Six year old trans girl ‘tries to cut off her penis’ after Guide ban

Quite a disturbing article in this morning’s Observer regarding the impact of the Guides’ ban on trans girls following the Supreme Court ruling.

It reports on the experience of one six year old trans girl named Emily after hearing she could no longer attend Rainbows:

Emily’s parents decided to be honest with their daughter about the situation, and explained that she was no longer able to take part in Rainbows because she was trans. A few hours later Curt said they found her “sobbing in her room” and were “shocked” to find her holding a pair of plastic scissors to her penis.

AIBU to find this a distressing consequence of campaign by anti-trans activists or is it a natural result of allowing such young children to change their gender identity?

@BoredZelda sorry I quoted the wrong post, I meant to quote the person who said there were two trans players in the team

When I was eight, my auntie had her fourth child, followed by a hysterectomy, so she needed to stay in hospital for a while, instead of coming straight home. Not surprisingly she didn't mention her hysterectomy to me ~ but she could have told me she was staying in for a rest. I'd certainly have believed that. But she told me that you have to be really careful with new babies ~ if they get too much sunshine they melt and die. I believed her. I was little and of course I believed her; she was my auntie. When a neighbour's baby was outside I'd be turning the pram away from the sun, fiddling with the sunshades, crying that I was saving the baby from melting.

Children believe what their trusted adults tell them. This boy's trusted adults told him he was really a girl. He believes he's a girl. I am sad for him.

His parents should be prosecuted for child abuse.

In my daughter’s school’s basketball team there was one girl who was bigger and faster than all the others in the mixed team. She basically ran up and down the court scoring and no-one got a look in. I have no idea how the rest of the team felt but it looked bad to me. I took that as an error in coaching rather than the fault of the girl who was just playing a game to the best of her ability.

I’d have taken my daughter off that team as there is no pride in cheating. I also wouldn’t have allowed my daughter to play against blokes

DrowningNotWaveing · 29/03/2026 13:03

I love the phrase 'Girlguiding facing mass exodus...'

Purleeeeese, how many boys are in the Guides!!

Vaxtable · 29/03/2026 13:02

JonesTown · 29/03/2026 11:27

Zoe Williams has argued that a sensible solution to all of this would be to make the Brownies mixed gender like the Scouts.

Wouldn't this be more sensible than making six year old girls so distressed that they attempt to cut off their penis?

@JonesTown

so basically girls can’t have a same sex group because a boy wants to cut of their geneitalia?

so yet again girls suffer?

I seriously doubt there is a mass exodus of members. I will now be happy for my daughter to sign up to Rainbows when the time comes and il consider volunteering. I wouldnt have done either previously

No way would I send my daughter to Brownies or Guides now, will just be full of extremists who think it’s ok to weaponise children and to call struggling parents abusers. Vile.

blacksax · 29/03/2026 13:02

No child that young can have any real understanding of the concept of what it is to be transgender.

You have no evidence the parents are mentally ill
or abusive.

The way children are being weaponised by extremists like you is frankly disgusting.

“Extremists” aka people who know that humans cannot ever change sex.

Even Cass says the likes of you are weaponising children. It’s dreadful and you should be ashamed.

What have I done? I'm giving opinions on a thread. You're being ridiculous.

I get the feeling some people have been watching too many episodes of Rugrats! It was amazing just how many escapades and problems those babies solved and the thought- provoking, full blown conversations they had every episode despite their age.

Angelica was a bossy boots though, she annoyed me constantly trying to boss the others around

Ironically, the children being "weaponised" are those whose parents are encouraging to believe they can change sex.

5MinuteArgument · 29/03/2026 12:52

Yes, this is the end game. TRAs would ideally like the option where we keep single sex spaces but trans women are legally defined as women so they have full access to them. That's what they would find the most 'validating'.

And does that include refuges, hospital wards and a double rapist in a women's prison? Absolutely!

That's basically what the GRR bill intended.

Thankfully for all of us here in Scotland, the Section 35. blocked it.

Unfortunately, the Scottish Government continue to ignore the law.

I’m not sure, my daughter is at rainbows and has various friends. If she found out one of her friends was banned from rainbows she would be very confused and upset. She would have no idea what being trans meant, nor do I think she would care.

We haven’t come across this situation yet in the real world. Closest we have come to is about gay relationships. So I think it’s hard to say if you haven’t lived the situation

Surely you would just tell her the truth ? Eg ‘Jamie isn’t allowed to go to Rainbows any more as it’s just for girls now and he is a boy’

I do not believe a six year iis as aware as this about being trans or sexuality and gender issue unless an adult has been in their ear and putting ideas in their head.

Affirming a child as the sex they are not is abusive.

Should we move towards a situation like the Greens and Zack Polanski are advocating where trans women are legally recognised as women, and have access to all ‘female’ spaces?

Alternatively, all spaces could simply be made mixed gender.

This would blunt the impact of transphobia.

Ok, I took your original post in good faith, now you are just baiting.

WhereYouLeftIt · 29/03/2026 12:45

  1. Zoe Williams is an idiot
  2. Since the mixed-SEX Scouts is available, there is no need for the Brownies to cease being single-sex (unless the aim is to ensure girls can't have anything for themselves without boys' presence)
  3. He's a boy
  4. With mentally ill and abusive parents

The girl clearly wants to identify as female, and I think it’s only right that we respect her wishes in how we refer to her.

How can you not understand how this is as dim as saying ‘we should respect his wishes to run in front of a car.’

i genuinely think the problem with this whole debate is that people with higher IQs can not debate with those of lower. And vice versa. Neither understand the other.

HelenaWaiting · 29/03/2026 11:45

Well it's bullshit. Six year old children are not politically aware and do not organise boycotts. Do you usually swallow and regurgitate everything you read in the papers?

Together with their push for puberty blockers, I'm really disturbed at the measures this ideology goes to to assign full autonomy to six year olds, and to create a generation of people who are legally and chronologically 16 or 18, but physically 12.

Sladuf1 · 29/03/2026 12:55

They're all vegan cats...

I suspect you’re right. On another note I have to say I hope owners of vegan cats wake up to the presents the cat we had when I grew up left in the kitchen for us quite often: a dead mouse and occasionally a bird he had caught! 😆

No. Transwomen are biological males and will never be women.

No to everything being mixed gender sex.

Yes to more mental health support to those who think humans can change sex.

Yes to more criminal charges relating to voyeurism and flashing and abusive parenting.

No to men who think women aren't allowed anything for themselves.

That poor boy is being severely let down by his parents, and by people like you OP. You should be ashamed of yourself.

This.

When DD was 12 she played a football match against a team with two trans-girls. She was hurt when one tackled her (she was under 5 ft and slight and “she” nearly a foot taller). Less so, but her team were also despondent as the two trans-girls kept scoring as they were faster and stronger.

I often thought how the parents felt of the trans girls on their team. They won the league but the other girls didn’t really get a look in … also they shared changing rooms.
