AIBU for kissing DP on school run when DD dislikes it?

DD has had yet another massive go at me after school today. I broke up from her father when she was v young. Didn’t date for ages. Met a school run dad (now DP) in September, knew each other for a while then dated and went from there. Obviously we can’t see loads of each other so school run is one of only opportunities in week. Naturally happy to see each other and embrace/kiss as any normal couple would. DD kicking off saying she doesn’t want to see this.

AIBU? She can’t expect me to remain single for ever surely ?

Embarrassing for her and completely unnecessary, unless the purpose is deliberately to be seen by others. Why can’t you drop your kids off and walk out of school together? Save your snogging for when the kids have gone in.

Everything you do at 11 is embarrassing to her so I'd crack on and say don't look then! 😂

madcatters · 26/03/2026 17:52

She isn’t asking you to remain single she is asking you not to kiss in front of her on the school run.

I feel so sorry for your DD that you can’t just be more respectful

OneToThree · 26/03/2026 17:52

She’s not asking you to stay single forever, she’s asking you not to kiss on the school run cause it’s embarrassing. I’m inclined to agree with her.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 26/03/2026 17:52

Obviously YABU

Your dd dislikes you kissing your boyfriend on the school run. It clearly embarrasses her. So don’t do it.

Such an easy parenting win I’d have thought!

MissingSockDetective · 26/03/2026 17:52

I just don't think it seems necessary. Why would you not wait till the children have gone in?

ProfessionalTeaDrinker · 26/03/2026 17:52

No she can't but equally I don't think it's that difficult to listen to her and avoid 'embracing and kissing' at the school gate either? Think how embarrassing it must be for her! And that's without the added confusion of seeing you with another partner. Can't you just wait til she's gone in?

saltnpepperchips · 26/03/2026 17:51

Im afraid im with your daughter on this, save her the embarrassment and keep the kissing for private it’s not her fault you don’t see each other often. Its hard enough seeing your parent move on without having to see them kiss outside your school!

I'm not sure my DC would meet a new partner after only 6 months.

I think you need to reign it in.

11 sorry
