AIBU for kissing DP on school run when DD dislikes it?

DD has had yet another massive go at me after school today. I broke up from her father when she was v young. Didn’t date for ages. Met a school run dad (now DP) in September, knew each other for a while then dated and went from there. Obviously we can’t see loads of each other so school run is one of only opportunities in week. Naturally happy to see each other and embrace/kiss as any normal couple would. DD kicking off saying she doesn’t want to see this.

AIBU? She can’t expect me to remain single for ever surely ?

Why is your partner not taking your daughters embarrassment into consideration? Red flag for me

gentileprof7 · 26/03/2026 19:55

So you've just started dating this man and you are kissing him while dropping dd off at school.
Of course dd will be embarrassed! It's mortifying. At first I thought you meant you were expecting dd to kiss her parent.

PepsiBook · 26/03/2026 19:54

Yep, that's not on.
She's not telling you not to date, she asking you not to embarrass her!

She was extra annoyed today because DP lifted me up ,got a bit carried away we haven’t seen each other since last week due to his work. We won’t repeat that but it’s just natural to be excited to see someone surely

You're joking right? Christ I'd have died if my actual parents had done this at school, nothing to do with if it's her Dad or not. Jesus.

Of course it's fine to act like that at the playground, you're both still in school arent you?

gross for adults.

nocoolnamesleft · 26/03/2026 19:51

Why's your daughter even met him that early? Let alone being forced to watch PDAs in front of her friends?

No, you need to pack it in while your DC are there. You’re rubbing her face in it.

JoWilkinsonsno1fan · 26/03/2026 19:48

This cannot be real - no one can lack that much self awareness surely!!

You’re poor DD!! of course shes embarrassed, I would be too!

Your daughter sounds more mature than you. You're PDA descriptions are making me cringe and I don't even know you. Have some respect and decency for goodness sake. You sound like a pair of lovesick teenagers which is pathetic to witness in grown adults. Why have you so little regard for your daughter's feelings? Stop making a spectacle of yourselves in front of everyone at the school gates.

nixon1976 · 26/03/2026 19:40

I think 6 months is way way too early for your 11 year old to even have met him

Lemonyyy · 26/03/2026 19:40

Jesus op I’d be mortified. Your poor daughter and presumably dp’s kid/s too. Get a grip, walk out of school and have a little kiss there. You’re not in a movie, people aren’t going “awww look they’re so in love” they’re embarrassed for you.

bellhawk · 26/03/2026 19:40

I know new relationships are exciting but it seems reasonable to wait 2 minutes for your daughter to go into the school gates, before snogging your partner. As you know sometimes parents have to do things that feel inconvenient to make their child feel comfortable.

I'm cringing for you. Poor child. How embarrassing.

This.

Laughingmole · 26/03/2026 19:38

The other parents also don’t want to see this.
And the talk of all the kids at school is 100% “I saw Sophie’s mum kissing Josh’s dad on the playground.”
”Sophie’s mum and Josh’s dad sitting in a tree. K I S S I N G”

Solost92 · 26/03/2026 18:08

You've known the bloke 6 months and you're doing this shit at the school gate embarrassing her and yourselves.

Poor kid, her mates will be laughing about it. Her friends parents will be laughing about it.

Grow up and keep your relationship between yourselves. You're not actually at school yourselves you know.

Is this a wind up? I am with your child on this one. She cant expect you to remain single no, but equally you need to rein your behaviour in at the school gate by what youre saying. I can honestly say ive never seen any couple 'embrace' a kiss/affection at the school gates in front of children.

martinagiraffe · 26/03/2026 19:33

In all the years I've spent dropping the kids off at school I've never seen anyone snogging at the school gates.

I'm cringing for your poor DD

AutumnLeeves · 26/03/2026 19:30

How cringe for your daughter and the other parents and teachers who have to see it when they let the kids in and wave them off in the afternoon.

DivorcedButHappyNow · 26/03/2026 19:30

Put your child first.

Omg! Are you serious?! You can't see anything wrong with that? I am cringing and am neither there nor am I 11 years old...get a grip

Fends · 26/03/2026 19:30

Just cringed myself inside out as the kids would say. Embarrassing

Gloriia · 26/03/2026 19:28

'You and your DP of all of six months need to calm down when you are in the school playground, FFS. And no, lifting someone into the air like the world cup trophy because you haven't seen each other for a whole week (was he not dropping his child off to school in that time?), is not normal.'

This with bells on.

Ah stop.
You cant be this oblivious surely

MerryStork · 26/03/2026 19:23

Don’t know why my post was deleted! Only said it was a wind up, obviously it is! Nobody would do this on the school run surely!

PersephonePomegranate · 26/03/2026 19:21

You're encroaching on her territory here, it's completely inappropriate.

Would you expect people who worked together and were in a relationship to behave like this in their place of work?
