Child's baby teeth keep coming out with root

Picture pending

DS9 has had multiple baby teeth come out with large roots. I've never seen it before in my life and Google is very unhelpful 😅

Dentist isn't concerned at all and I don't know why? Surely this isn't normal? Some of his adult teeth have needed composite bonding on them as they've come through yellow, despite his teeth being very healthy. Dentist still doesn't seem concerned?

He's recently been diagnosed with dyspraxia and hypermobile, I've got a GP appointment booked for him too as I think he has elhos danlos as he has many of the symptons ( as do I tbh )

AIBU to think that his teeth are somehow linked to everything he has going on?

If your dentist, who spent six years training isn’t concerned, take his word for it unless you also have extensive dental training, I’m fairly sure they know more than you and google!

I thought of Ehlers Danlos just by reading your title, so I'm not surprised to see you mention it. Teeth/gums can be affected, even just mildly

There is a type of EDS (Periodontal) that can seriously affect teeth, it's something to be aware of but I wouldn't be worrying about it unless you start seeing other signs. As far as I know, there is a genetic test for that type, so you could see if your GP could refer for it even just to put your mind at rest

I’m a paediatric dentist. I do think this could be slightly unusual. I’d want to know the answer to these questions first - Were the baby teeth wobbly first before they fell out? Does he have a tendency to wobble his own teeth, or encourage them to come out? Do you have a family history or missing adult teeth? Have the adult successors come through?

*Edited - I’ve just had a look at the third picture of the primary molar. Was this tooth extracted by the dentist, or it exfoliated looking just like this? With blood on?

I've never seen anything like it, it scares me everytime he gets one 😅. I just feel like there's somthing wrong.

He's autistic and very literal so unfortunetly doesn't believe in the the tooth fairy 😭 but he does get a toy/treat of his choice

What did you expect them to look like? They're perfectly healthy baby teeth. Honestly please don't worry as you'll pass on the anxiety to him x

All mine came out like this 🤷‍♀️

tripleginandtonic · 27/03/2026 15:23

That's normal OP.

They’re meant to come out with the root or how else could the big teeth grow through. Don’t worry. That all looks normal to me

My daughters baby teeth were so tiny compared to my sons 😅 I wish I'd kept them to compare

I have never seen it before in my life it's crazy. When I've sent these pictures to my friends and family they havnt seen anything like it either 😅

Do you have any DC and if so did any of their teeth come out like this?

Hmm that’s how I remember my teeth coming out. My dc are little so not losing teeth yet. Honestly looks normal to me x

My kittens baby teeth had "roots"on. They were precious.
The entire tooth has to come out....everything, because there is a whole new one underneath so its perfevtly normal. I just had a look at the baby teeth I kept. They are the same.

The first two pictures are not of roots. If the dentist isn't worried why are you.

Yes but they should be a lot smaller, our baby teeth reabsorb and it's just very very odd that a lot of his havnt,

I'm worried because it feels like there's an underlying problem. He's 9 and needed composite bonding because some of his adult teeth have come through yellow and some soft, ..... it's got to be linked

They look cool! Everyone's teeth are different and if dentist isn't concerned then nothing to worry about. He just has big teeth?! They look healthy.

Does tooth fairy pay extra for bigger ones? 😂 X
