AIBU for kissing DP on school run when DD dislikes it?

DD has had yet another massive go at me after school today. I broke up from her father when she was v young. Didn’t date for ages. Met a school run dad (now DP) in September, knew each other for a while then dated and went from there. Obviously we can’t see loads of each other so school run is one of only opportunities in week. Naturally happy to see each other and embrace/kiss as any normal couple would. DD kicking off saying she doesn’t want to see this.

AIBU? She can’t expect me to remain single for ever surely ?

You do know everybody is talking about you, don’t you?

Maybe that's what she was after.

ZenNudist · 26/03/2026 19:02

Why would you do this? You've been dating 6 months, it's too early to be introducing him to your dd. PDA at school gate is embarrassing even I'm established relationships. Your DD is spot on.

ShmurpleRain · 26/03/2026 19:02

He’s not your “partner” he’s a man you’ve been dating for 6 months. This is a new relationship.

YABU to act like cringey teenagers on a school run. It’s bad enough seeing teens do PDA around school never mind the parents.

I think that's all part of the fun....

Your poor child. She will be getting the absolute piss ripped out of her for your embarrassing behaviour. Imagine going through this display every morning.

Happyjoe · 26/03/2026 18:58

I think you've forgotten how it feels to be 11 and the 11 year old attitude to grown ups kissing, or even dating in general. Give her some slack, her mum is having smooches in front of her school friends and peers!

Mayflowerz · 26/03/2026 18:57

Grow up!

Poor kid. Great way to ruin your relationship with her.

Guarantee you are the talk of the other parents with your kisses and lifting up in air carry ons.

She was extra annoyed today because DP lifted me up ,got a bit carried away we haven’t seen each other since last week due to his work. We won’t repeat that but it’s just natural to be excited to see someone surely

Boyfriend, girlfriend or a married couple that’s inappropriate for the school run. It’s not about her wanting you to be single it’s because it embarrassing for her

thanks2 · 26/03/2026 18:55

Him lifting you in the air at school is so cringe.
Team daughter - its likely she's getting teased at school that her mum and new partner are so over the top at the school gate with affection.
The school gate is not the place for you to get affectionate.

Sorry but you need to consider Dds feelings here, at her age it is embarrassing for her so respect that and maybe rein it in a bit around her.

krustykittens · 26/03/2026 18:53

You and your DP of all of six months need to calm down when you are in the school playground, FFS. And no, lifting someone into the air like the world cup trophy because you haven't seen each other for a whole week (was he not dropping his child off to school in that time?), is not normal. Certainly not in a. School. Playground. I can't emphasize that enough. It's embarrassing for your daughter, who is probably being teased, and if Romeo decides to dump you in a couple of months, it will be embarrassing for you, when everyone notices his booming mating call falls silent and he doesn't want to make eye contact with you anymore. I hope this is the real thing for you but just keep your private life private - it's not just your heart you would be guarding.

Namechangerage · 26/03/2026 18:51

Ps if you met the bloke in SEPTEMBER you are being VvVVV unreasonable to already be thinking of him as your “DP”.

He is someone you are seeing - and you should be doing it more discreetly on the bloomin school run! Your poor DD. Mum prioritising getting her snogs rather than just getting her to school…

Not surprised she was annoyed.

Namechangerage · 26/03/2026 18:49

Snorlaxo · 26/03/2026 17:55

Can’t you drop her off then snog your partner?

You don’t have to remain single but it’s a well known age for starting to feel embarrassed or disgusted about the adults in your life having pda or sex.

This FFS.

KittyWilkinson · 26/03/2026 18:49

Just get a room.
Out of sight and earshot of your poor DD.

TTCbabynumber22025 · 26/03/2026 18:47

I think YABU. You’ve only known each other 6 months so it’s moved very fast. It must be a lot for your DD. You don’t have to be single forever, that’s one extreme, but I think what you’re describing is the other extreme. I think you should be able to contain yourself on the school run, at least until she’s gone inside and you’re off school premises? It must be a bit cringey for the other parents too

Pricelessadvice · 26/03/2026 18:47

You sound like an insufferable pair of teenagers.
Cant you just greet each other without the dramatics?

Your poor child! Who wants to see mum smooching a bloke?!

MCF86 · 26/03/2026 18:47

I wouldn't have wanted to see my own parents kiss at that age, even less so see one of them kiss someone else.

Tbh, nobody else on the school run wants to see it either.

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 26/03/2026 18:47

I am probably missing the point but why are you still doing the school run when she's 11? Surely she's old enough to get herself to school?

DaisyDooley · 26/03/2026 18:47

Christ. I’m cringing on her behalf.
As far as the other kids are concerned DDs mum (you) is snogging XXX’s dad atbthe school gates.
‘Excited to see each other’?? Save it for when you are alone.
And he’s NOT your ‘DP’.
He’s your boyfriend ffs.
You are being unbelievably unreasonable.

Thisismynewname23 · 26/03/2026 18:46

I remember my friends seeing my mum out with her new boyfriend when I was in year 7 and seeing them kissing I was teased relentlessly for it she will be mortified I wouldn’t do this at all, the poor girl

shhblackbag · 26/03/2026 18:45

You're very unreasonable. No one wants to see you all loved up on the school run, least of all your child.

CDTC · 26/03/2026 18:43

You do this in school grounds? Your DD has met him and been aware of your relationship before 6 months? Wow

🤢🤮

Omg OP I’m embarrassed just reading this. Please stop, and have some respect for your DD’s feelings
