed out). I was just wondering whether frequency of use = a potential addiction.

No, it really isn’t. And ‘what they are watching’ could be anything from a vast spectrum of material. Some porn is absolutely horrible and exploitative. Plenty of porn is neither of those things.

Agreed , but we will be in the minority.

This is what people tell themselves to avoid having to really think about exactly what they are watching.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 06/04/2026 18:46

Porn is responsible for a large number of young people trafficked and force into sexual exploitation, they’re raped daily. Often drugged on set, vomit from deep throat between takes. It’s all so fake and seedy.

OtterlyAstounding · 06/04/2026 15:59

Personally, even with the ethics of it put aside, I just don't think it's very arousing to watch something that could be coerced, painful or uncomfortable, tedious, or outright rape. I find it a massive turn off! But I suppose some people find it easier to suspend their disbelief than others, and your OP was about addiction rather than ethics, so in that regard I think you can rest easy that you're not addicted.

Yes. Ethics is a different question but relieved that the majority view seems to be that I'm not addicted.

Yes I do think of this sometimes. And when I do, I don't like myself for using porn. It is a good point that you make. I suppose I am weak and selfish in that regard. I want an orgasm quickly and this clearly beats any desire to protect other women. I know I should be better.

Loads of people do it, it doesn't make you a terrible person....

I am hugely opposed to porn, but did end up using it a few times when I was single..... It's so easy to access, that it is very tempting.

But I try to be strict with myself now. I do find that written erotica can be a decent alternative, though I am sure it doesn't work for everyone....

Lightfittings · 06/04/2026 15:49

Ilovelurchers · 06/04/2026 15:37

It's irrelevant whether others would label it as an addiction or not.

The label won't change your relationship with porn. Which is what it is.

Personally, I don't think spending 15 minutes a day masturbating is a problem. I think it's probably indicative of a healthy libido.

BUT, the problem with porn is that you don't know whether you are wanking to an act of sexual abuse. And you are supporting the sex industry which is inextricably linked to the trafficking and abuse of women.

Could you switch to a less harmful stimulus? Written erotica, for example?
