AIBU for kissing DP on school run when DD dislikes it?

DD has had yet another massive go at me after school today. I broke up from her father when she was v young. Didn’t date for ages. Met a school run dad (now DP) in September, knew each other for a while then dated and went from there. Obviously we can’t see loads of each other so school run is one of only opportunities in week. Naturally happy to see each other and embrace/kiss as any normal couple would. DD kicking off saying she doesn’t want to see this.

AIBU? She can’t expect me to remain single for ever surely ?

She was extra annoyed today because DP lifted me up ,got a bit carried away we haven’t seen each other since last week due to his work. We won’t repeat that but it’s just natural to be excited to see someone surely

Okay this is way too much

Kids are already annoyed at being dropped off by their parents, there’s no need to add to it

TiggyTomCat · 26/03/2026 18:21

Some things are best not happening at the school gate...this is one of them. Embarrassing your DD and probably his child too never mind fodder for the other gossips at the gate.

I missed the deleted post. Is that what she actually said?

We're apparently jealous because we aren't getting any.

snackattackk · 26/03/2026 18:20

You met in september and now he's your partner, despite only seeing him when you cross paths doing the school run... ok, I'd describe this as casually dating but anyway.

I'd seriously be 🙄 if I saw this as another parent on the school run nevermind if it was my mother doing it. Conduct your relationship in private, if you haven't seen oneanother all week arrange to meet after your children are dropped at school, there is no reason for this level of PDA dropping children off at school. I'm not surprised your daughter is annoyed.

If at the school gates, it just embarrassing for her, no only adults are embracing. I kind of get it!

Okay then.

Tableforjoan · 26/03/2026 18:19

Surely that’s just inappropriate in a playground regardless. No adults need to be all kissing and hugging and picking each other up to kiss in a playground damn.

Grow up. Surely you can wait till the children are in school and your off the grounds even if your still stood on the street. Have some self respect and decorum.

Shag in his car at Tesco carpark the second you see each other but leave the playground and the children out of it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Littlebitpsycho · 26/03/2026 18:19

Oh god cringe 🤮 for God's sake leave each other alone, you're a grown adult - control yourselves on the school run and around your daughter

Bit cringe on the school run, OP.

I think most kids would find that embarrassing at that age.

MyBrightPeer · 26/03/2026 18:18

She’s not asking you to stay single, she’s asking you to not kiss another parent on the drop off. I mean, drop off takes minutes, can’t you just wait until it’s finished to be affectionate. Your boyfriend lifting you up is cringe.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/03/2026 18:18

Neither you, nor your dd, abu.

CharlieEffie · 26/03/2026 18:17

Nothing to do with her wanting you to be single for ever and everything to do with her not wanting to have to see you kissing anyone, not to mention not wanting her classmates to see either...think most 11 year olds would feel the same 😅 just wait till the poor girls gone into class 😆

Not in front of dc OP, its a week apart not a year.

Oh come on! The poor girl must be mortified with you acting like a giddy teen! I'm cringing for you op.

Sorry but that's revolting.

DP? 🙄🤣🤣 you haven't even known him 7 months, let alone been an item. Partner??🤣🤣

HereIfYouNeedMe · 26/03/2026 18:11

So quality time with your boyfriend is spent on a playground? Weird. I guess you built your relationship on the playground too? The second hand embarrassment i would have for you as a parent is real, let alone your mortified DD and her peers. What about his child, what do they think? It’s beyond inappropriate, whose benefit is the performance for? Control yourself!
You should have been extremely apologetic to your DD, shes setting a clear boundary in HER space. Respect it, don’t come online to slag her off.

Oh grow up.

just because we consider our kids feelings & don't act like teenagers in the school
play ground 🙇🏻‍♀️

Fidgety31 · 26/03/2026 18:09

I think you want to do this at the school gates for the benefit of the other parents - to show off that you now have a boyfriend.
Bit pathetic and I can see why your child is embarrassed. You should be too!

You've known the bloke 6 months and you're doing this shit at the school gate embarrassing her and yourselves.

Poor kid, her mates will be laughing about it. Her friends parents will be laughing about it.

Grow up and keep your relationship between yourselves. You're not actually at school yourselves you know.

cramptramp · 26/03/2026 18:08

What a lovely mum you are OP. As long as you’re enjoying yourself, stuff the feelings of your child 🙄🙄
