AIBU for kissing DP on school run when DD dislikes it?

DD has had yet another massive go at me after school today. I broke up from her father when she was v young. Didn’t date for ages. Met a school run dad (now DP) in September, knew each other for a while then dated and went from there. Obviously we can’t see loads of each other so school run is one of only opportunities in week. Naturally happy to see each other and embrace/kiss as any normal couple would. DD kicking off saying she doesn’t want to see this.

AIBU? She can’t expect me to remain single for ever surely ?

Has she actually said she wants you to remain single? It doesn’t sound like that, it sounds like she doesn’t want to see you kissing your new boyfriend at school. I think that’s perfectly reasonable, I’d be embarrassed too, just wait until the kids have gone in? This is a very new relationship so just keep level headed.

Sensiblesal · 26/03/2026 22:51

I’m sorry he isn’t your partner, he is the man you are dating or your boyfriend.

your child is embarrassed by your pDA so I would stop it. Plus if the relationship fizzles out less awkwardness. Remember if you break up daughter will be faced with ‘why has your mum stopped kissing xxx’s dad’

Mumandcarer80 · 26/03/2026 22:50

It’s even more cringe that he also has a child in that school. There was a parent that was told she couldn’t behave like that outside our local SN youth club. She was seen snogging her boyfriend outside. Not just a peck a full on snog.

HoppingPavlova · 26/03/2026 22:49

YABVU to introduce a new boyfriend to children when it’s only been 6 months, that’s a huge red flag in itself.

YABVU to carry on with public displays of affection outside the school while children are going in. Why can’t you wait until kids have gone in, and go around the corner where you can’t be seen?

ZoeCM · 26/03/2026 22:48

Your poor daughter. I would have died of embarrassment if my mum had turned up at school and kissed one of the other parents. You need to grow up.

Imbusytodaysorry · 26/03/2026 22:46

@Werze far too much ! Don’t do it toyour dd . I feel embarrassed for her.

Oh, good gawd people. It was a kiss, a bit movie-like, but fgs, a kiss. They weren't all hands and get a room. I fear there are a lot of repressed keyboard warriors out tonight.
Of course OP's dd is mortified. She's 11. It's her job to call her mother out on anything and everything. 🤣🤣🤣
@Werze don't think it will end any time soon, either. I complimented a woman for her bright pink long puffer vest today and she laughed and said her 25 year old daughter was mortified she was wearing something so bright. 🤣🤣🤣

On the school run?

Its performative ‘look we are fucking’ - nobody needs to see that shit. I think the OP sees it as movie like when I would lay odds it was more tacky than romantic

And if the daughter is having the piss taken out of her (because I can’t see how that could be avoided - ‘ewwww your mum was all over Johnny’ dad’.

minipie · 26/03/2026 22:43

This sounds immensely cringey and tbh almost like you want everyone to look.

Why on earth can’t you both wait till the kids have gone through the gate, go round the corner and do your PDAs there??

Spookyspaghetti · 26/03/2026 22:41

Yes, cringe. Are you still on the younger side? I can’t imagine doing that on the school run these days even if I were dating Ryan Gosling.

FiveShelties · 26/03/2026 22:39

Excellent thread @Werze, especially the bit where DP lifted you up!

Cannot wait for next episode 😂

What an embarrassment. Reign it in for your DD's sake if nothing else.

She was extra annoyed today because DP lifted me up ,got a bit carried away we haven’t seen each other since last week due to his work. We won’t repeat that but it’s just natural to be excited to see someone surely

Ok this can’t be real.

FeelingALittleWoozyHere · 26/03/2026 22:31

My 9 year old would be MORTIFIED if me and DH did this outside school and I wouldn't want to upset her. Why aren't you respecting her feelings?

ThatCyanCat · 26/03/2026 22:29

As my kids would say, put it away.

AnonAnonmystery · 26/03/2026 22:27

You are not a safe person for your daughter.
Please don’t have this man under the same roof as your DD as you seem so careless about the safety and happiness of your daughter.

atamlin · 26/03/2026 22:19

You jumped up onto him and kissed in the schoolyard? This is so inappropriate. Other parents will also be talking. I’ve never seen anyone kiss at school drop off or pick up.

Stop acting like silly lovestruck teenagers at the school gate, you're adults!

She needs to get used to you dating, but you could tone the public displays down a bit, you're not 13.

Criiiiiiinge!

Herewegoagainandagainandagain · 26/03/2026 22:14

Doesn’t bode well for your dd, introducing a man you’ve know romantically for 10 mins into her life and not being aware enough of her feelings that you are allowing yourself to be lifted up and snogged in the playground. Also what kind of man, a dad, is also so unaware does that in the school playground.

The two of you need to grow up and remember what your priorities are. If your dd is struggling with your relationship you do it away from her and introduce her to the idea slowly until she is more comfortable. If he is a decent man he will understand.

outerspacepotato · 26/03/2026 22:13

I'm sure the breakup will be just as dramatic.

Your new bf is okay with embarrassing your kid and making a sexual display with you in front of young kids and parents at drop off. He sounds like the kind of creepy asshole you should keep very, very, very far from your daughter.

LizzieW1969 · 26/03/2026 22:12

Wow, I can just imagine how embarrassed our DDs would be at such a PDA in front of their schoolmates! Just completely inappropriate.

Namechangerage · 26/03/2026 22:09

Werze · 26/03/2026 20:57

Lol I didn’t mean like that, we were hugging and he sort of got me to jump up and held me for a bit to kiss. Definitely wasn’t a dirty dancing scene, no wonder so many people picked up on my comment if that was the confusion 😂

Jump up how? Legs wrapped round??

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 26/03/2026 22:07

Poor kid 🤦‍♀️

Have you forgotten what it’s like to be 11?
