AIBU for kissing DP on school run when DD dislikes it?

DD has had yet another massive go at me after school today. I broke up from her father when she was v young. Didn’t date for ages. Met a school run dad (now DP) in September, knew each other for a while then dated and went from there. Obviously we can’t see loads of each other so school run is one of only opportunities in week. Naturally happy to see each other and embrace/kiss as any normal couple would. DD kicking off saying she doesn’t want to see this.

AIBU? She can’t expect me to remain single for ever surely ?

Kiss after the kids have gone inside

Sirzy · 26/03/2026 17:58

your adults behaving like teens.

show some respect for your children!

pinkdelight · 26/03/2026 17:58

Nah that's grim for a kid. Keep your snogging for when she's not around. Doesn't matter if it's your mum and dad or your mum and a school dad, no child wants to see any pash activity at the start of the school day, or ever tbh but esp en route to school. I think you're pretty self-centred to not understand this.

Catcatcatcatcat · 26/03/2026 17:58

You really can’t see the difference between you being able to date, and ridiculously performative PDAs on the school run?

PenelopeAsks · 26/03/2026 17:58

If this is real you are being massively unreasonable. Team daughter all the way here and I’m no prude.

amber763 · 26/03/2026 17:58

Absolutely stop it at the school gate FFS. How mortifying for your daughter. You're a grown woman, not 16! Pretty sure you can contain your excitement.

Smeegall · 26/03/2026 17:57

Absolutely no need to kiss on the school run.

TwistedWonder · 26/03/2026 17:57

Don’t be dramatic with the ‘can’t stay single forever’ hyperbole but really PDA’s on the school run - absolutely cringey!
And no I’m not sure ‘any normal couple’ are kissing and cuddling in front of their kids when it’s only a few months in.
Sounds very teenage attention seeking - you not her

RedLightYellowLight · 26/03/2026 17:57

Ok

Oh thank god, much better than grown adults behaving like this 😂

Oh please tell me this is made up.

Beat me to it , 🤣

plims · 26/03/2026 17:57

I’m really surprised that you lack such self awareness that you feel it is appropriate to be doing this on the school run.

She was extra annoyed today because DP lifted me up ,got a bit carried away we haven’t seen each other since last week due to his work. We won’t repeat that but it’s just natural to be excited to see someone surely

Not when you have a child. Poor thing, I do actually think you are letting her down a bit. I suspect everyone else around is pretty unimpressed too. It's just not the place.

Could be a name change?

Hankunamatata · 26/03/2026 17:57

So you did a massive PDA peeformance infront of your kids school while all other kids were there. You know your not 15 right?

Yeah that is unreasonable.

Your poor dd, she probably had the micky taken out of her all day.

BuryAllYourSecretsInMySkin · 26/03/2026 17:56

Do you know what's natural?

Putting your kids feelings above your own in situations like this.

Wait 5 minutes until she's in school ffs.

aBuffetofunreasonableness · 26/03/2026 17:56

Your child won't care about you being excited to see the man you're dating, she will be uncomfortable around the stranger and embarrassed at the kissing, being lifted, and embracing in front of her.

Keep it to yourselves, it's easy.

TiggerAndEeyore · 26/03/2026 17:56

That’s embarrassing for anyone to watch imo. Surely you could have met outwith the school run? It all sounds a bit OTT.

HappyToSmile · 26/03/2026 17:55

Must be a bit awkward for her with everyone watching? She is only 11. Can you not just wait another 5 minutes until the kids have all been dropped off /gone into school?

Hwory · 26/03/2026 17:55

Hmm I think you shouldn't have to stay single till you're kids grow up but I do see how that would be odd/embarrasing for your mum to walk up to another school parent and kiss them.

Have you asked her if she's getting teased about it by other school kids? Hows the relationship between her and your boyfriends kid?

Snorlaxo · 26/03/2026 17:55

Can’t you drop her off then snog your partner?

You don’t have to remain single but it’s a well known age for starting to feel embarrassed or disgusted about the adults in your life having pda or sex.
