AIBU for kissing DP on school run when DD dislikes it?

DD has had yet another massive go at me after school today. I broke up from her father when she was v young. Didn’t date for ages. Met a school run dad (now DP) in September, knew each other for a while then dated and went from there. Obviously we can’t see loads of each other so school run is one of only opportunities in week. Naturally happy to see each other and embrace/kiss as any normal couple would. DD kicking off saying she doesn’t want to see this.

AIBU? She can’t expect me to remain single for ever surely ?

You're ridiculous, most kids that age don't want to see mum and dad kissing ,anywhere, let alone at the school gates. Seeing a parent with their new bf would be extra embarrassing

She was extra annoyed today because DP lifted me up ,got a bit carried away we haven’t seen each other since last week due to his work. We won’t repeat that but it’s just natural to be excited to see someone surely

Surely this is a piss take? How utterly grim to get carried away in front of your primary aged child who's already told you it makes her uncomfortable. Please grow up and act like a mother first. You only have to wait two minutes until she's gone into class FFS.

RedWineCupcakes · 26/03/2026 19:20

I would cringe myself inside out if couples were snogging and behaving like they are in a budget romcom on the school run.

Aged 53 and getting plenty.

ChateauProvence · 26/03/2026 19:20

This can’t be real if it is grow the fuck up and stop embarrassing your poor kid. No one would think this is reasonable or acceptable to do at this school gates. All the other parents must be massively rolling their eyes and cringing at you

Ocelotfeet27 · 26/03/2026 19:19

YABU. No one needs or wants to see PDAs. Especially an 11 y.o. in front of their friends. Grow up! It's fine to miss DP and be excited but PDAs not ok.

Mochudubh · 26/03/2026 19:19

@TheBabyFatmoss

Thanks, all I could remember was the lurved-up couple holding hands and "snuggling" while rolling their eyes at a harassed mother trying to give her kids a nice day out.

You're having PDAs with your BF of a whopping 6 months in front of a bunch of preteens at a school.

She shouldn't even have met your BF after 6 months, much less you putting on a display in front of her and her schoolmates. You've rushed things and she's unhappy about it. Stop putting dick over your kid.

Applecup · 26/03/2026 19:16

Jesus, your poor kid. So embarrassing for her. Keep the displays of affection for when you are alone.

TheBabyFatmoss · 26/03/2026 19:16

@Mochudubh not sure but the loves young dream vibe is very similar 😂

Do you like going to National Trust places together?

I knew this thread reminded of something. I went back to look at that thread later and couldn't find it. Did it get deleted because the OP didn't like the resposes?

She’s not asking you to stay single forever, she’s asking you not to kiss on the school run cause it’s embarrassing. I’m inclined to agree with her.

This. Honestly op don’t you remember what it’s like being a kid? My kids go ‘urgh’ when I kiss their dad I wouldn’t dream of doing it on the school run!

Do you know what's natural?

Putting your kids feelings above your own in situations like this.

Wait 5 minutes until she's in school ffs.

This!! I can’t believe you actually need telling not to act like a pair of 14 year olds while in the company of your children. Give me strength.

I'm not sure it is particularly normal for parents to embrace/kiss in the playground nobody does that where I am? We aren't teenagers

MassiveOvaryaction · 26/03/2026 19:09

Tongues and handsy - YABVU
Peck on the cheek, quick hug? YANBU

You need to both get there before the kids get out so you can get your pashing out of the way before your dd can see. If she doesn't want you doing it in front of her that's fair enough imo.

We're apparently jealous because we aren't getting any.

😂 😂

Malinia · 26/03/2026 19:08

I'm dying of cringe just reading this, if I was at your school I would be dying laughing watching you with your teenage PDAs. Your poor daughter!! Just stop it and get a room.

choccytime · 26/03/2026 19:07

How embarrassing , poor child please stop it

I missed the deleted post. Is that what she actually said?

Not in so many words but she implied posters who thought she was BU must not be sexually active themselves.

You are an adult, and I am sure you are capable of reining in your excitement at the school gates, @Werze.

Your dd isn’t saying she wants you to be single forever - she just wants you to stop the PDAs at the school gate.

If you won’t stop, you are basically telling your dd that her feelings don’t matter, and that is not going to make her any more positive about your new relationship - quite the opposite, in fact. If you really want her to never accept your new relationship, you are going the right way about it.

Fleurdalys · 26/03/2026 19:04

Just Urrgh
she’s 11
just don’t
