AIBU for blowing out my nephew’s birthday candles as a joke

My nephews 6th birthday party yesterday. He was struggling to blow all the candles out so I jokingly blew the remaining ones out for him. My sister went on a full on strop over it saying I ruined his moment. AIBU to think she’s completely over reacting?? She ended up relighting the candles for him to “have another go” making it a much bigger deal than it needed to be.

Was this the one who insisted on using the shared toilet rather than walk down the ooooooh scarey corridor to the ensuite they had insisted they had.

Some people eh! Mind you , if the sun shone out of my arse I would probably insist on the ensuite room……

You’re really going to go as low as taking the piss out of a health condition I have? Seriously?

A man once kicked my dog. I was angry but I didn't punch him in the face.

If someone blew my candles out as a joke they'd be getting a swift bunch of fives. In fact if your nephew blew out my candles as a joke, the same would apply

EmeraldShamrock000 · 05/04/2026 13:15

hahaha funny but absolutely awful to do to a child.
I hate seen kids blowing their germs over a birthday cake but what can you do, you have to wait patiently while they do their thing.

purpleme12 · 05/04/2026 13:14

She was right to light the candles again for him

Everybody knows you don’t do that. It’s in the same league as men who think it’s funny to smush wedding cake in the bride’s face when they’re being filmed cutting the cake. Dick behaviour.

If my DH had done this to me on our wedding day, the marriage would have been instantly annulled. I don't appreciate anyone pulling a practical joke to make me look daft, in order to TRY to make him look hilarious. I'd be done.

gostickyourheadinapig · 05/04/2026 13:12

Why would you spoil a child's fun? Blowing out the candles is important to a six-year-old. It's not in the least important to an adult and anyway, you presumably have your own birthday.

You are so evil, this is worse than if you’d picked up a stone and gone on a bludgeoning rampage at the party
<just to join in with the hilariously hyperbolic comments on here >?

Ohcrap082024 · 05/04/2026 13:11

My mum’s best friend had a dd who would pull this kind of stunt. For laughs. Always just a joke. She was a dickhead then and is still a dickhead now even though she is heading into her 60s.

Aquarius91 · 05/04/2026 13:10

Not funny, arsehole move.

Zanatdy · 05/04/2026 13:10

Sorry but that’s really mean. Why would an adult do that?

This. Only the perpetrator finds it funny, usually everyone else is watching on aghast.

ForeverTheOptomist · 05/04/2026 13:08

I'm sorry, but that was a pretty grim thing to do to a six year old, or even a 66 year old come to that.

Perhaps you could apologise to your nephew.

There were two candles left! It’s not like I blew the whole lot out but I’ll take it on board and won’t do it again

It's officially ok as long as you blow out less than 50% of the candles😂

fartoomuchtoblerone · 05/04/2026 13:05

Yeah that’s a dick move on a 6 year old

allthingsinmoderation · 05/04/2026 13:04

You don't ever blow out someone elses birthday candles...

Dressinggownlife · 05/04/2026 13:02

What a pri*k

honeylulu · 05/04/2026 13:01

I thought this was a reversey percy until I noticed OP's use name and realised it's the Toilet Princess. So I can totally believe she would do something like this and consider it acceptable.

c3pu · 05/04/2026 13:00

Who was laughing at the "joke"?

Everyone = YANBU
Just you = YABU

This must be fake surely!

You’re the same poster who insisted on the en-suite being a ‘one person toilet’ when you went away.

Please tell me this is fake and nobody is this self absorbed 😂

Whatever you do, please don't point out that it is school holidays! You could find yourself banned 😂

Whaddabiacch · 05/04/2026 12:59

What a horrible, twatish thing to do to a kid.
What would possess you to do that.

Pyjamatimenow · 05/04/2026 12:59

Do you have your own kids? Jesus you don’t do that. I’ve watched 40 five year olds stand patiently by while a birthday child huffs and puffs all over cake and not one interfere

That’s a horrible thing to do.
