AIBU for kissing DP on school run when DD dislikes it?

DD has had yet another massive go at me after school today. I broke up from her father when she was v young. Didn’t date for ages. Met a school run dad (now DP) in September, knew each other for a while then dated and went from there. Obviously we can’t see loads of each other so school run is one of only opportunities in week. Naturally happy to see each other and embrace/kiss as any normal couple would. DD kicking off saying she doesn’t want to see this.

AIBU? She can’t expect me to remain single for ever surely ?

She was extra annoyed today because DP lifted me up ,got a bit carried away we haven’t seen each other since last week due to his work. We won’t repeat that but it’s just natural to be excited to see someone surely

As an adult, I would find that cringy and performative, let alone an 11 year old!

You are embarrassing her in front of her friends. It's understandabe that she doesn't like it.

Munchyseeds2 · 26/03/2026 18:42

Most kids that age wouldn't like their actual parents kissing on the school run or anywhere near them

FFSToEverythingSince2020 · 26/03/2026 18:35

Just a thought but perhaps you could meet him at other times?

But @redskyAtNigh then all the other parents, and their former spouses who no doubt hear about it from their embarrassed 11 year olds, won’t know how IN LUUUUUURVE they are. You can’t just have a relationship IN PRIVATE! What’s the point of that??? I mean, it would be like wishing your DH happy anniversary in person instead of on Facebook!

oh yes, sorry, how stupid of me.

But "other times" could maybe be at the school Easter parade? Perhaps OP could sit on his shoulders (to make sure she gets a good view of all the hats, obviously)?

OP: "You're just jealous 'cos I'm all lurved up and you dried-up old hags aren't getting any".

Okay then.

Quite!
Im sure none of us are dried up hags, but at least 99% of us aren't crappy selfish parents.

Illstartexercisingtomorrow · 26/03/2026 18:39

How lacking in self awareness do you have to be to be full on snogging your partner at the school gate?!

That’s not just embarrassing for your DD. It’s embarrassing for you. I’m cringing just thinking of it. You’ve made yourself the subject of school gate gossip. Maybe you enjoy that.

Shoemadlady · 26/03/2026 18:38

It’s great that he’s pleased to see you, but lifting you up in the playground in front of kids, teachers etc is inappropriate and a bit childish

TheFormidableMrsC · 26/03/2026 18:38

Jesus Christ, don’t embarrass your child, it’s so inappropriate at school. Wait until after. What on earth were you thinking?

I’m embarrassed for you.

Stop it.

lizzyBennet08 · 26/03/2026 18:37

There is no way that this is real..

on the off chance it might be Imagine you're. 11 and your mom rocks up the collection and snogs another parent after only being separated from her dad a short period of time. She is absolutely having the mickey taken out of her in school. It's incredibly selfish and frankly mean Behaviour at the school gate.

liveforsummer · 26/03/2026 18:37

Sorry this is super embarrassing for an 11 yo. Kiss him another time ffs.

Scully01 · 26/03/2026 18:36

Winching at the school gates is a bit much to be fair, I'd reign it in I think

Teainapinkcup · 26/03/2026 18:35

MissingSockDetective · 26/03/2026 17:52

I just don't think it seems necessary. Why would you not wait till the children have gone in?

I know, her poor DD ...

AgnesX · 26/03/2026 18:35

Six months is hardly forever. Kissing, never mind anything else, at the school gate is quite naff really.

Give your daughter a bit of peace.

Don't do this in front of her school friends. Just don't.

Im just taking bets with myself as to how long it will be before the thread is deleted because its utter bunkum.

Or if it’s true bets on how long till the ops having a baby and moving this chap in.

50/50 odds.

Normal couples DO NOT kiss and embrace each other at their children’s school.

Not to mention, sleep in separate bedrooms? 🤔

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 26/03/2026 18:33

Yabu.

my DC would be mortified if I kissed DH / their dad on the school run, never mind a new boyfriend! Everything I say, do or think embarrasses DD10!

cadburyegg · 26/03/2026 18:33

This cannot be real

I’m a single mum and can’t imagine kissing a new bf in front of my kids

YABVVU

Stop with the PDA whilst your 11 is present and embarrassed outside her school. Is it that difficult to wait 15 minutes and snog the boyfriend when DC has gone into school. No its not.

CautiousLurker2 · 26/03/2026 18:32

OneToThree · 26/03/2026 17:52

She’s not asking you to stay single forever, she’s asking you not to kiss on the school run cause it’s embarrassing. I’m inclined to agree with her.

Agree. My DC would have been embarrassed if I kissed their dad/my DH at the school gate. There’s a time and a place and that isn’t it…

youalright · 26/03/2026 18:31

Are we still waiting in the playground to pick 11 year olds? Surely they either walk home or walk to the car themselves

Fgs! You're not teenagers!

Most 11 yr olds would be embarrassed by their happily married parents kissing at the school gate, let alone mum and boyfriend, who presumably is the parent of another pupil. Just don't do it. Keep your private life private
