There's this thing called copy and paste....

But I am making a deliberate point with these posts, which is that a relentless whump whump whump going on and on is interrupting and dominating. It's very easy to say "just ignore it" without appreciating how intrusive it is.

My posts are attempting to convey that reality of intrusiveness and how it dominates whatever else you might be trying to do.

FWIW my house backs on or overlooks about 14 gardens. In the summer there are always kids playing, adult parties and bbqs, sometimes full on soundsystems. And I'm ok with that, live and let live. Balls being kicked or hit relentlessly against your wall is a different proposition.

You’ve still got too much time on your hands!

I live in the row of terraced cottages in a cul-de-sac. There's a big grassy area in front of the houses, and the kids all come out in summer, with footballs and rugby balls (boys and girls, these days), and some little girls bring out a table and chairs and some have some kind of teddy-bears picnic, and I think that's lovely. Even when a boy broke my bedroom window with a ball a while back, but it all got sorted out amicably enough. It's great to see kids out in the open air, having fun.

Agreed and accidents happen, as long as it’s sorted, which it was.

SugarPuffSandwiches · 27/03/2026 10:31

Eh? It's not until the weekend that they go forward? In the UK anyway. So I'm guessing you're somewhere else 😁

Huh? OP didn't say they are screaming their heads off.

They're kicking a ball against a fence. Annoying perhaps, but it's hard to know what the actual noise is like from the post.

Kids kicking a ball around their own garden is normal and doesn't in itself mean parents are doing a bad job, as OP is implying.

Edited

No, but pps have touched on the screaming and I was curious to know if that pp’s attitude was as entitled on that front.

rockinrobins · 27/03/2026 10:13

@OooPourUsACupLove That did make me laugh 😂

I get it, but you're not the OP and you haven't heard it, how long it's going on for or how loud it is. I used to get kids kicking a ball against the wall of my house. Yes, it can be very annoying. I understand.

But at the same time, kids need to be able to kick a ball, and they are in their own garden. It's good that they are outside.

Noise issues need a bit of give and take on both sides and accusing the parents of not parenting well is only going to rub people up the wrong way. The bit that gets me is that OP says they should be taken to the park. Perhaps the parents are busy sometimes and the kids entertain themselves. They don't need to be taken to the park by an adult every time they need fresh air. They have a garden to play in.

Of course it's not OK to constantly kick a ball against the neighbour's fence but if OP has a problem then she needs to talk to the parents, and not accuse them of being bad parents just because kids are playing in the garden.

sittingonabeach · 27/03/2026 10:12

Very rubbish parenting if you think DC kicking football against your neighbours fence is okay. If you don’t have a big enough garden so they don’t do that, why don’t you move to somewhere with no neighbours and an acre or more of garden.

I assume you wouldn’t accept a neighbour continually hitting your fence so why is it okay for your DC to do it?

And there is a happy medium between children screaming, kicking footballs against fences and staying indoors all day on screens.

What is not parenting about children playing in the garden with a ball?
It is much better for them than sitting on the sofa with a phone.
How do you see it as unacceptable?

Do you never mow the lawn? Use the strimmer? Have a barbecue?

If my DC was banging a ball against a fence or a neighbour’s wall/a wall adjacent to the neighbours then I’d have some VERY stern words and it would stop the very second I became aware of it. I’d then lecture my DC re: having respect for others around you! It’s basic decency. Treat others how you would expect to be treated yourself for goodness sake.

I despair.

Allowed to play, yes. But do you think it's fine and dandy for kids to scream their heads off in the garden for no reason?

And it's breathtakingly entitled to suggest those who mind should 'move to the middle of nowhere'. I'd say it's the parents who can't be arsed parenting who need to do that.

If the noise is bothering you or is too early then talk to their parents, but you're unlikely to get much sympathy complaining about children's noise on mumsnet.

Children are allowed to play in their gardens.

I guess it was her suggestion that the kids be taken to the park. She doesn’t like kids playing in their garden.

No. The people with children who love to scream and screech and bang bang bang their footballs against the garden fence (or garage door!) can move into the middle of nowhere in a detached house. THEY are the ones causing a nuisance, and causing people stress! Why should childrens need to be screaming, and constantly kicking footballs against the fence, always trump the desire of people who want peace and quiet - and to not being driven mad by the noise?

Everyone has a right to quiet enjoyment in their own home and garden!!!

I have found quite an adequate solution to arsehole neighbours of which I have both sides....
A Bluetooth speaker.. Not loud as obviously I don't want to be the arsehole ndn but just blocks out the incessant barking /dc screaming . Kept at the back door and easily switched on. Every time.
Honestly I have battled with misaphonia for decades.
It's been life changing.

I get you, I have misophonia too, summer kills me! The boys next door kick balls constantly and the park is literally at the bottom of the garden, and they are 16 and 9. Old enough to bugger off!

It's not acceptable for the ball to keep bouncing against a garden fence that is shared with other homes...

HTH.
