Easter egg hunt at 6.30am

Both the parents outside with the kids, several kids running around screaming at 6.30am. Do people have no shame?

Some kids in my area run around screaming for hours. The parents totally ignore them and just let them run all over the place from 5 years old including on roads. They sound like wailing banshees and now no other neighbour would actually offer help or even check on them if they were screaming for help if needed because they scream like that so much anyway.

As for 6.15 am its rude and anti social behaviour to let kids run around shouting at that time outside doing an easter egg hunt.

In my neighbourhood, the (male) parents also go out and bellow, whipping the children up into a frenzy. Echoes beautifully with their L shaped houses, patios and astroturf.

Yes but this isn’t about pre planning or doing the ‘right’ thing. It’s about kids having fun 🥲 good lord people are utterly miserable

It’s perfectly possible to let your children have fun and to be considerate to one’s neighbours, it just means having the egg hunt a little later. Consideration for others is one of the most important things that you can teach children and the best way to do that is to demonstrate it. And if being considerate makes me miserable then I’ll happily claim the title.

Weird comment.

I thought it was funny

It’s also totally possible to pre-plan if your kids are early wakers and not have to go outside at the crack of dawn.

Exactly. Completely normal to be up and about at that time!

Ffs it’s normal for YOU. Not most people. How can you be so inconsiderate of others?

CruCru · 05/04/2026 10:11

MassiveOvaryaction · 05/04/2026 09:28

I'm picking on your post because it's the one I've most recently read. Although a garden Easter egg hunt may be 'a few minutes once a year', @AliceAbsolum has said their neighbours are generally inconsiderate with a barking dog and therefore this could be a straw/camel's back situation.

The dog being allowed to bark all the time seems much more annoying than one Easter egg hunt a year.

tonystarksrighthand · 05/04/2026 09:57

You make a good point. I apologise

Oh I thought it was funny because it was true and exposes the lack of Christian tolerance in the OP. So it looks disrespectful on its face but comes from an actually more Christian perspective.

If it was me I'd be feeling so guilty and anxious if I was outside with them for some reason. Do people not feel like that? Or ignore the emotion? Or maybe the children wanted to do it at 6.30am and they have no boundaries.

I don't think I would feel guilty being out early Easter Sunday. Same way I wouldn't feel guilty about noise late on New Year's Eve. If it's not a regular occurrence it's fine.

Rewis · 05/04/2026 10:07

If my neighbours did this, it would give me permission to make noise around midnight.

Obviously I dont know oP's neighbours but if theyre the similar to the ones we got, sound of children's laughter is one thing. The screaming is another and genuinely terrible sounding.

Melancholyflower · 05/04/2026 10:07

Rileysp · 05/04/2026 08:04

I may be in a minority here. I have young kids…..

firstly I wouldn’t do it. But. 6.30 isn’t an unreasonable time. There’s always noise at that time. Birds/dogs/cars etc. it’s a normal time to get up.

secondly, how long will it last? Ten mins? Certainly less time than it takes to read this thread

thirdly. Kids are probably asleep by 7.30. Would the poster think they’d go in during the summer because of this. Doubt it.

It might not be an unreasonable time for you on a Sunday, but for many people at different life stages to you it is.
I certainly wasn't getting up at that time pre-kids, unless I had to for work and now mine are grown-up I don't get up that early, unless for a particular reason. I would not be woken by normal noise such as birds, but I would be by children screaming.

Stepsisterfromhell · 05/04/2026 10:06

I don't think you are being unreasonable in being annoyed about this but surely just go back to sleep now, rather than getting agitated all over Mumsnet?

Its what Jesus would have wanted

He got up pretty early on the Sunday too.

But Greek rather than Latinate so marks for pure boffiness. Full marks to you for bothering to count the letters, but please note the number of syllables is equal. Also I am having some extra marks for using the phrase “long words” rather than “better vocabulary” in an admittedly failed attempt to avoid patronising you.

Your second comment is on something I did not write.

Ah I see, you're one of "those posters".

Lolz at you didnt write the comment, it's in your post I quoted 😊

I used to have to colour code mine, e.g. DC1: gold, DC2: orange, DC3: blue.

Otherwise we’d have been in A&E due to the ensuing scrum.

Smart idea 👏😁

Me too 😂

Hyperbole is a shorter word than exaggerate so not quite sure you achieved your aim with that comment 😂

And there you go again, no ones objecting to kids being out Confused

I'm an atheist but I agree with @Coffeeandbooks88 . Posters often think sneering at and mocking Christian beliefs is fair game and unfortunately in my view MNHQ let it go on.

You make a good point. I apologise

Melancholyflower · 05/04/2026 09:55

AliceAbsolum · 05/04/2026 06:59

Several people on this thread for starters

Yes, obviously people with young children who think it's fine to disturb everyone else at 6.30 am on a Sunday just because they are up.

I'm not a believer, but I understand that Easter Sunday is the most important day in the Christian calender, and not because it's an opportunity for children to run around screaming looking for eggs. Maybe those parents desperate to celebrate Easter could have done the hunt when they got back from church.🙄

Panama2 · 05/04/2026 09:54

Now the parents have a very long day filled with hyped up chocolate covered kids.

Functioningdisaster · 05/04/2026 09:54

Omg I would be furious - that's really anti social. Are you going to say something?

ilovesooty · 05/04/2026 09:53

tonystarksrighthand · 05/04/2026 08:08

Here we go ….. offended at everything brigade out at Easter

Perfectly reasonable if they keep you awake at night🤷‍♀️ in my case anyway. There's no way they're getting any rest this morning if they've disturbed mine last night.

Great message for the kids there 😳

I can’t believe how many people think it’s ok to be waking the neighbours at 6:30 at a weekend. What’s wrong with teaching children to be respectful of people around them?
