Six year old trans girl ‘tries to cut off her penis’ after Guide ban

Quite a disturbing article in this morning’s Observer regarding the impact of the Guides’ ban on trans girls following the Supreme Court ruling.

It reports on the experience of one six year old trans girl named Emily after hearing she could no longer attend Rainbows:

Emily’s parents decided to be honest with their daughter about the situation, and explained that she was no longer able to take part in Rainbows because she was trans. A few hours later Curt said they found her “sobbing in her room” and were “shocked” to find her holding a pair of plastic scissors to her penis.

AIBU to find this a distressing consequence of campaign by anti-trans activists or is it a natural result of allowing such young children to change their gender identity?

There was an interesting letter to The Guardian a few months ago where a women described how she regularly uses male toilets as the queues are shorter. She has done this for decades without issue.

I think we all need to be more understanding and see each other as individuals rather than simply members of a specific identity group.

Thank you for replying, that’s appreciated. Although it doesn’t quite fully answer the question about whether there are any single sex spaces you’d see as having a reason to remain single sex. From this answer, should I infer that your view is ‘no, there are no spaces that need to remain single sex’?

There are all sorts of physical advantages that different people have in sport. Are we saying that tall girls should be banned from female teams because they are better than others.

I don’t see why a girl should be banned from playing a sport they love simply because they happen to have been assigned male at birth.

I really wish people would get over this ridiculous obfuscatory nonsense la-la land language. He wasn't "assigned" a boy any more than he was "assigned" a human being. He was, and still is, a boy. And if he wasn't a boy there would be no issue with him being in the Girl Guides.

Jones Town link
A total of 909 individuals died in Jonestown itself,[1] all but two from apparent cyanide poisoning, a significant number of whom were injected against their will. Jones and some Peoples Temple members referred to the act as a "revolutionary suicide"

Is revolutionary suicide the new phrase for murder? TRAs really like messing around with words don't they 🙄

Hence the saying about drinking the Kool Aid.

This is really sad to read

just how do we move forward supporting children who are feeling confused who do believe they are born in the wrong body

I feel both sides have become so entrenched in their views that we have lost the ability to have sensible conversations

Only one side uses facts.

I am doing a strongwoman competition in a few weeks. The beginners female category the max deadlift is 120kg, the male beginners it’s 200kg. The same applies to every category.

Because like it or not those born male have strength advantages. It would be very unfair for a trans woman to compete against me because they have a natural advantage that no amount of training can overcome!

Good luck!

SnoopyPajamas · 29/03/2026 15:49

I doubt this actually happened. I doubt this child even exists, to be honest.

Zoe Williams has argued that a sensible solution to all of this would be to make the Brownies mixed gender like the Scouts.

Wouldn't this be more sensible than making six year old girls so distressed that they attempt to cut off their penis?

All the little girls should lose their same-sex happy space because their unhappiness doesn't matter, as long as a disturbed little boy feels good?

Look up "internal misogyny".

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 29/03/2026 15:47

Literally not believable.

Quite

WeMeetInFairIthilien · 29/03/2026 15:44

Thank-you.

That was bugging me.

Turns out, I can't spell.

Can tell the difference between male and female though, so there is that 😂

The Green Party position is that trans women are women, and should have access to female spaces alongside non-binary people.

Until we reach a position where all facilities are multi-gender, the Greens’ position would avoid trans people being so distressed that a six year old girl tries to cut her penis off.

Again for the ones at the back, the Green Party want little boys to be castrated. What do you think 'gender affirming care' is? Now, with plastic scissor, or in a few years at a chop shop in Thailand. Then back home where, hopefully, the NHS can repair the damage so the hole he'll be left with won't kill him.

Jones Town was where they literally drunk the Kool aid.

Interesting choice, isn’t it?
Makes you wonder what we’re actually dealing with here.

dapsnotplimsolls · 29/03/2026 15:42

Did the Observer even check the story?

I am so sorry, but I don't get the bit about the username. What am I missing? All I can think of is that it sounds bit like a colloquial name for male genitalia, or the town where there was a terrible dam burst.

They could perhaps be making a point about dangerous cults. We aren't the ones who need to be told, though.

Now you’re just being plain disgusting.
I also note that you ignored my earlier post, probably because you know full well that if you said you do believe that prisons, rape crisis counselling, domestic abuse shelters and hospital wards should by default be mixed sex, you’re immediately going to lose the argument by exposing what a horror show your beliefs are.
Telling, very telling,
That is what you believe, though, isn’t it? That females, despite historically being the world’s most oppressed and abused group, aren’t deserving of boundaries, even if they’re deeply hurt or traumatised. And why is that? Because it might make some males sad?
You are a complete moral vacuum. As for bringing Trump into it, I suspect he’d also say that the sky is blue and water is wet, because some things are universal truths whether you like who’s saying them or not.

At the risk of repeating myself, why all the concern about this child getting his penis cut off. Do his parents, the Guardian, the OP not realise this is the reality of the road this child has been set on. He, unless he's exceptionally fortunate, will be castrated. Why is it such a tragedy now? It's his future.

Man alive - that’s a good point!

I didn’t even think of that. You’re dead on.

TheKeatingFive · 29/03/2026 15:36

That story is an absolute disgrace

This is about a little girl who thought she had to change her body to keep her friends. Her actions weren’t driven by self-hatred, but by the heartbreaking belief that if she could remove the part of her body others said made her “wrong”, she might finally be accepted.

No way would this child have come to that conclusion if adults hadn't put it in his head.

I'm also aghast at how the last paragraph begins with 'What I want'.

This is all about the narcissism of the parents. Not a single thought or mention of the little girls who need to budge over and accommodate a boy. No actual regard for the child himself, he's being used for their agenda. Absolutely gross from start to finish.

I assume you’re joking, because girls do not have a penis to cut off, even if they wanted to do such a thing. That’s 100% the point here.
