Am I overreacting to DH’s April Fools??

This morning DH took the dog for a walk and he came back covered in “blood” and so was the dog. He came back “hysterical” and told me the dog had been savagely attacked by another dog. I was in panic mode and I ran over to next doors as she is a vet to see what to do. When we both came back from hers to the dog, DH says “April Fools” which I (and she) found extremely irritating. The blood he got from the cupboard Halloween storage. I felt humiliated, embarrassed and didn’t find it funny at all. He thinks I’m being a spoil sport!

AIBU? Am I being a wet lettuce or is this too far?

What a prick. Not funny at all.

Perpetuallywondering · 01/04/2026 19:23

The best April Fools are ones where you’re taken in at first by something that is plausible but a bit eye-rolly… and gradually they add more detail until you go 🤦‍♀️

Pretending that you’re seriously injured from a traumatic attack is not funny on any level.

Bohema123 · 01/04/2026 19:23

I can barely believe this is true. Sounds like something you would see on a comedy show that a deranged husband might do. You will be hard pressed to find a single other person who would think this is funny. He needs to have a long hard think about this and what possessed him.

nopalite · 01/04/2026 19:22

What a twat! I’d be fucking fuming but it sounds like he’s as bad as his dad. I’d have been horrified and so panicked for my dog. 😡😞

hereismydog · 01/04/2026 19:21

Pranks are supposed to be funny! My DP switched my towel for a hooded baby towel this morning. That’s a silly, harmless little April Fool. Your DH has behaved horribly Sad

This shit is exactly why I hate April Fool's Day. Pranks are almost never anything but mean-spirited and cruel.

Exactly, I was reading the April Fools thread and most of them were inane as fuck and I didn’t get why they were funny

brightnails · 01/04/2026 19:19

vile, triggering and immature. Sorry that happened to you @OneDeepOPand I’m glad you dog is actually ok. maybe you walk the dog from now on?

What a prick

Shinyandnew1 · 01/04/2026 19:16

What a dickhead. Don’t be surprised if your next door neighbour gives your house a wide birth in future.

What next? A hilarious prank telling you a parent has died?

That’s what FIL did on 1 April 2020 when he told us his mum (DH’s nan) had died from COVID so yeah his side of the family can be like that.

I would fucking kill my husband if he did this.

what an absolute douche he is 😡

April fools that make you think someone is hurt, dead or pregant are not funny or in even in the spirit of it. It was funny to make me think my dog was in pain and dying? I'd be furious.

Or won a life-changing amount on the lottery, don't forget that 😳.

reptilemad1985 · 01/04/2026 19:13

nope no funny at all

Gloriia · 01/04/2026 19:13

April fools are supposed to be funny, this was awful. Is he normally an absolute wanker or was this a one off?!

JeepersItsTheKraken · 01/04/2026 19:13

Bubblefun70 · 01/04/2026 19:12

I didn't think anyone did April Fool's day jokes anymore. Been about 20yrs since I have experienced one. Yeah, bit stupid really.

SpaceRaccoon · 01/04/2026 19:11

SerendipityCat · 01/04/2026 19:11

Has he got form for this kind of fuckwittedness? I'd find it deeply unfunny, too.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 01/04/2026 19:11

April Fools jokes are pathetic anyway once you are over the age of about 6. I always find MN weird in that they lose their shit over people being pranked usually but apparently its okay on April Fools Day.

I would have been furious at your husband

NuffSaidSam · 01/04/2026 19:11

I think he may be slightly unhinged.

DysmalRadius · 01/04/2026 19:11

Maybe if he had instantly revealed the 'joke', it would have been unfunny, but not awful, but to allow you to get a neighbour involved was taking it WAY too far. Did he apologise to your neighbour at least?

Pepperedpickles · 01/04/2026 19:10

He sounds like a psychopath. How could he possibly think that was funny??

Doingtheboxerbeat · 01/04/2026 19:10

That's as funny as a bad diagnosis, so not really 😭.

holachicatita · 01/04/2026 19:10

I'd be fuming, especially as he let you go get your neighbour!! If it was just you I'd maybe roll my eyes, but letting you call for a vet is a step too far.
