AIBU for kissing DP on school run when DD dislikes it?

DD has had yet another massive go at me after school today. I broke up from her father when she was v young. Didn’t date for ages. Met a school run dad (now DP) in September, knew each other for a while then dated and went from there. Obviously we can’t see loads of each other so school run is one of only opportunities in week. Naturally happy to see each other and embrace/kiss as any normal couple would. DD kicking off saying she doesn’t want to see this.

AIBU? She can’t expect me to remain single for ever surely ?

Lol I didn’t mean like that, we were hugging and he sort of got me to jump up and held me for a bit to kiss. Definitely wasn’t a dirty dancing scene, no wonder so many people picked up on my comment if that was the confusion 😂

A brief peck is all that’s appropriate on the school run. No jumping (even for a peck) or holding for a bit.

And given she’s objected and he’s a school dad, which complicates your DD’s relationships at school, even a brief peck is really inconsiderate.

What the fuck? In the school playground or in the vicinity of? That’s incredibly inappropriate. Your poor poor daughter.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 26/03/2026 21:58

No, this is completely inappropriate. You've only been going out with him since September, most advice on here is usually to not even introduce him to your kids for a year.

Obviously that's not possible due to him being a school Dad, but she really doesn't need to see a bit of a snog on the school run.

She’s not asking you to stay single forever, she’s asking you not to kiss on the school run cause it’s embarrassing. I’m inclined to agree with her.

This ^ Reign it in a little. Its weird making out in front of your child and her friends. PDA in front of your child's school is also weird. It's still early days in your relationship , dont shit where you eat -or rather, where your daughter eats.

Ellie1015 · 26/03/2026 21:56

Fine to have a partner. Not fine for any pda at school gate, most children would be mortified. Apologise to dd and reassure it wont happen again.

AnonAnonmystery · 26/03/2026 21:53

You need to rein it in. She’s told you she isn’t comfortable with you kissing on the school run - respect it instead of acting like you are 13!

Hellohelga · 26/03/2026 21:52

Reign in the PDA, yes embarrassing. Let DD make her own way to school and go get a room.

Scarydinosaurs · 26/03/2026 21:49

Listen to your daughter.

Don’t embarrass her.

She is more important than you. Be her mum first.

CypressGrove · 26/03/2026 21:47

It's really not normal for couples to embrace and kiss on the school run. Your poor DD.

MrsWhites · 26/03/2026 21:44

Do you understand the sort of stick your daughter will be getting from her classmates if they seen you too.

It’s actually a really tricky age when they are starting sex education and become aware of sexual behaviour, lots of silly comments get made. Your behaviour is completely unnecessary and you seriously risk damaging your relationship with your daughter.

fouroclockrock · 26/03/2026 21:44

Cringe.

Eenameenadeeka · 26/03/2026 21:44

Wow, if this is real you're definitely unreasonable. School drop off really isn't the time for kissing, even if it was your husband and the father of your child let alone a new boyfriend who you met through school that's super embarrassing for her.

beAsensible1 · 26/03/2026 21:39

I think you can refrain from kissing your new bf at the school gates in front of her mates actually.

does she actually need dropping or is it more social? Kiss after you’ve walked away. Of course its embarrassing and that’s without all the extra jumping and carrying on.

NewZebra · 26/03/2026 21:35

So cringe. I’m not surprised your dd is embarrassed. You should be too.

Twooclockrock · 26/03/2026 21:35

Sorry, I wouldnt kiss my DH of 15 years who is our kids dad on the school run. It's just a bit weird.
Kiss on the cheek ok, but please no adult PDA on the school run for the sake of everybody. I can see why she is mortified.

ThatJadeLion · 26/03/2026 21:35

I don't believe this ever happened

PinkIcedRing · 26/03/2026 21:34

Holy SHIT. 🤣 Your poor daughter. Honestly, the bullies will have a field day with her based entirely on your being an absolute state.

I imagine most 11 year old would be mortified by parents kissing in public. At 44 I would still be if my parents did it!

RandomUserName96 · 26/03/2026 21:31

Ohh just wait til you read the updates

If only it was just a peck on the lips 😬

Fuck my life just read the updates 🫣

The secondhand embarrassment is real!

Malinia · 26/03/2026 21:32

I hate to ask this, but are you kissing with tongues when he's lifting you up? I can't see you doing just a little peck on the lips if he's encouraging you to jump up and holding you off the ground (which is utterly cringe anyway).

Honestly you are embarrassing yourself and everyone around you. It's so inappropriate.

ChaliceinWonderland · 26/03/2026 21:32

plims · 26/03/2026 17:57

I’m really surprised that you lack such self awareness that you feel it is appropriate to be doing this on the school run.

This. You lack self-awareness and are stupid to think this isn't damaging uour child. Put the children first, ffs

She will never forgive you.

PorridgeAndSyrup · 26/03/2026 21:32

Mate... I'm sorry but I'm with your daughter on this one. Any 11 year old would be mortified. You don't have to stay single, but you could at least give the PDA a rest, especially at the school gates for crying out loud 😂

RandomUserName96 · 26/03/2026 21:31

Lmnop22 · 26/03/2026 21:26

But you’re a grown woman and he’s a grown man and part of adulthood is controlling your impulses when it’s inappropriate to express them!

If you know it upsets DD and it’s something as simple as just making her feel comfortable by not pecking your boyfriend on the lips when you see him, then just bloody well don’t and save it for when you see him privately!

Have you stopped to consider how it affects her to suddenly be all lovey dovey with a man that’s not her father after a few months only?

Ohh just wait til you read the updates

If only it was just a peck on the lips 😬

XiCi · 26/03/2026 21:30

You say your dd has had 'yet another' go at you. So you are embarrassing her daily knowing it upsets her? Just why? Why so performative in the school playground? Surely you could walk out together after your dd has gone in and kiss then? Honestly you sound awful. You've only been seeing him a few months, there's not even any need for your dd to know about him, let alone snogging him in her school playground.
